This was a reasonably good read, true to the era and quintessentially the 1930-40's as we've seen it depicted in many an old black and white Hollywood movie. Strangely, the book reads in the same manner and was a little disjointed, the characters were somewhat stilted, with the stylized (but written) over-acting so typical of that era in film.
The heroes and villains, gamblers, thugs and bullies and police shoot out were again in character reminiscent of 30-40's movie making and the story line r...more

Loved it! What a timely book, exploring the first, Great Depression, as we live out the second.
Shelly Schwartz creates a rich tapestry of characters. Whether good or bad, they are richly developed
and draw you in to the interesting plot. Grace, the main character, keeps us guessing throughout.
I will definitely read more by this author.

Not sure if I'm the only one, but when I read a good book, I can picture it as a movie while I read. When I read Semiprecious Wife, I can say I 'saw' the book. I would even go as far to say if it did become a movie, I have half the soundtrack picked out.
