Seduction of a Highland Lass is the second book of the McCabe trilogy by Maya Banks and while I loved and gave 5 stars to In Bed with a Highlander, this book tops it with its passionately fierce love story.

This is Alaric McCabe’s story. Having not read the blurb for this one before opening it up and reading it, I still thought Alaric’s heroine would be Rionna, McDonald’s warrior daughter as was mentioned in the first book. However, upon reading a few chapters of this book, it was clear that Banks had someone else in mind for Alaric. And wow, what a great match it is!

From what I could remember of Alaric in the first book, he was a fierce warrior, willing to give up his own happiness for the good of his clan and brothers. He is betrothed to Rionna McDonald of a neighbouring clan in an effort to gain alliance against Cameron. Alaric is both honourable and loyal, two important characters that every highland warrior should have and I fell hard for him. He was simply too good to be true. I had no idea how sweet he could be. When he's en route to McDonald’s land and is attacked, his horse brings him injured and dying to Keely’s front steps.

Keely is a healer who lives alone in a small house after being banished by the McDonald clan. You find out the reason why she was banished later on in the book and it is tragic. Keely is a strong, smart woman who doesn’t allow the likes of Alaric or his brothers to intimidate her. I absolutely loved her tenacity and willingness to put her foot down when things got rough. The heroines in this series keep their men on their toes.

Alaric and Keely’s romance is dynamite. There has never been a more passionate love than theirs. Though Alaric is set to marry another woman, both of them are unwilling to deny their blooming affections for one another. And so they indulge, and it’s really one of the best things I’ve read in awhile.

However, there is a time for goodbye and it broke my heart to read some of these pages. Highlander romance fans will not want to miss this epic love story. It’s simply too good to pass up.(less)

Wowee! I absolute ADORED this book, more so than the first installment. It's so romantic and it definitely tugged at the heart strings and made me grab the tissues on occasion. Alaric and Keeley are just so good together. This book definitely put a big smile on my face. Oh how I love the McCabe warriors *sigh* Now the agonizing wait for Caelen's story.

Maya Banks you've done a wonderful job in creating these beautiful characters, that I've grown to love, for that I thank you.

OMG OMG OMG!!! This book had me crying! I loved these two equally (that rarely happens to me), I loved Keeley so much, she loved Alaric, and more then once puts his needs and the needs of the clan before her own. All she wanted was to belong somewhere, and once she did, she was loyal to her clan.

I love Ewan McCabe but wow, this second book in the trilogy unbelievably topped first! The romance between Alaric and Keeley in Seduction of a Highland Lass develops swiftly, and it is hot and intense while at the same time absolutely gut wrenching because you know that there can be no future for them. On one hand you root for them to take the time they have to spend together but on the other you want them just to ignore the connection and save themselves the heartbreak that is sure to come in the end. Both Keeley and Alaric were strong, admirable characters and Alaric…well… dark, sexy and kilted…need I say more?
Maya Banks writing style is smooth and easily entrances you. I was sucked into this story right away; well, if I’m honest I was sucked into it in book one and it has yet to let go of me! There’s action and danger with the continuing story line of the evil and vicious Duncan Cameron, passion and tension between the main couple with swoon worthy loves scenes and dialogue, and all the characters that you loved from Never Love a Highlander appear enabling you to view their stories continue on which I adore in a series.
Forbidden love, one of the strongest heroines I have been introduced too and sexy, dominating (in a good way) men in kilts, Seduction of a Highland Lass is definitely a story that will hit you on all sides and if you’re not left with watery eyes then I will be surprised! I can't wait to see how it all ends in Never Love a Highlander; I think that one will be the best yet!

As much as I loved In Bed With A Highlander, I was hesitant to start this book. I loved Mairin, Ewan and Crispen.

At the end of In Bed With A Highlander, Alaric agreed to marry Rionna and become Laird of the MacDonald Clan; and that’s fine…but I didn’t want a story set in another place. I wanted spend more time with Mairin, Ewan, Crispen and the rest of the McCabe clan.

5 stars seems low in rating, that good was this story. A true love story, like few around these days. There are very few stories able to make me feel anything, specially cry. This was one of them. I cried almost through the whole ending of the book, the only thing that held me together was the knowledge that something good had to come out before the last story, I mean it couldn't have ended in tragedy, it just couldn't. I felt everything, all the emotions poured in the pages, the love, the hate, the anger and the friendship. I fell in love with Alaric, Caelen (who showed another side of himself) and the entire McCabe clan all over again. I hated McDonald fiercely and admired Keely like not many heroines I've read. Keely is what true heroines are made off, soft, yet strong. Maya Banks has another winner in this book, I could not put it down and devoured it in less than 6 hours. I cannot wait for the last installment, something tells me Caelen's story will be as great or even better.(less)

A great addition to the McCabe trilogy! I'm loving the fact that time isn't really passing from book to book...each book is pretty much starting off where the last one ended so it's like reading one huge book!

Really liked Alaric, a lot...and was very surprised to find out who his heroine was considering how things were set up in the first book. This turn of events definitely added to all the angsty and emotional moments and the last 15% was a crusher!!! I can now see why people labeled this one...more

Love, love, love this amazing Highlander series! I didn't think Ms. Banks would be able to top the first book, "In Bed With A Highlander," but she certainly has with "Seduction of a Highland Lass." I simply could not put this book down. I was just as enthralled and as delighted as I was with the first book in this series.

I read this book in one sitting on the beach last week. And I loved it. My only complaint is that the last few chapters ripped my heart out and I found myself with tears running down my cheeks--and did I mention I was on the beach?

I have liked a lot of Ms. Banks' previous books, but I really think she has a fantastic, fun, captivating historical voice. I'm just glad I don't have to wait too long to read the 3rd one, since the author keeps feeding my habit!

I must say that I don't get the titles of these books... The titles seem cheesy; this one particularly. One could think that there was very much seduction involved, but instead I felt much more love, angst and romance!

Another wonderful installment in the McCabe trilogy. I agree with most of the other reviewers that this book was wonderful, and a real page turner, and definitely a tear jerker. Somehow, even though I new there had to be a HEA, I really was starting to think that Keely was going to die, and I couldn't put the book down until I got past that part. I loved this story! Oh wow I just loved this novel. Banks is one of the best and most origional romance historical fiction novelists I've read so far and I've read quite a few novels that all seemed to be copies of one another. Great story. I especially loved the romantic conflict element of it. Unfortunately, I have a problem. I am no where near good enough to be writing a review for such a perfect book. I mean, seriously, I am unworthy. Here are some facts

2. I don't do series, and not back to back. There are some exceptions like Kresley Cole. And while i do read books in series, I usually never complete series.

I've read quite a few romances over the years. Most are good at letting the reader escape mundane reality for a while and rarely have anything in common with real life. Alpha type men just don't exist like they do in these stories and the women, nope, not them either. But they are fun so I decided to give it a try. And I'm so glad I did.

The second installment in Maya Banks new McCabe Trilogy is even better than the first book. In Bed with a Highlander, book one in the series was a fantastic book but when I read Seduction of a Highland Lass it took my breath away.

“I know you told me not to kiss you, lass, but I should warn you that I’ve never been good at taking directions.”

In the last book Alaric McCabe had agreed to marry Rionna McDonald so that their clans can form a sold alliance for the upcoming battle against Duncan Cameron. On his way to ask for her hand in marriage Alaric and his escort are ambushed; after suffering a deep wound in his side he realizes all of his men are dead and does the only thing he can do, he runs. Keeley an outcast of the McDonald clan is going about her daily tasks when a wounded warrior literally falls off his horse at her feet. While she is nursing him back to health the cottage is taken over by Ewan McCabe and his warriors. He gives her no choice in the matter and brings her back to his keep to further tend Alaric.

“’Tis unseemly for a man to have such beautiful hair,” she murmured. He levered up and scowled down at her. “ ’Tis unseemly to tell a man he has beautiful hair.”

I really felt sorry for Keeley, she’s had to suffer for a crime she didn’t commit and when the McCabe’s offer her a home she jumps at the chance to have a clan again. She also finds herself strangely attracted to Alaric but soon finds out he is to marry her childhood friend, so she is determined to keep her distance with Alaric much to his disappointment. He’s never met someone like Keeley but knows he can’t get attached to her because the weight of the McCabe clan is on his shoulders. However the attraction between them is impossible to fight and they soon find themselves sneaking into each other’s bed chambers every night. But when the time comes Alaric finds that giving up Keeley is one of the hardiest things he will ever have to do.

“My warrior,” she murmured. And he smiled. Aye, just as she was his angel.

I’ve loved Alaric since book one, he’s been my favorite and after reading this book I love him even more. This is fast becoming one of my favorite Highlander series of all time. Paranormal Romance lovers will adore this book!

Book two in Maya Banks' McCabe trilogy. Alaric McCabe is on his way to the neighboring clan to court his politically matched fiancee. He's waylaid when an attack along the journey nearly kills him. I thought book one was a good time, and book two was no different. I didn't know anything about it except that this was Alaric's story. I started it figuring this would be a tale of a husband wooing a reluctant wife - boy was I surprised. I liked Keeley as a heroine, but she didn't really rock my world. One thing she does have going for her - she's stubborn without being abrasive. I was a fan of Alaric from book two, so I was looking forward to seeing more of him this time around. I have to admit, though, my admiration has been saved mostly for the younger McCabe, Caelon, who has some dark and broody moments. Ya'll know how I like mah dark and broody men. *snort*

I enjoyed Seduction of a Highland Lass. I feel confident in recommending Banks' Scottish series to fans of the genre who are looking for something with a brogue but not over the top. Banks is skilled a writing a story that's intriguing, sexy and heartwarming. Overall, a lovely fluff read. In trews.

Wowsers!

I loved this book even more than the first book in the series, In Bed with a Highlander. The love story between Keeley and Alaric was endearing and made me teary-eyed a couple of times. As in the first book, I felt like reading one of those old-school romances from the 80s - men are real men here and women feisty but definitely feminine. I really like the wildness of the Highland men and the medieval atmosphere. The meetings between the lovers have a bittersweet taste to them because the hero's already engaged, which adds a lot of drama and sensuality.

The sex scenes are hot hot hot! (There was only one that felt a bit strange to me, don't want to spoil anything but it's where he says, "Breathe through your nose" - LOL!) Alaric surely loves to play the alpha in bed, but in a relationship he's a really sweet and loving guy. Loved the scene when he is possessive and goes all dominant on Keeley, who's loving every second of it. The dramatic scene near the end (again I won't spoil it for you), but it made me cry.

But the character most interesting to me is Caelen, I even fell a bit in love with him. Can't wait to read his story in Maya Banks' upcoming next book.

I thought a lot about what makes me like Maya Banks's books so much. She uses basic plots, but tells it so refreshingly vivid and dramatic that reading one of her books is a joy. Her writing is fluent and never ceases to entertain. There is humor, romance and action. She's also good at characterization, her heroines are stubborn and curageous, and ready to give their lives for the ones they love. The heroes are true wild Highlanders (yum) but also have a softer side to them which they don't show to everybody. The sex scenes are more erotic than in standard historical romances, but this is what I really liked; I want my romances to be steamy but loving. ;-)

There's only one thing I didn't understand - why on earth did the publisher use a short-haired male model for the cover (pretty as the cover is), when Maya Banks's highlanders have long, black, partly braided hair? I still don't understand why publishers don't care about such details - maybe they think readers are dumb and won't notice?

Anyway, great great book.

WOW. JUST WOW.

This book has reduced me to an emotional mess and I say that as a compliment.

Alaric and Keeley are just two special characters. Their story is somewhat bittersweet and so very satisfying in the end.

Alaric was to be wed to a neighboring clan for alliance purpose when he was suddenly injured and cared for by Keeley. He grew quite attached to her and was attracted to her from start to finish. Keeley on the other hand, is a woman who's shunned by others because of a lie. Of course...more

Shelves: favorites, drool-worthy-heros, kickass-females

Okay, I honestly don't even know where to begin because my emotions are still all over the place. I feel like this turned into me fangirling over this book, but I honestly don't care at this point because this book was amazing.

I've never been a fan of historical romance, at all. At least I never gave it much of a chance besides some young adult books I enjoyed, but beyond that my romance leaned heavily towards contemporary. I'm honestly glad Maya Banks and her highlander/scots stories were my first jump into the HR world, because these books honestly blew me away with just how amazing they were. I'm not entirely sure if it's the storyline, the world Maya Banks set up, or the characters that drew me in.

I happen to be a big fan of her KGI series, but even then I find myself annoyed from time to time by certain things the female characters do, so it was such a nice surprise and really refreshing to read kick ass females. I know the time period and setting called for the women to stick to doing 'woman's work', but my feminist sensibilities couldn't be too hurt because they were all still so badass in basically in charge anyways.

I also appreciated the respect they had for women in her historical series, so it was nice to see them respect them instead of having women pitted against each other for vapid reasons, or having one of those big guys lay a hand on a woman because she's just awfuuuuuuuul. It's such a common occurrence to have the vixen character who is an utter bitch that dares to make eyes at the hero, so these books were a nice change of pace in that regard. I wish authors realized the difference between making a female character awful for the sake of storyline and throwing in some really awesome jealously moments. Le sigh~

This book is probably my favorite out of the McCabe trilogy, and I feel like a lot of it had to do with how pure and gorgeous the love story was. Keeley was just so beyond perfect and adorable, just utter flawlessness throughout the entire story! Whether it's her being resourceful after being outcast from her own clan to standing up to Ewan and everyone else, Keeley remains an amazing character till the very end. She's incredibly brave and selfless and she owns it. SHE'S JUST PERFECT, OKAY?! I LOVE HER AND HER DAMN STRENGTH.

And Alaric? DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON HIM BECAUSE I CAN GO ALL DAY AND NIGHT. Okay, maybe I'll go on just a little bit because I mean it's ALARIC! He's charming and just...ugh. I don't even have the right words to describe how utterly hot and herotastic he is. Like, I literally can't find a good way to describe him. This is why I'm not an author and sit idly by reading. Just trust me when I say he will make you swoon and melt all at the same time, and damn if those sex scenes aren't beyond hot and gorgeous at the same time.

The love story between them is so beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. I don't think I've ever rooted so hard for HEA in a book before.

I also feel like I should give fair warning this book is a bit of a tearjerker! At least it made me grab my chest and heave out a bunch of tears at almost every chapter. I don't really usually leave reviews because I'm clearly so fantastic with words, but sometimes a book just grabs me and I have to leave one the second I finish. And Seduction of a Highland Lass is absolutely one of them.
