This is exactly the type of children's book that I usually don't like. The minimal, super big text is a turn off to me. For the most part I didn't even read that kind of book to Julia as a baby. Perhaps this is why she expects more wording in her books also.
I also want to touch on something else - another reviewer mentions the adults being "negative" in this story. I didn't get that impression at all. (I think most didn't if one can go by the other reviews.) A Mother saying, " More...

This book is very age appropiate and has a good amount of vocab words to explore such as exclaimed and amused. It also could be used to talk about contractions. First graders could journal about an experience they had cutting their own hair or a friends.
Kids love to do that.
The story itself was dry and poorly developed.
I was expecting more.

Couldn't have found a better book at a better time. My daughter decided to give herself a haircut yesterday. She said "Mom something happened to my bangs!"
Today I grabbed this book out of our library basket of books we had checked out to read. Gave the whole family a laugh. Glad to know my daughter isn't the only one.

A fun book with a surprising twist! I really enjoyed this simplistic story about a boy who just decides to wear a paper bag mask on his head all day. AMAZING PICTURES! This would make a great read-aloud!

Only one of almost a dozen grown-ups wasn't negative? I don't like it when authors assume it's only kids who can have insights. This didn't charm me, or make me giggle, or want to share it with a child. Sorry.

It's unclear why Josh is wearing a bag on his head...until the end of this story which shows him going through every motion in his day with a brown bag on his head!

I love this story! It's an awesome mentor text for my first graders--they totally get it!

I shouldn't have peeked at the ending! It was a good story anyway. My niece did the same thing. I liked the way the boy countered everyone's objections to his being able to function with a bag on his head. I'm surprised, though, that some of the kids at school didn't try to snatch the bag off his head, as curious kids would do. I liked Krosoczka's artwork, especially the way he drew the people, so I'm looking forward to reading more of his books.

I have a big stupid reader crush on Jarrett Kroscozka. His books are wonderful and silly and adorable. Baghead is the story of a boy who goes through the day with a bag on his head, yet he performs every task with ease. No, it's not because he forgot his report and tried to get out of it. No, it's not because he doesn't want to eat. Why? Read and see!

This is such a fun book--of course, I work at an elementary school--the author came to our school-met with each grade--talked about how long it took to get his first book published--he is easily the best author we have had at our school in how he related to the children.. His drawings are wonderful--look for him to win the Caldecott Medal soon.

Holden loved this book. He memorized it for a reading event at Kesterson Elementary School and recited it. He was able to meet the author twice. Once at school and once at a library presentation. He was able to get his book autograhed. It was so good for him to get inspired by an author.

A fun story that I think little boys will love and mommies will not. Josh discovers all the things he can do with a bag on his head, and eventually his family discovers he is wearing it because he tried to give himself a haircut. His sister's solution is a great ending to the book.

I cut out and made paper "bagheads" for my preschoolers & their storytime today. Something like this: http://thejjkblog.blogspot.com/2010/01/b... There are some great coloring pages for the book on Jarrett Kosoczka's website here: http://www.studiojjk.com/

Baghead reminded me of Robert Munsch's books, but without the hilarious illustrations that accompany Munsch's books. Still a fun book to read.

The story flows along with such fun and folly that you almost forget that their is a boy with a bag on his head. It is not to be missed!

Mr. Krosoczka's stuff is just so dang good. And what's great, there was a paperback version available at the bookshop for only $6.99. Yippee!

My students had fun making predictions about why the bag was on Josh's head.
