Melissa This one is my favorite of the series. If you love a feminist heroine, an alpha male hero and great banter, I would recommend reading it.

Why are the best books the hardest to review? I'm not sure I can come up with enough superlatives for this one, the second book in Lisa Kleypas's magical Wallflowers series. I think she hit the ball out of the park with this humorous, emotional, romantic read!

I had my doubts coming into this, after reading Secrets of a Summer Night. In that book Marcus, Lord Westcliff (most eligible bachelor in England), was such an uptight, humorless stick-in-the-mud--how was I going to fall for him in his own

WOW! I loooved this second installment in Kleypas’s extraordinary Wallflowers series about four very different young ladies in Victorian era England society whose deep bond of friendship sustains them through the trials and tribulations of life, family, relationships, and love.

Wealthy American heiress Lillian Bowman is fiercely independent, strong-willed, feisty, daring, obstinate, brash, honest, outspoken, free-spirited, opinionated...pretty much everything lackin

Wow! Another fun installment of The Wallflowers series.

I love the way Lisa Kleypas developes her characters. Subtly, without pages and pages of narrative descriptives. We learn about them by seeing them in action, or through the eyes of others.

It was such a joy to watch Marcus, Lord Westcliff, put aside the bitterness of his childhood, the will of his mother and the demands of his title and just allow himself to experience the emotions which, despite his best efforts, were awakened by Lillian Bo

This is one of the funniest historical romances I have read and I laughed out loud so many times. The Wallflower series is one of the most wonderful regency series out there! But I really recommend that you read this series in order. The first time, I read Devil in Winter before this one, and that was clearly a mistake since I knew pretty much the whole twist.

Lillian is a wonderful strong, brazen, independent, American heroine and I really liked the hate-love r

This was a great second entry into the Wallflower series. I really enjoyed this story and I firmly believe that Lillian and Westcliff are soulmates. They are both strong, vital people who are not afraid to say what they think and do what they want to do. Westcliff is a very arrogant man and very opinionated. He came off as being a little bit snobby in some ways. Not in the sense that he was too good to associate with self-made men of working class origins. He was very forward-thinking in that ma ...more

After reading Lisa Kleypas’ previous books Again The Magic and Secrets of a Summer Night, I just had to read the second book in the Wallflower series called “It Happened One Autumn” which stars Lillian Bowman and Marcus, Lord Westcliff! “It Happened One Autumn” is so full of drama, romance one awesome hero and heroine team that any romance fan will eat this book up!

I am glad to say that this book is another 5 stars from Kleypas' Wallflower series; and another book into my faves shelf.

I loved this book. It was amazing from the begining to the end. I must say that while in the first book I got infratuated with the story, in this one I did with the characters, Lillian and Marcus were perfect for each other. I really liked Lillian, I guess I must really like it when the woman is strong and doesn't back down because that was what I apreciated more from her pers

"I can't get it out," she said.

"Just pull at it."

"It hurts. It's throbbing."

"Pull harder."

"I can't! It's truly stuck. I need something to make it slippery. Do you have some sort of lubricant nearby?"

"Not anything?"

"Much as it may surprise you, we've never needed lubricant in the library before now."

And that, yes that, is why I continue to read books like this.

Another 5 star story from Kleypas' Wallflower series!

The quintessential domineering, opinionated and infuriating alpha up against a woman who is the farthest thing from a shrinking violet! These two butt heads from the first book and continue on in book 2 but when they get together they just just melt off the pages. The romance makes your eyes all watery and you're sighing so, so slowly with a choked voice: Ohhhh myyyyy gawwwwwwd **sigh, sigh sigh** (!!)

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Lilly & Marcus together.
I loved their immediate dislike of one other when they first met, and then their raging passion once they realized what it was they were really feeling.

Their characters are so alike. They're both strong-willed, confident, stubborn, intelligent, and extremely protective of the people they love. Once they spent some time together, it didm't take long for them to realize that there was an att

Fell in love with both Marcus and Lillian's character.

Marcus Lord Westcliffe, raised under very strict ways. He grew up to be strong willed, very proper, always under control and raised with the idea of having to marry another young proper English lady part of the English peerage. But under all that façade of a brooding prim and proper lord, there is a romantic and passionate man with some "rakish ways" haha, also a c
The more you hate, the more you love.(Well, that absolutely didn't happen in my case, because I absolutely loved, loved, loved this book)

Lilian Bowman hates the the arrogant clod pole which is Marcus Marsden, or Lord Westcliff. We could also be assured that Westcliff feels the same way. So they definitely have a mutual understanding.

But mutual understanding is better than nothing right?

If you've read Again The Magic before this one, you would see that Westcliff isn't actually a complete pig but
I have no time to write in-depth reviews as I am swimming in homework. I will say that this second installment involving Lillian and Marcus was fantastic. To me there wasn't as much humor here as there was in the first book but Lillian and Daisy's quips still got me to laugh a few times. My only complaint is that it seemed like Marcus became infatuated with Lillian rather quickly. You had the notion that he felt some kind of attraction to her from events in the previous book but I though the lus ...more

Looking back, I think this was my favorite book of the WALLFLOWERS series. I loved the fact that Lillian Bowman was such an articulate, cynical and self-confident young female, by far the most rebellious and outspoken of the four Wallflowers. I kept picturing her as a young Katherine Hepburn, around the time of BRINGING UP BABY!

At the same time, I loved how Marcus, Lord Westcliff (who'd been bouncing around Lisa Kleypas novels at least since LADY SOPHIA'S LOVER) was so ideally suited to deal wit

Continuing with lighter theme Wallflowers series, LK focuses on Lillian Bowman, the funny, smart and very stubborn American heiress on her journey to find herself a husband and Marcus, Lord Westcliff straightlaced, no nonsense earl. Both hit it off like gasoline and fire in Secrets of a Summer Night and continue their banter and arguing in It Happened One Autumn.

Lillian finds it a chore to find herself a husband and feels stuck between a rock and hard place as she and her sister try to fit in

"4.5 stars" It Happened One Autumn was another great book in the Wallflowers series. As with the first book of the series though, it got off to a somewhat slow start for me. The first half or so of the book is primarily character driven relying heavily on internal conflicts. I'm not really a big fan of love/hate relationships or of the hero and heroine holding each other at arms length for an extended period of time. It seemed like the early part of the book was pretty mu

★★★★★ (This is a review of the audiobook.) I know I gush over Rosalyn Landor every time I listen and review one of her narrations. If you haven’t heard her read before, Lisa Klaypas’ enchanting Wallflowers books are the series with which to start. Ms. Landor transforms her voice to fit the characters, doing a wonderful American accent for Lillian Bowman; managing to sound brash and “freethinking” – but innocent when the time is right. Then there is her evil, snide inflection for Countess Westcli ...more

*** 4.5 STARS!! ***

Having read this series a little out of order, I knew going into this what St. Vincent would ultimately do to Lillian and Marcus. It was still a shock. And Marcus' mother? CRAZY. I loved this, it was in typical HR, LK style: Well written, engaging, hard to put down, a delicious male lead, a complicated villain, a seductive and beautiful love story...and a feeling of never wanting to leave the pages of the book.

Marcus was a brooding and practical man, finding it quite difficult

Can Lisa Kleypas do no wrong???

I have been hanging to read this book!! After having to wait an excruciatingly long time for it to arrive in the mail I literally devoured it within a day once it arrived.

I loved both characters so much! I loved Lillian's more modern way of thinking and acting. I loved that she wasn't so conformed in the way of doing things and that she wasn't afraid to speak her mind.

I LOVED THIS BOOK! Lord Westcliff is sooo yummy!

What a great read this was! Lillian is my favorite wallflower so far! I love her personality and her witty humor and sharp tongue. She doesn't beat around the bush and says it like it is. My kind of girl! I knew in the last book she would be paired with Lord Westcliff and I couldn't wait to see how that would unfold.

A couple of lines that I enjoyed were-

"Sorry, mis," the maid murmured, assuming that she had pinned a lock of hair too tightly.
10 stars! This is my very favorite historical romance. It was also my "first", so I thought it might be the mystique that goes with that cherry-popping status. No-ho-ho. Just re-read it and this book was more delightful to me the second time around. It was lovely, satisfying on several fronts and well-rounded. I am considered what is called a "wussperv" in fanfiction circles because I'm not fond of angst but love me some spice. This book fits that bill in a big way. The requisite stuff that keep ...more

I'm a fan of all things paranormal; give me a monster of some sort and I'm a happy girl. But sometimes I want the fantasy of a trip back in time, you know, to a place where people use words like 'pantaloons' and 'haberdashery'. Lisa Kleypas always delivers that sense of escape for me, and her Wallflower Series is a particular favorite.

The series is centered around a group of very different young women who have one thing in common: they've all failed to land a husband. They're wallflowers, thr
