Wanted to like this more than I did. It's a lovely format, with a sturdy library-bound cover, thick matte pages, and great printed colors. But the heart of it is about making and displaying collections, and collections = clutter. The pictures made me feel a little claustrophobic. I thought they were great ideas for store displays (which is the author's background), but not for living with every day. IMHO, artwork needs breathing space in a home, and should only be hung salon-style in a gallery ...more

I enjoyed Creative Walls. {Mostly.} I do not know why I tortured myself reading this book because we have very little wall space in our home. I would love to incorporate some of the creative ideas so beautifully photographed in this book on our {few} walls. One of my favorite chapters in the book is Children's and Students' Spaces: It was loaded with truly creative and affordable ideas. Shanley will be living in an apartment next year at college, and I think she will find inspiration in this ...more

Maybe because I was expecting more of a how-to or DIY type of book, that would show me how to build interesting shelving or displays, but I was a tad disappointed in this book overall. It was good for browsing through, garnering some ideas, but actual tips or sources or even how to make some of the cooler ideas would have been nice. Not everyone can afford to drop a bunch of cash on a collection of high demand vintage signs or art, or have a collection of them all ready to redecorate. Again, I ...more

I lament all the empty wall space in America while I fill mine up with artwork, old family photographs and other collections. I don't want a bigger house just more walls. So when I saw the title of this book, I got excited that here were people like me! But this book of photographs was ruined by the style and font used for the author's descriptions. The printing, which varied in size within a paragraph and often used a style imitating wooden block printing with smears and block edges, was ...more

Love the cover, but definitely not a book I would buy because there isn't enough eye candy. I didn't read much from the book, which I feel a little guilty about, but I checked this book out for the pictures and not the words. It had a few ideas I liked and did give me some inspiration for the blank walls I have all over my house!

I enjoy Geraldine James' books very much. I love the lay out, the playful design, the extra thick pages, and all the wonderful eye candy. This book is chock-full of terrific ideas and inspiration. After you read this, you'll never look at your walls in the same way again.

I wanted to like this book. It's sturdy and seemed welldone, however all it showed me was to take your ENTIRE collections of stuff and put it out = clutter.

It did have some good tips however the angles that the example pictures were taken at were very odd and sometimes confusing.

Another of my favorite design tomes. James is an arist and the photos are beautiful. If you want creative, out-of-the-box design inspiration, you'll enjoy this. It's one I re-read often.
