An autobiographical play by Ruth Gordon about her years as a teenager yearning to be on the stage against her father's wishes and the obstacles she must overcome to win his favors. Very adorable and winning. It's a wonderful document, too, how young people talked and felt at the beginning of the first decade of the 20th century, and in essence, showing how people are not that different today. The phone plays a wonderful role in the story and it is indicative of how progress and youth go hand in ...more

As well as writing plays, film scripts, and books, Ruth Gordon was an actress of stage and screen. She is perhaps best known for her return to acting later in her career with memorable roles in films such as Rosemary's Baby (1968) and Harold and Maude (1971). She was married to Garson Kanin, with whom she wrote several screenplays.
