I actually found the premise of this novel very interesting, unfortunately it was just written by a amateur writer. I felt completely disconnected from the 'love' between the two main characters. Day kept writing on the page how passionate they were together but I didn't pick up on that when reading. It take more to convey passion and a depth of feeling then simply stating it in black and white. The characters have to display this through their gestures. I'm actually reading this book again for the second time before I start on the next book.

I love love loved reading this book again for the second time. I loved the way Aidan Cross simply adored Lyssa. They both had such a great connection and their sex scenes were hot. I found through out the book I was holding my breath through certain parts.

Having this book as an audio....JEEZ! The book is graghic and to have someone read it, I was worried the people around me would see me blush. I liked Sylvia Day in the CrossFire Series so I thought I would check out some of her other series...the plot is abnormal and reaching. Not sure if I'm going to bother to read the 2nd book of the series yet. Dream Warriors fighting against nightmare phantoms.....hmm not sure about that.

He and his people in a conduit, which is like a wormhole, that the Elders created when they had to leave their home world to save themselves from the Nightmares. Living in that conduit has stopped them from aging, making them nearly immortal. Aidan is already a few centuries old. Their defending of humans is not purely altruistic. They are looking for the Key. Legend says that the Key is the person who will bring destruction to Aidan’s kind and allow Nightmares to win and the warriors’ mission is to kill that person when they find her.

Lyssa Bates is a veterinarian with a sleep disorder. She sleeps too much, but is always exhausted. She’s had that problem from an early age. Many doctors have tried to discern what the cause of that is but with no success. One day she comes home from work already wiped out, barely manages to get to her couch and falls asleep. And in her dream she is visited by Aidan Cross. Lyssa is not like the most of Dreamers. She actually doesn’t have dreams and doesn’t let Nightmares or the Guardians in. She has locked herself and just sits in the dark. At least that has been the case until Aidan knocks on her door. He plans to use the usual approach with her by fulfilling the role of who ever she wants him to be, but she won’t play. To his surprise, she wants to know his name and after he gives it to her, she lets him in. Inside he finds the same darkness surrounding her dream. He thinks about sending for a Nurturer because healing is not his job, but decides not to. Instead, he stays, for the first time interested in a Dreamer. He finds her in the dark, she tells him that all she wants to do is sleep so he pulls her to him, tells her to rest and promises to make sure she’s not disturbed.

And that is how their love story begins.

I didn't like this book as much a liked some of the others of the same author, but I still liked it. I liked almost all of the characters. None of them made me want to punch them in the face. I loved Aidan and Lyssa. Aidan Cross. Love that name for several reasons. Aside from the way he looks, which is mouthwatering, I really liked the person inside that ridiculously good looking exterior, which is what matters the most. The way he is with Lyssa is so sweet. I love when a man like Aidan Cross gets that way. And Lyssa Bates. I may be prejudiced, but I believe that whoever’s that nice to animals has to be a good person. She hasn’t shown any sign to be anything else. Although, I did think that I did not get to know Lyssa well. I wanted some more backstory for her. The way they are together is truly beautiful and inspirational. If only everyone was as open and honest in their relationships as they are. Life would be so much simpler if they were. The sex, like in all of Sylvia Day’s books, was very hot, and what makes it so hot are the emotions that fuel it. The characters seem to need to be physically connected as much as they need to breathe. The same was with Lyssa and Aidan. Their relationship was also filled with an air of desperation because they never knew how much time they had or whether that particular time they were with each other would be their last.
The paranormal aspect was a bit confusing to me, but I watched TV series that were much more complicated and perplexing than this book, so I won’t criticize.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and read it in one day. It is hot hot HOT! The sex is amazing. I will say that I connected so with the emotional aspects brought out during sex between the two main characters too...a couple of scenes had me crying they were so touching. But most were hot. This one by Sylvia Day I found quite interesting. Although erotic and quite steamy, it also had the supernatural element to it. Unfortunately I abandoned this book at 33%, not because it was particularly bad - I just couldn't get into it, as much as I tried and tried it just didn't hook me in, I could have finished to the end but my days of having to read something, because I had to, are in my distant past and now I read only for pleasure, this was not a pleasure, which was so disappointing as other works by Sylvia Day I have thoroughly enjoyed.

After he tells her about himself and where he is from she believes him. They take turn sleeping so that their minds are not taken over. When he goes to sleep he is taken, she finds that he is not even moving and knows somthing bad is happening. So she ends up laying down beside him and going to sleep. His friends are their waiting for her to help them. They believe in their captian over the elders. She arrives in twilight. There she hears voices. She opens the door to her mind and walks through it. And no one but the key can do that. Lyssa is taken to where Aiden's being held captive. They break in and rescue him. He is so over whelmed that she is in his world and scared shitless. All he cared about is getting her back into her body without anyone hurting her. But his love for her is so strong he has to tell her to leave so that he can concentrate on what is ahead of him. While she is waiting to leave she feels and smells him. Before he touches her she tell him that she loves him. That puts him over the edge. He grabs her and tells her in her ear that he loves her too. A month has passed and she is so depressed. All her friends and family don't remember a thing about him. She feels so lost. He on the other hand is going crazy trying to figure out how to protect her. When an elder comes to him and lets him know that she is in danger still out in the human world. He crosses the barrer into the human world again. He leaves twilight is the capable hands of his best friend. When he shows up on her steps a 2nd time she is overwhelmed with emotions. And he want her to know he loves her and he is ready to start his life with her.

Great story. Couldn't get enough of it. The characters were great in the fact that they complimented each other. You could see how they both longed for the other. I'm glad that after so many years of being alone, he now has someone that he can't get enough of.. in and out of bed. Can't wait for the next book. I have to know what happens next!!(less)

I decided to read this book after reading "Bared to You" which I loved.

Basically you automatically get introduced to the main characters Lyssa Bates and Aiden Cross. Lyssa is a regular human "Dreamer" while Aiden is a nearly immortal "Guardian." When dreamers fall asleep, but before they enter deep sleep, they enter the "Twilight" which is another dimension which we know as the dream world. The Guardians each have certain tasks for the Dreamers. They are able to enter their dreams and basically give them their dreams. Some able to fulfil deep desires of the Dreamers disguised as who the Dreamers wish to see, some even just creating a setting of maybe a picnic or sport event, all without the Dreamer ever knowing their identity or the truth of what goes on. However, the main job for the Guardians is to protect the Dreamers from the Nightmares. The Nightmares wish to haunt the dreams of the Dreamers until slowly they deteriorate from exhaustion, fear of sleep and so on. However, the Guardians constanly search for "The Key." The Key is a Dreamer who is able to control their dreams and see the Guardian's true identities. The Key is said to have the power to open the Gateway and allow the Nightmares to enter the human world would be a disaster as we know it, which is why the Elders search for it and wish to destroy it.
So, Aiden is assigned enter Lyssa's dream world. The Elders were suspicious of her since she knows about the Guardians and refuses them to enter. Somehow she allows Aiden in more than once where they learn about each other, fall in love...and have some hot steamy sex ;). So of course Aiden realises his worst fear when he discovers Lyssa is the Key. Suspecting that the Elders hide the truth about the Key and more, he risks his life to save her from death; he finds a way into her world and at her doorstep where she has no memory of meeting him.
Basically, this part of the book drags where they get to know each other all over, while be protects her from the Twilight by exhausting her with sex and sleeping pills, before Aiden realizes he must go back go his world where they have no chance if being together. Realizing the danger he's in, Lyssa soon follows him to the Twilight through her dreams to fight back. At this point, its unclear of the details of what happens but basically Lyssa and Aiden share heartbreaking goodbyes, she returns to her world heartbroken , and everyone's memory of Aiden is erased but enable to be strong enough to erase Lyssa's. Somehow, Aiden finds a way to return to her world in the end deciding he would travel and jump back and forth between worlds, still a little unclear how this comes about but I'm sure we'll find out more in the next.

This story started out fast and good, rushing right in. However, is slowed down towards the middle until more than 2/3rds in, and besides the okay sex I was a little bored. The story line had so much potential, I was intrigued and it got me thinking, but there was no climax! We jump into the small climax, jump back out with an easy way out. I really loved every character individually. Lyssa, a smart beautiful veterinarian with a sense of humor. Where to start with Aiden? He is literally the man of her dreams, sexy, strong, wise, amazingly good looking, the whole package. I was sucked into their love story but the story as a whole needed more and the ending felt a little unresolved. I'm going to wait for the other books in the series to judge further on this as a whole. This book was OKAY maybe good but it could have been better. I learned Sylvia Day's ability to write incredibly well with Bared to You. Pleasures of the Night was written very well and creatively, but needs more to the storyline. BUT, we still need to find out what Lyssa can do, how Aiden can manage to be with her, what the Elders are hiding, and more..(less)

The strongest part of this book for me was the paranormal aspect. I thought it was an interested concept, and would have enjoyed more of a focus on it. Perhaps the second book in this series delves deeper into Aiden's world, but I have not decided yet if I am going to bother to read it.

I really enjoyed this new series by Sylvia Day. It is the first in this series that my Kindle does not provide the name of. I hate when that happens.

Sylvia Day is one of my all time favourite readers and she never manages to dissapoint. She manages to mesh the genres that she has chosen whether it be historical or paranormal so well with the romance and erotica part of her books. I've never been left feeling like oh well there could have been more sex, or there could have been less of it etc.

In Pleasures of the Night Aidan Cross is an alien who is captain of an Elite squad who help to fight off the Nightmares and protect Dreamers from their wraith. For Aidan this protection involves helping dreamers by fulfilling their sexual fantasties. He has slept with thousands of women in their dreams but has never experienced such desire until Lyssa Bates. However with Lyssa under suspicion of being the 'key' a legend that has the power to unleash the Nightmares into the human world and therefore must be executed, Aidan has to choose between his growing desire for Lyssa and the mission he has been working an eternity to achieve.

I thought this book was extremely original. The idea and plot is not something that I have really seen before and I have to give it to Day's creativity. However even though this is a new idea, I didn't feel confused at all because it is well explained, without becoming boring. That said there is necessary world building in this novel and until some of Day's other novels there wasn't the whole idea of a 'slow burn' but rather them jumping into bed with each other. However that didn't seem to faze me.

I probably would have liked greater insight into Lyssa as a character because although Aidan was established as a efficient fighter and captain who is struggling with the ideas and directives he has followed his whole life, we don't really see as much of Lyssa's personality, her past, her present, her feelings etc.

However that said I am looking forward to Connor's book. (less)

PLEASURE OF THE NIGHT was interesting in many ways.

I enjoyed the dream aspect of the story, but understanding the math behind the Key and all the secrets that the Elders were holding back really took away from the story. I just couldn’t keep it straight.

Aiden Cross, his buddy Connor Bruce and Philip Wager are all guardians, beings in a separate world that enter people’s dreams and ward off nightmares while fulfilling their dreamer’s desires.

I had no idea this series was out there-poor me! I love Sylvia Day's writing. Her characters have a way of drawing me in and making me cheer for them. I was skeptical about this because I started ready SD with Eva and Gideon from "Bared to You" and thought no way anything could live up to them. This is my 1st book by Silvya Day and all I can say is oh em gee!! LOL! I was completely taken by surprise with the sex scenes in this book. I knew when I decided to give this type of book a try, based on the description that it would have some erotic scenes but was shocked when I read the 1st page! I really enjoyed this book. I would say that the main focus is on the Hero and Heroine, Aiden and Lyssa (who are amazing by the way). There is a good storyline that runs throughout, which I am looking forward to learning more about.

I just read Pleasures of the Night. I really enjoyed it! It's not the kind of book I usually read with different dimensions in the universe between the human world and the dream world but Sylvia Day managed to write it as to make it an easy read. What to say about this book? At first, I was intrigued by the storyline: A dream guardian that comes to you in your sleep to protect you from your nightmares....interesting! I have never come across a scenario like this before. So an inevitable romance ensues between Aidan (a Guardian) and Lyssa (the Dreamer)...ok still intrigued. I’ve always being a good guy/warrior/hero type of girl. I loved the romance between Lyssa and Aidan; I liked even more that he was a guardian from another world willing to sacrifice everything he knew for a mortal. Now that’s love!! This was an easy read considering going back and forth from the worlds of immortal to mortal. First of its type for me-Erotica/Paranormal. I picked it up as a quick read after reading Bared to You by Ms. Day. Ms. Day has a unique writing style that is sometimes confusing, all the back and forth leaves your mind whirling, kind of like a sensual dream. The pages are full of erotic sexual dreams, action, loaded with multi-layered characters, and makes you as a reader believe sensual night dreams are delivered by yummy, mouth-watering guardians. A one-nighter for sure!
