Sometimes, though you know it to be true, nature will remind you of what a bitch it is.

Like, for example, if you come to Australia and manage to avoid the myriad of poisonous spiders, snakes, scorpions, jelly fish, stone fish and some frogs.

Then you manage to not get killed or viciously maimed by the crocodiles, koalas, cassowary, dingos, sharks, sting-rays and locals (do you have any idea of how many tourists go missing and get murdered in Australia?)

Then you survive the outback with its inten...more

Wow. That was my final impression of the much anticipated fifth book in Kim Harrison’s Rachel Morgan series. Much like Harrison’s previous work, For a Few Demons More was a non-stop, action packed romp through an alternate version of Cincinnati. My only complaint was that the relationship of two of the main characters seems to have taken two steps back for the single step forward it gained. And of course the death of a beloved character never sits too well with anyone. But enough of the teasing....more

I don't think this story could have been any better. It was full of action, drama, romance, and last, but not least, it was heartbreaking sad. I knew, what was going to happen, with a character in this story. I have known it, probably since the second book, when i decided to read some comments on the upcoming books. I have known it, in the way that, that character has slowly being removed from the spotlight of this one's and the previous book plot.
Knowing it, didn't make it easier...so i will jo...more

For me this installment in the series wasn't as good as the last 2 books, which were a 5 stars-rating and favs. I would give this book 3.5 stars if possible.

The beginning was good. All the drama with Al was a great way to begin the book. I like him a lot. He's not one of my fav characters but a really good one; you just know that if he's in the picture thing will get juicy.

My problem was that then things got slower and slower. It took me forever to finish it. I got bored more than once and had...more

Yay, I was finally able to give a Kim Harrison book four stars! Let's throw a party.
Much better than the first four books of this series. I wasn't feeling conflicted about it, or confused by it the whole time. I was along for the ride. And by the end, I was totally captivated. I think Rachel finally starts to figure some stuff about herself, which is a relief.
I won't ruin the ending for those of you who are deaf, dumb and blind on this site and don't know what happens already (I'd known since ab...more

I think my heart just about died at the end of the book with the killing of a main character. Yeah, I was clearly pissed too - getting tired of Ivys drama and its just worst in this book. Im not sure why the focus seems to be more about her. I get a friendship being important angle, but that's pretty much where it stops. So it didn't have the death at the end of the book as easy to take at all. The book did have its usual marriages of unusual plot arcs and this installment of the series had more...more

So sad to read about Kisten >_>

Merged review:

Makes you really miss how things used to be.

Merged review:

Not too far removed from Book 4, in For a Few Demons more we see that Rachel still has "the focus," a 5,000 year old demon-crafted werewolf artifact that was the focus of book 4. Considering its power, it's a hot commodity and everybody who is anybody wants to get their hands on it, from the evil Vampire Piscary to business tycoon and underground druglord, Trent Kalamack, to the Weres the...more

Excellent!

I can't decide which book in the series I liked the most! Great action, great scenes, great thinking by the main character... I can't ask for better. Rachel and her friends find a lot more trouble in this novel than the previous four, but this one was the best. Rachel endures more than she ever had in this novel, and she and her circle of friends have no choice but to deal with each catastrophe as they show up. The climax is gripping, the ending sad, but definitely not finished. Rachel...more

Currently working my way through the requisite hundred or so pages of relationship angsting that has to happen before the plot starts. That may sound tedious, and frankly it is. But it's Harrison's pattern, and once the plot kicks into gear it's a fantastic ride. You just have to slog through that introductory angst first.

And now that I'm finished, I'm not sure what I think. The story itself was pretty darned exciting, but I'm getting a little sick of Rachel, and most of the people around her...more

From a blog post I wrote in 2006:

I had one of those great moments when I went to the library. I found the latest books from two series that I read.

Sweet!

I dove into Kim Harrison's new book, For a Few Demons More, as soon as I got home and finished it in one setting. The latest adventures of witch Rachel Morgan include making deals with demons (always scary), the release of her main vampire nemesis from prison, tracking a serial killer who's doing in female werewolves and, perhaps the scariest th...more

this is the next book in the series and is shaping up to be as entertaining as the ones before ... i'll keep you posted

so i finished it up and I have to say i enjoyed it. i love the characters and i love the world that harrison has created. it wasn't quite as good as the last two i read and i don't know if that is because i'm getting a little tired of the main character's inability to grow (she does the same thing over and over - and admitting that you are an adrenline junkie to yourself is diff...more

This is another book for those who love the goings on of Rachael Mariana Morgan the witch bounty hunter. Rachel, who is still in possession of the Werewolf twisted demon curse called "the Focus" is trying to determine why werewolves are being killed and tortured all over the city. Things become even more complex as Rachel is asked to be in the wedding party for rival, Trent Kalamack wedding in order to protect Trent from his demon possessed best man. This story has so many twists and turns and R...more

Plain and simple: I love this series. That's about all there is to it. I know I sound like a broken record, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find something more entertaining and imaginative, at least in this genre. Harrison is a fabulous writer who's created some of the most heartfelt and entertaining characters I've come across in a long time.

This novel feels like everything has finally come to a head: Rachael's dealing with demon magic, she being the keeper of the much sought after were fo...more

I'm a big fan of the Hollows series. Book 4 hit me strangely hard, and after finishing it I can remember literally lying in bed just thinking wow. I'm not sure why I enjoyed it so much but sadly, the same could not be said for book 5.

It hits a lot of the paranormal series that I enjoy, but from books 5 onward the characters seem to just be immersed in so much angst and love woes that the original concept and fun of the series seems to be gone. Kim Harrison has countered that with a few shocking...more

Fifth in her urban fantasy series (click the author tag to view them all) featuring Rachel Morgan, witch for hire. Harrison’s books have an awful lot of boom, and this one is no exception between the weres who keep turning up dead, a master vampire about to be released from jail, bloodshed over the ancient artifact Rachel is hiding, oh yeah and the demon crashing Trent’s wedding.

There are a lot of things I could say here. I could say that, while Harrison’s writing gets better and better with ev...more

I don't think I'll attempt to review the first four books in this series since I read them forever ago. Rather, I'd like to comment on the series as a whole.

This series is unique in that it can be at times fast paced and gripping and also languorous and smooth. Both speeds have their appeal, but it's rare for an author to be able to transition back and forth between them as seamlessly as Kim Harrison has managed to do. A good example for me of the extremely fast end of the pacing spectrum is Rac...more

Rachel Morgan is back in the fifth installment of the Hollows series. She is still dating sexy living vampire, Kisten, and living with her business partners and friends Ivy and Jenks (along with Jenk’s wife and kids). Rachel is still trying to convince Ivy to work out a blood balance with her after Ivy bit her in the last book, but Ivy refuses unless Rachel will throw in sex, which she won’t.

Rachel is awoken one morning by a demon,...more

Slipping back into Kim Harrison's world of Rachel and her friends and foes is very comforting. It makes me wish that I could never leave it because once I start reading her books I feel lost and amazed, the real world forgotten and far away in my mind. Each new volume beckons me to indulge in another fantastic adventure where the fights, jokes, puns, some wicked magic and charismatic characters hold me in a trance until the last page is devoured.

The fifth book of the series has been the book of...more

The artifact that was retrieved from Nick cant stay hidden forever and is making itself known through David. A string of werewolf women are coming up dead and its none other than Glenn an FIB agent who sees them as suspicious deaths where it seems the I.S. is trying to cover them up. Of course Rachel is called in and she is the only one that knows about the artifact for sure, but so many others are speculating and its leading to violence and tension among inderlanders. Rachel and Kisten are stil...more

Book Review: 1 Treasure Box Rating

Rachel has a lot on her plate and with the help of her friends is kept busy fighting off werewolves and demons while at the same time trying to solve a murder. This is the continuing story of Rachel-the witch, Ivy-the living vampire and Jenks-the pixie as they work together fighting against evil and helping their friends.

For a Few Demons More is the fifth book in The Rachel Morgan/The Hollows Series. Currently there are nine books in the series, with another thr...more

This is one of the strongest in this series so far. The biggest flaw is that there are big questions still left at the end about just what actually happened in this book. But this one actually made me cry with the death of one of my favorite characters. I'm definitely invested in this universe.

To talk a bit about the series as a whole: I find it quite engrossing light reading that is best when it's funny in its absurdity. I'm glad that the romantic aspects have stayed somewhat to the side of th...more

I have a love and hate relationship with this book series. Book 4 ended with a lot of hate. I was really annoyed by a lot things, which happened. So I took a long break from this series and wouldn't have touched the next book if was because of boredom.

But when I started it, I remembered why I liked it in the first place. I like the world, a couple of characters and the story and I thought that I may really like this book again, but than again I don't like the the author makes characters really u...more

You know I really don't have a problem with same sex relationships, but if Ivy and Rachel go there I'm seriously going to stop reading this book. Like I said I don't have I problem I really just don't want to read about it. And Rachel, well she just keeps getting worse and worse ugh. I mean if Ivy doesn't want to go there then stop pushing it. Especially if neither of you can control yourselves. It's extremely annoying. Then there's the fact that nothing good ever happens. First Rachel lets ever...more

This book shredded me. I cried for the last 50 pages or so. And not just a silent tear or two, but out-loud crying... messy with used Kleenex all over the sofa. I will not spoil the why's of it, but I can't possibly talk about this book without acknowledging its enormous emotional impact. I don't know if I can ever forgive Kim Harrison.

With the ending weighing on me so heavily, it's hard to look back to the rest of the book. It starts out strong, addressing the repercussions of Rachel's interact...more

The fifth entry in Kim Harrison's series about Rachel Morgan and the Hollows. I would say that this book is easily the best since book two - the action kicked off literally from page one and there were enough plot twists, complications, heart-pounding sex scenes, arguments, comedy moments and terror to keep the pages turning at a vigorous pace!

Here Rachel realises that the focus isn't quite as securely hidden as she originally thought - she wakes to find herself being possessed by scary mad demo...more

*Some spoilers below*

This book was a significant improvement over the previous, even with the requisite Rachel/Ivy drama. It features a ton of Ceri (who I am growing to love), more Al, some Newt (who we only glimpsed in a previous book) and the addition of a new demon, Minias. Anything involving the demons is interesting, in my opinion, and Minias is an unusual one in both function and action.

Ivy and Rachel once again do some boundary pushing, and drama happens, but that drama happily takes a b...more

“Sure am glad I'm not royalty," I muttered. "I wouldn't want to have to bump uglies with someone I can't stand. On a regular basis. And no one else."

"Ow!" I exclaimed, trying to yank my fingers from Trent but finding them caught. Then I colored, realizing what I'd said. "Oh… sorry," I stammered, meaning it. "That was insensitive."

Trent's frown turned into a sly smirk. "Bump uglies?" he said, eyes on the table behind me. "You are a font of gutter slang, Rachel. We must do this again.”
