This is THE BEST book about American architecture. I'm constantly referencing it and taking it with me on trips!

Though the section I needed most, Dutch Colonial styles, is shorter than I would like, it still proves useful as a handy everyday reference.
Evie Hutchinson
awesome architectural reference for house geeks

This is a must-have reference for any student (or fan) of American domestic architecture. They only suggestion I'd make is to include photographs in addition to the many line drawings of rooflines and other diagnostic details. This is a great book and one I use regularly.

One of the best field guides for Human Geography projects. I have often assigned this work to my students or suggested it for projects in historic architecture.

I am an architecture nerd and I freaking love this book. I could look at it for hours. Maybe its my need for categorization that makes it so appealing?

A Field Guide to American Houses continues to serve as a great resource to help me identify, and place in historic and architectural context those houses by which I am captivated. I like it. It's fun.

I only wish that I had a more current version of the book to learn about more current house design movements. I have the 1984 publish version. Great overall.

It was as dry, in fact even dryer, than I expected but is a decent primer to American house-styles although with a small amount of regional bias.

Really wish I had this book my first year of grad school. Things are finally starting to make since.
