Because of the subject matter and source material this book is unavoidably episodic and anecdotal, so you need to keep track of the large cast as they move from one challenge to the next.

It is still a thought-provoking and saddening read, especially at a time of renewed brutality and mass migration. In many cases there is also a humbling sense of forgiveness from people who had a great deal to forgive, along with gratitude for their acceptance in a world that seems to have become harder-edged si
