When it comes to romantic suspense, Marie Force delivers exciting, believable stories, and Fatal Flaw, the fourth book in the Fatal series is no exception.

Senator Nick Cappuano and D.C. Police Lieutenant Samantha Holland are home from their two week, romantic honeymoon on Bora Bora. Fatal Flaw is a great addition to the series, and while I was happy to see so many things finally start to come together, what I was most impressed by was the way Ms. Force handled the issue of Terry O’Connor’s alcoholism. Openly, no sugar coating, Terry laid it all out and accepted responsibility for his actions. This was handled with honesty and compassion and without exploiting alcoholism or making it all about the drama.

“I told you—we’ll keep trying until we get it right. However long it takes. I’m not going anywhere, Jeannie. No matter what.”

Another thing that I was so pleased to see was how Jeannie McBride was beginning to heal from her kidnapping and rape, with the help of her boyfriend, Michael. I adore him for his dedication and devotion to Jeannie, and I adore her for not giving up.

Okay, I need to get this off my chest... Something that really bugged me was Sam's repeated derogatory thoughts about Stahl's weight, not just in this book, but throughout the entire series. I mean, seriously... every time the man was on the page, Sam noted his "jiggling" or "wiggling" jowls, his sweating, his turning purple... Sure, the guy is repulsive, but he'd be repulsive even if he didn't have an ounce of fat on him, and so with each passing scene it started to feel more and more as though Sam's revulsion towards him was as much about his weight as it was about him being an ass-wipe. And, I'll be honest here, because I am a woman who carries some extra weight and have been known to jiggle from time to time myself - (though if you repeat that, I'll deny I said it) - it started to become a bit much. Just sayin'....

This final quote, a quick exchange between Sam and Nick, pretty much sums up their life:

“Holy shit.” His voice was unsteady, and she could feel a slight tremor in his muscles. “Holy freaking shit.”

“Look at it this way—never a dull moment.”

That drew a reluctant chuckle from her husband. “Dull is boring and overrated.”

“I’d love the opportunity to find out.”

Tipping her chin up to receive his kiss, he said, “Not gonna happen in this lifetime, babe.”

The bottom line - While this book isn't without flaws, once again Marie Force has written a thrilling, romantic, passionate, heartwarming, story that kept me guessing as to who the bad guy was and what the motives were. I enjoyed seeing how tight Sam and Nick's relationship has become... the honesty, the love, devotion... great stuff, that.

Sam and Nick return from their honeymoon, to be faced with a double murder and threatening letters to both their safety. This really shows the other facet to their characters in how they deal with the issues ahead of them and their committed love for one another. Which by the way is sublime. Nick Cappuano can "park his shoes" under my bed anyday!

I also thoroughly enjoyed the secondary stories, involving the other characters. It was like coming home, to people you love. So good.

ความสัมพันธ์ของแซมกะนิค หวานชื่นน่ารัก ปมในใจของแซมน้อยลง นิคยังเป็นหนุ่มในฝันเหมือนเดิม การที่ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างพระเอกนางเอกลงตัว รักหวานไม่ใช่เรื่องเลวร้ายนะคะ เจดี ร็อบบ์พิสูจน์มาแล้วว่า สามารถเขียนให้ได้น่าติดตามได้ ยังคงทำให้คนอ่านถอนหายใจเป็นพัก ๆ ได้ แต่เล่มนี้อ่านแล้วรู้สึกหยุดนิ่งค่ะ ไม่คล้อยตาม รู้สึกเป็นกิจวัตรประจำวันมากเกินไป ไม่รู้สึกว่า มีอะไรพิเศษ (อ่านแล้วไม่เหมือนคู่แต่งงานที่เพิ่งกลับมาจากฮันนีมูนเอาเสียเลย เหมือนคนที่แต่งงานกันมาแล้วหลายสิบปี)

โดยรวมผิดหวัง แต่ขอบอกนะคะว่า เรื่องนี้ไม่ได้เลวร้าย หากแต่เป็นเพราะเราคาดหวังกับงานเขียนในชุดนี้ไว้มาก เราเลยแก้ความผิดหวังด้วยการหยิบเอาเล่มต่อไปในชุดมาอ่านทันที

Marie has done it again with the next book in the Fatal Series.... I just can not get enough of Nick and Sam and the rest of the gang. As soon as I finish one book I am downloading and deliving right into the next book.

Nick and Sam return from their honeymoon and dive right back into their life and work. This book has a bit of a twist in that the crime Sam is investigating does not have a political connection this time which was really nice to see as we all no even though they are in DC not all...more

I love Marie Force's entire Fatal series--the main power couple of Nick and Sam is real and fantastic (albeit at times Nick is almost too perfect), all the 'secondary' characters are incredibly fleshed out and get their moments to shine throughout the various books, and the writing is fast-paced and tight. Fatal Flaw by Marie Force
I have a few other books by Marie and I'm not sure why I kept putting off reading them other
than the covers look dark so I thought a lot of killings and suspense. I'm a bit squeamish around
blood and such but wow was I happy to learn this is more than a suspense, it's got a bit of
romance and a lot of mystery to it. I've not yet read the other books in the series but I do
have them but while reading I was brought up to date on the other characters without giving

Fatal Flaw is a great addition to the Fatal series. I love the characters of Lt. Samantha Holland and Senatur Nick Cappuana, and this book was a satisfying continuation of their story. As usual, there was plenty of steam and chemistry between the two main characters amid a suspenseful and fast paced storyline. I'd happily give this 5 stars if Sam weren't Sam.
Another solidly plotted romantic suspense story, which I've come to expect from this series (and author), but Sam is a thorn in my side.
The one thing I give her credit for is how she "dealt" with Jeannie and got her to come out of hiding and start regaining her confidence and strength.

The one thing I give her credit for is how she "dealt" with Jeannie and got her to come out of hiding and start regaining her confidence and strength.
There are so many things going on in this book and all the side stories are beautifully done. From Jeannie starting to recover and deal with her attack, to Freddie standing up to his mom and Lindsay and Terry's fledgling relationship there really is a wealth of great moments and characters throughout the novel.
But having the old case swept under the rug so that Sam's feelings wouldn't be hurt and the way her dad messed up the case wouldn't become known left me feeling conflicted. On one hand I get that since they don't have actual evidence against the brother there's no point in going forward. On the other it smells of a cover up and leaves a bad aftertaste.
And now something that's been increasingly bothering me almost since the beginning of the series. I get that Lt. Stahl is Sam's nemesis and nobody likes him. I get that he is considered to be incompetent, irritating and petty and is generally disliked by pretty much every other character that knows him. I also get that he is overweight. However, using the fact that he's overweight and descriptions such as jiggling jowls and the like to punctuate how repulsive he is and connect that to him being incompetent is to me a big fat fail. Seeing as those are supposed to be Sam's the thoughts and feelings makes for another reason to dislike her character. You can dislike a person because of many things, but thinking along the lines of you're fat and are therefore worth less should be outgrown by the time you become and adult. So, yes I get that Stahl is an incompetent moron with a repulsive personality, but I don't think his weight has anything to do with it. Sam implying it does makes me think she is not a nice person.
Will I continue with the series?
Most likely yes, but not because of Sam. Rather because of the other characters.(less)

If you’ve read many of my reviews, you’ll soon see that I’m not a big fan of romantic suspense. Frankly, I’m a wimp! But this past summer I read Marie Force’s wedding novella Fatal Destiny and liked it so much that when I saw Fatal Flaw was available on NetGalley, I instantly requested it. It then sat on my Kindle for months. And I mean MONTHS!!! I finally got around to reading it yesterday, and now I can’t believe I waited to read it this long. Even though I haven’t read any of the first 3 novels in the series, I could pick up this book and follow along without any problem. And since there are a lot of narrative threads in this book, I think it’s fairly impressive that I could dive right in.

Fatal Flaw picks up right after Senator Nick Cappuano and D.C. Police Lieutenant Samantha “Sam” Holland return from their honeymoon. On Sam’s first day back to work, she’s opening some of the cards sent after the wedding and finds one with a thinly veiled threat. She then goes to Nick’s office and scoops up all of his cards (and there are nearly 1000 between the two of them!) to see if hers was the only threatening one.

Sam then gets called out to a puzzling murder scene. A restaurant owner and his teenage employee were locked into the deep freezer and asphyxiated, but the murdered left the deposit bag for the night sitting on the counter. As Sam and her team investigate, they learn that both the owner and the teenager had no enemies to speak of, and the investigation seems to stall. But soon Sam finds herself dealing with a handful of murders – all of victims with no apparent enemies. She has to uncover the truth before this budding serial killer turns his eyes towards more personal targets.

There is a lot to like about this book, but the protagonists and secondary characters are what sell it for me. Sam’s a very appealing heroine. She’s tough but comes across as a very real person, since she’s experienced infertility issues and has to deal with her father’s failing health. Nick is a very sexy hero who’s very much in love with the police lieutenant, which makes him all the more charming. The secondary characters come across as real people as well, since they have their flaws but still make for a tight-knit support group for Sam.

The book is easy to read, with lots of action interspersed with various views of the different dramas occurring in all the characters’ lives. This kept me interested, but it also felt a bit like a soap opera, and I kept wondering why so much time was spent on the secondary characters instead of Sam and Nick. About halfway through the book I found myself wondering when we’d get back to the murders, because it seemed like we were spending more time on individual relationships than the suspense part of the novel. Additionally, the resolution felt a bit deus ex machina – Sam’s dad has been in a medically induced coma and as soon as he comes out of it and hears the details of her cases, he puts all the threads together and WHAMMY he solves the case.

That said, I found the book really engrossing. I loved reading about the various characters and their relationships, and while I’m usually not a romantic suspense fan, I really liked this book. I think that if you like thrillers or more “suspense” this might not be the book for you, but if you enjoy character driven drama, I highly recommend Fatal Flaw. I’ll definitely be catching up on the first three books in the series!

Whoa!! I must say, poor Sam!! She definitely doesn't get a rest after the honeymoon is over!! Cases...more It's two weeks after the honeymoon in Bora-Bora, and Lt. Sam Holland is back to work. Whoa!! I must say, poor Sam!! She definitely doesn't get a rest after the honeymoon is over!! Cases after cases, the veinly threats, her father. No wonder than in this book, she develops severed migraine!! But the book is moving in a very nice and speed pace. Its 400+ and it feels like time flies when I read it. I'm happy that Sam and Nick stay strong; one of my favorite moment will be when Sam confronts a husband of one of the victims for his affair, and she firmly tells him that the man SHE married, will NEVER have an affair. It's just not who Nick is. Awww.

I also enjoy the development of other relationships:

Detective Freddie Cruz is finally making his stance with his mother and his girlfriend, Elin Svendsen. There is one news that hit Freddie hard ((view spoiler)) but I think by the end of this book, that one is thoroughly handled.

Another one is District’s Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Lindsey McNamara and Terry O'Connor, Nick's deputy chief of staff (who also the older brother of Nick's best friend). Terry is an alcoholic but he has been in rehab and building his life back from the ruins. I really enjoy their relationship as well. The scene where Terry talks about himself in an AA-meeting gets me teary eyed.

And last will be Detective Jeannie McBride; she has been brutally assaulted in the previous book -- and now she is dealing with the recovery of being a rape victim and a police officer. In this one, Sam is giving her an old case to get Jeannie back on her feet again.

One relationship that being put behind the scene will be Sam's colleague Detective Tommy “Gonzo” Gonzales and his fiancée, Christina Billings (who is also Nick's chief of staff). I guess theirs as bit as solid as Sam and Nick now, even with the light of Gonzo's newborn son from his ex-girlfriend. I kind of hoping that we will see Gonzo and Christina's wedding too one of these days.

The only thing that disappoints me a bit is regarding Scotty. I've been wishing for him to be adopted by Sam and Nick. While the issue has been explored, but the answer doesn't make me happy *pout* ((view spoiler))

It's so good to be with these characters again. It's sort of like the "light" version of J.D. Robb's "In Death" series, but still gives an edge because all these characters (including the secondary ones) have issues to deal with: miscarriage, infertility, rape victim, alcohol abuse ... definitely not common happy romance, for sure.(less)

Book 5 in the series is not like most series that you think the first is the best. This could be the best one in the series so far! The only "Flaw" was that the book ended and left me wanting LOTS more. (Please write faster and faster Marie, I have to know what happens!)

A great addition to one of my favorite series. Lieutenant Samantha Holland and Senator Nick Cappuano are back from their honeymoon in Bora Bora, and mere minutes after Sam is back on duty, she gets a call about a double homicide, apparently motiveless. As the murders continue, the case becomes more confusing with each one. Once again, our favorite couple is thrown in to multiple murders. Recently home from their honeymoon, they barely have time to unpack before they are embroiled in another threat on their lives.

And as always, the author is allowing us to get to know the supporting cast. WOW! Why in the world have I waited so long to read this book?! Another excellent addition to the Fatal series. It just keeps getting better and better, I love this series!

It's a given that I love Nick (he's my romance book boyfriend) and Sam, but I was so excited to see the cast of characters get more story in this book. I'd love to write more, but all I can say is read this series, one of my all time favorites that just keeps getting better and better.

Fatal Flaw is the 4th installment in Ms. Force's Fatal Series. Each book in the series builds up to the next so it is advisable to read them in order. The main characters remain the same throughout the series and you get to know them better with each book. Senator Nick Cappuano and D.C. Police Lieutenant Sam Holland have the leading roles and I have come to really like both of their characters even though they are almost polar opposites. Sam Holland can be a hard woman to connect with and like, but I have found her "toughness" admirable and even endearing at times. The Senator is super sexy, honorable, smart, and knows when to let a woman have her way. The perfect man, right? Their differences aside, when you put the two together fireworks go off! There is such a sweet and heartwarming love between them that is impossible not to be caught up in.

I have to say that with each new book in this series I end up liking the series as a whole that much more. The characters are well thought out, interact well with each other and are just so darn believable (even the ones I don't personally care for as characters). They just seem to "come to life" while reading and I feel like I actually know them, their good traits as well as bad. They are just so gritty and real. The storyline is never boring and doesn't drag. Along with the action, mystery, and suspense there is such a sweet romance between Sam and Nick that at times it makes my heart hurt (in a good way). The chemistry and love between the two of them is awe inspiring.

Ms. Force has the ability to write a suspenseful mystery where you are kept guessing until the very end. Her novels bring the "on the edge of your seat" entertainment that so many novels lack. I honestly have a very hard time putting the book down once I have started (to the point that I don't even want to take time to eat or go to the restroom).

Definitely a series you want to check out if this genre appeals to you. (less)

They have spent the past three books on a whirlwind romance filled with intrigue, murder, and mayhem.

After Fatal Destiny, the wedding novella, I was convinced that Sam and Nick weren't going to have an easy transition into married life. I usually enjoy saying I told you so, but this storyline took a completely different direction than I thought it may have been going, considering the arrest that was made before the wedding in Fatal Destiny. That said, it was a storyline that had me riveted from the very beginning because there appeared to be no clear motive. With Sam and her team stumped, I was flipping (figuratively) through the pages hoping there was some clue that we were missing. Add in the mysterious cards being sent to both Sam and Nick and start wondering how everything is connected.

As with the other Fatal books, it's Sam and Nick's relationship that truly draws me in. With all the crap the two of them have had to deal with in the past three months, it was wonderful to see how completely in-sync they were with each other. It's as if a switch has been flipped with Sam since she's had that wedding band placed on her finger, she's suddenly not all about the whatever investigation she's working on. The place she wants to be is with Nick (and really...why wouldn't she want to spend as much time as possible with the Senator from Virginia???)

Not to be outdone by our main characters, Marie Force has created a wonderful group of secondary characters that intertwine with Nick and Sam both professionally and personally that round out each and every book in the series. Here's a breakdown of each of those storylines:

Scotty storyline makes me smile and gives me hope that Sam and Nick can have that family they want so much. They may not have the best lifestyle for raising a child in, but it's clear the two of them would do anything for Scotty and that he adores them. I can't wait to see where things with him go.
Freddie's storyline with his mother and Elin continues, but we get the added twist of his estranged father entering the picture. Freddie doesn't handle all of this really well, but I don't think anyone can be disappointed with the direction his character is going.
Gonzo and Christine's storyline was brief, but they're still going strong raising baby Alex together.
We got a new romance with Terry O'Conner, Deputy Chief of Staff for Nick and ME Lindsey McNamara. These two hot!
Jeanine McBride, still dealing with the aftermath of her abduction and rape, readjusts to her new life (both personally and professionally). Her's is a heartbreaking storyline, but towards the end we started to see Jeanine's old spark shine through.
I was still left wondering about Sam's dad, Skip and what really happened with the Fitzgerald investigation. Will we ever find out what Jeanine and Will found or is this the end of it? I'm hoping we get some closure to that in future books.

If you thought Nick and Sam couldn't possibly get any hotter, Marie Force moves the bar up another twenty or so notches!!! Marie Force at her best and a true example of why she is on my "Must Buy" list.

I have loved every single book in the series so far and after that amazing wedding novella, Nick and Sam feel like close friends that I love to visit with. There is a lot going on in this book but Marie Force ties it all together beautifully. Sam and Nick remain the central characters but we also get more glimpses into the lives of her detectives and family. Freddie, Jeannie, Gonzo, Terry O’Connor and Lindsay McNamara, the medical examiner, are all part of the ride and I wouldn’t have wanted to miss any of them. This group of characters makes the series so real and lively. At the same time they never distract from Nick and Sam or the current investigation. Marie Force found the perfect balance between suspense and love in all forms, romance, family and friendship. While this is a fast-paced book, the reader gets some down time from the stress of Sam’s job and can relax at one of the many cute, funny and romantic scenes with the married couple. I cannot say often enough how much I adored this book. Every time I read a book in this series I think it can’t possibly get better than this. Marie Force seems to top herself over and over again and keeps things interesting and fresh.

I absolutely did not want this book to end. I hope there will be a fifth installment and we get to know more about Freddie and Elin, Jeannie and her boyfriend and of course I want to know what happens to Scotty. I loved every single page and devoured every single word of this book. Fatal Flaw comes with high recommendation from Swept Away by Romance. If you enjoy a funny, cute and sexy romance with a well-developed suspense plot and many loveable characters, this is the book for you.

i love this series!!!! i love how in love nick and sam are and how their worlds keep colliding with her cops falling for his senator staff. i also love the relationship they both have developed with scotty and how they want to adopt him into their family. i also love they way she and her cops work well together during cases. i really hope stahl gets what he so deserves

This is a series that I am really enjoying. I love the relationships in the books and the suspense is just right. Sometimes I can figure out the guilty party, but not in this book. It was an excellent read that I would highly recommend for anyone who enjoys romantic suspense. Do yourself a favor though, start from the first book. You won't regret it. Great read.
