I actually found the premise of this novel very interesting, unfortunately it was just written by a amateur writer. I felt completely disconnected from the 'love' between the two main characters. Day kept writing on the page how passionate they were together but I didn't pick up on that when reading. It take more to convey passion and a depth of feeling then simply stating it in black and white. The characters have to display this through their gestures. The only love scene that caught my intere...more

I'm actually reading this book again for the second time before I start on the next book.

I love love loved reading this book again for the second time. I loved the way Aidan Cross simply adored Lyssa. They both had such a great connection and their sex scenes were hot. I found through out the book I was holding my breath through certain parts.

The first time I read this book it honestly took me by surprise with the whole dream sequences and such but as I got through it I just fell in love with h...more

Having this book as an audio....JEEZ! The book is graghic and to have someone read it, I was worried the people around me would see me blush. I liked Sylvia Day in the CrossFire Series so I thought I would check out some of her other series...the plot is abnormal and reaching. Not sure if I'm going to bother to read the 2nd book of the series yet. Dream Warriors fighting against nightmare phantoms.....hmm not sure about that.

Captain Aidan Cross is a Dream Guardian, member of Elite Warriors. He guards humans in their dreams, skillfully and competently fighting off and killing Nightmares. His job description also includes a much more enjoyable activity: he fulfills sexual fantasies of female Dreamers. He’s tall, dark and handsome and so much more. Since I've read more books by Sylvia Day, I found his looks very predictable. He is also an excellent soldier, loyal friend and a good commanding officer. He and his people...more

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and read it in one day. It is hot hot HOT! The sex is amazing. I will say that I connected so with the emotional aspects brought out during sex between the two main characters too...a couple of scenes had me crying they were so touching. But most were hot. I also loved the theme of this book dealing with our dream world and supernatural beings involved therein. Very original storyline to me anyway. LOL I do wish that there had been a bit more background into the wh...more

This one by Sylvia Day I found quite interesting. Although erotic and quite steamy, it also had the supernatural element to it. Lyssa meets Captain Aidan Cross in her dreams, because that is where he protects her. He is a dream guardian protecting her from the nightmares, but she seems to be able to control the dream world surprisingly well for a human. When when the two meet in her dreams their attraction is so strong, neither are able to overcome their feelings; it's hot. Wanting Aidan to be i...more

Unfortunately I abandoned this book at 33%, not because it was particularly bad - I just couldn't get into it, as much as I tried and tried it just didn't hook me in, I could have finished to the end but my days of having to read something, because I had to, are in my distant past and now I read only for pleasure, this was not a pleasure, which was so disappointing as other works by Sylvia Day I have thoroughly enjoyed.

Without giving too much away this is the story of a young woman (Lyssa), a ve...more

I decided to read this book after reading "Bared to You" which I loved.
SPOILER ALERT!!**

Basically you automatically get introduced to the main characters Lyssa Bates and Aiden Cross. Lyssa is a regular human "Dreamer" while Aiden is a nearly immortal "Guardian." When dreamers fall asleep, but before they enter deep sleep, they enter the "Twilight" which is another dimension which we know as the dream world. The Guardians each have certain tasks for the Dreamers. They are able to enter their drea...more

I enjoyed it, but there were too many unanswered questions at the end.

This is the first in a series. The second book is coming out in 2008. It was pretty good for paranormal, but I prefer other paranormal worlds. This is about humans having dreams. While dreaming, guardians join them in the dreams. The guardians are aliens who live on another plane and fight off nightmares from hurting humans. Aiden is a guardian who falls in love with Lyssa a human and he crosses over to the earth world. She al...more

The strongest part of this book for me was the paranormal aspect. I thought it was an interested concept, and would have enjoyed more of a focus on it. Perhaps the second book in this series delves deeper into Aiden's world, but I have not decided yet if I am going to bother to read it.

The connection between Aiden and Lyssa was tenuous at best. I found it highly unlikely that she accepted him so quickly into her life despite not knowing who he was. I also found it sort of ridiculous that despite...more

I really enjoyed this new series by Sylvia Day. It is the first in this series that my Kindle does not provide the name of. I hate when that happens.

It is erotic and edgy. I won't say I was blown away by the level of creativity but I really enjoyed the way she paced the story and how she peeled away the layers of mystery to reveal the underlying conflict. This story was a cliffhanger, which is usually a pet peeve with me but it brought enough closure to the hero and heroine's story that I let i...more

Fantasy/other-world/alien type romances aren't usually my thing, but I very much enjoyed this book. My only complaint is that I found it a bit difficult to follow the descriptions of where they were and what was happening in Aiden's world. I read for pleasure and don't really care to work too hard mentally at it. lol. The story is of Aiden and Lyssa. Aiden is a angel that provides pleasure to Lyssa in her dreams. That is until her physical person is threatened and Aiden takes the risk and makes...more

I decided to read this after reading 'Bared To You' by Sylvia Day... I have to say I'm really disappointed by it. The story line was hard to follow sometimes and in the beginning I just wasn't really into it at all because I just didn't get the concept. I'll admit that the only reason it got the score I gave it was because the sex scenes were really great... But that didn't make me love the book... And the ending?? I mean come on, who ends a book like that? Overall was expecting more since I lov...more

I thought this story had an interesting premise, and I have enjoyed other books by this author ("Bared to You"), so I started "Pleasures of the Night" but I just can't finish it.

It is going in my DNF stack. After starting out briskly, when we meet Lyssa and Aidan Cross, the plot seems to start spinning in circles. I understand that the author has to explain her fantasy world and its rules to her readers, but surprisingly, there just seems to be waay too much smoke and mirrors to make sense of. I...more

Vacation read. Picked because it was cheap on Barnes and Noble for my Nook. Curious because this has been recommended (by librarians at a conference even) as a far better example of erotica than 50 Shades of Blah. I would disagree. It was a tad bit better. After several steamy scenes between the two main charactes, I couldn't quite figure out what was bugging me so much about the book. Then I read one of those scenes aloud to my husband. Through the tears (of laughter) streaming from my eyes aft...more

I enjoyed this book. I have never read books about the dream world before. Not sure what subgenre of romance this falls into. But Aiden is one hell if a hunky Guardian that I would love to have enter my dream world. He is sent into the human world to enter Lyssa's dream & see if she is the "key" that his Elders want destroyed. Aiden is the only Guardian that Lyssa's allows into her dreams. A connection form between these two that shows you love is universal. Although a some of the info rega...more

3.5

Sylvia Day is one of my all time favourite readers and she never manages to dissapoint. She manages to mesh the genres that she has chosen whether it be historical or paranormal so well with the romance and erotica part of her books. I've never been left feeling like oh well there could have been more sex, or there could have been less of it etc.

This book is no exception.

"He was a dream, an alien, a man centuries older than she was. She was a threat, a prophecy, the key to his destruction....more

2.5 it was an okay read.

PLEASURE OF THE NIGHT was interesting in many ways.

I enjoyed the dream aspect of the story, but understanding the math behind the Key and all the secrets that the Elders were holding back really took away from the story. I just couldn’t keep it straight.

Aiden Cross, his buddy Connor Bruce and Philip Wager are all guardians, beings in a separate world that enter people’s dreams and ward off nightmares while fulfilling their dreamer’s desires.

A prophecy states a Key wil...more

I had no idea this series was out there-poor me! I love Sylvia Day's writing. Her characters have a way of drawing me in and making me cheer for them. I was skeptical about this because I started ready SD with Eva and Gideon from "Bared to You" and thought no way anything could live up to them. Although this has a fantasy twist to it (like Gideon is not a fantasy in and of himself ;-)) the characters are still fantastic the concept is great and I loved it. Of course all of the guardians are beau...more

This is my 1st book by Silvya Day and all I can say is oh em gee!! LOL! I was completely taken by surprise with the sex scenes in this book. I knew when I decided to give this type of book a try, based on the description that it would have some erotic scenes but was shocked when I read the 1st page! I gotta say though, I quite enjoyed it and plan to buy the next book in the series. Though I'm a bit dissapointed to find out she doesn't have plans to continue the series till later due to dissagrem...more

When I bought this book I did not realize there was a number two, so now I am bummed that I dont have number two to read right away, know what I will be getting the next time I go to the book store though. I really like the story line in this book. I want to know more and know more, so many unaswered questions and a lot of things that I need to make sense. Hopefully I get the second book soon; although after reading the reviews for the second book I am bummed to hear that this series has been pu...more

I really enjoyed this book. I would say that the main focus is on the Hero and Heroine, Aiden and Lyssa (who are amazing by the way). There is a good storyline that runs throughout, which I am looking forward to learning more about.
One reason I didn't rate this book higher is because it was (in some parts) very confusing. The information we are learning about their world is thrown at you quite quickly and isn't explained very well. I for one don't know a lot about the dream world and the subc...more

I just read Pleasures of the Night. I really enjoyed it! It's not the kind of book I usually read with different dimensions in the universe between the human world and the dream world but Sylvia Day managed to write it as to make it an easy read. I saw some reviews from people that said it was hard to follow & had to re- read pages ... I didn't find that at all.. It was very easy to follow & I loved the erotica & the relationship between Aidan & Lyssa .... I don't think I could...more

SO bummed because her Crossfire novels were so fun to read. This honestly felt like a rough draft that one would later go back to to fill in character info. The reader would actually care about the characters and feel the passion between them if we understood the depth of their connection through more context, history and perhaps inner dialogue. The premise is so fun I am really bummed this book didn't work out. I had to give up on it. I also thought if I read them call one another 'hot stuff' o...more

I liked the plot of the book, unfortunately this is more of Erotica then Paranormal Romance. The story line could have been great if it actually was the focus of the book, but it wasn’t. I like the writing to some extend, but the language was driving me crazy. Can’t stand cursing and slang in books, and some of the dialogs between main characters were just silly. I didn’t expect anything deep from the book in this category and with that title, but something enjoyable (beside the very graphical s...more

What to say about this book? At first, I was intrigued by the storyline: A dream guardian that comes to you in your sleep to protect you from your nightmares....interesting! I have never come across a scenario like this before. So an inevitable romance ensues between Aidan (a Guardian) and Lyssa (the Dreamer)...ok still intrigued. Then BAM...it was ruined for me with the unnecessary raunchy language used during all the sex scenes. I felt like I was reading porn. While the author tried to maintai...more

Aidan Cross is guardian of the realm of Twilight, a place that exists only between the real world and the dream world. It is Aidan’s mission to guard humans from Nightmares when they are dreaming, by having mind blowing sex with them. Also, his other duty as an elite warrior and the reason for his existence is the find and kill The Key. Unfortunately for Aidan, Lyssa is The Key and he falls in love with her.

I don’t know why I decided to read this book. As I was summarizing the plot, I realized j...more

I’ve always being a good guy/warrior/hero type of girl. I loved the romance between Lyssa and Aidan; I liked even more that he was a guardian from another world willing to sacrifice everything he knew for a mortal. Now that’s love!! This was an easy read considering going back and forth from the worlds of immortal to mortal. It was hot and steamy, I could picture the Hercules type body Aidan and the other guardians had and it kept me on edged. Love, love, loved it! Good one Sylvia Day. Can’t wai...more

Feb 04, 2013 Savannah Day rated it 4 of 5 stars  ·  review of another edition Recommends it for: Those wanting something after 50 Shades.
First of its type for me-Erotica/Paranormal. I picked it up as a quick read after reading Bared to You by Ms. Day. Ms. Day has a unique writing style that is sometimes confusing, all the back and forth leaves your mind whirling, kind of like a sensual dream. The pages are full of erotic sexual dreams, action, loaded with multi-layered characters, and makes you as a reader believe sensual night dreams are delivered by yummy, mouth-watering guardians. A one-nighter for sure!
