This is the first book by Ms. Brown I've read so far and I was pleasantly surprised by how it turned out. These "first reads" are hit and miss and this one was definitely a hit.

This is probably the 10th Sandra brown book I have read this month and you think by now I would be getting sick of them. I'll acknowledge that there are many common or formulated elements in her writing such a a murder, the heroine is usually under suspicion for the murder and the male lead is often an investigator of sorts. However even acknowledging this I still can't help but love them. I think I have already said in previous reviews how Sandra brown is a bit of a guilty pleasure and a pleasu...more
Who would have thought that doing your civic duty and serving on a jury would put you in danger? Dr. Rennie Newton served on a jury who under her leadership and thoroughness decides to acquit a contract killer, Ricky Lozado. Unfortunately, as a vain man with a very large ego, Lozado has decided that he was aquited because Dr. Newton likes him.

I listened to the unabridged audiobook narrated by Tom Wopat. Yes, that Tom Wopat...from "The Dukes of Hazzard". Kind of a surprising choice of reader for what is essentially a romantic suspense/thriller, but let me say, he does a very good job. His female voices could have been better, but I think that is probably true of most male readers. I don't mind so much when the female characters in the book don't say a ton, but in this book Rennie has a significant amount of lines and his vo...more

Lozada has a crush on Newton and follows her around, deciding the get rid of any obstacles in his way, literally. Meanwhile, Wick Threadgill is asked to investigate the doctor since they think she is behind the murder of a colleque. Threadgill also has a personal vengeance against Lozada. A reall sick love triangle thing happening here. There is also a little eback story about Newt...more

whooaaa, one of the best favorite books. The story is about love triangle Dr. Newton, Wick and Lozada. But hold on, Lozada is a criminal and stalker to Dr. Newton. Wick is a good policeman who pursues Lozada. Lozada love Dr. Newton because of she give a vote that help Lozada free from accusation in the court, maybe as love at the first sight. I love this book because Wick is different from the other character men in Sandra Brown. On the contrary, the cool character is found in the woman, Dr.Newt...more
I haven't read Sandra Brown in awhile (no reason, just haven't made my way back to her). This was a good one! Dr. Rennie Newton is the foreman on the jury that acquits notorious killer for hire Ricky Roy Lozada for the murder of some unknown person. The jury felt he most likely had done it, but the state had not proven the case beyond a reasonable doubt. Within days, a professional rival of Rennie's is brutally murdered and she has an unwanted admirer. Wick Threadgill, a detective on personal le...more
Dr. Rennie Newton is on the jury that acquits Ricky Lozada, a hit man who keeps getting away with murder. During the trial, Ricky constantly eyes the beautiful, never-married Rennie, a workaholic surgeon dedicated to saving lives. Soon after Lozada’s release, he kills Rennie’s colleague who had been recently appointed to chief of surgery, a position Rennie expected. Lozada did it because he has a crush on Rennie. The cops think Rennie hired him.

Dime novel with a stalker/thriller element thrown in. I actually spotted some punctuation errors in here. Also? Every so often, Brown has a way of writing some very confusing sentences, to the point you have no idea what's going on in a scene. There were some parts of the book where I had to go back and reread things again and again, just to understand who was doing or saying what.

When Dr Rennie Newton is summoned to jury duty, little does she realise that her compulsion to return a not guilty verdict in the trial of notorious killer Ricky Lozada, might prove the most regrettable decision of her life...[return][return]It's a bit unclear how quick after the trial this story starts (you only find out a 3rd of the book in that it's about 2 weeks), this is a reasonable detective/stalker/stalkee story, with the usual romance & sex thing thrown in.[return][return]Decent exa...more
Well, this fared much better this time around. More 3.75 stars - which is miles better than the one-star DNF it was when I read it back when it was published.
I didn't enjoy it as much as the later SBs because the plot, while intriguing, didn't pan out as good. I found Rennie hard to warm up to and Oren, Wick's partner before the latter took his "indefinite leave" from the For Worth police dept, was a pain in the bum. He may have Wick's interests at heart and so constantly harps on Wick's behavio...more

This suspense novel reads more like a Harlequin Romance gone worse (I didn't say "bad" because they are already bad). Laced with only-to-be heard in smaltzy movie one liners, the book is so predictable from the first chapter that you may actually think there is a twist at the end (there isn't). Crush is about a relationship between the broken cop and a troubled trauma surgeon and their banning together to fight an evil killer. It's kind of like a Bugs Bunny episode without the humor and animatio...more

Brown's books are starting to be so alike, it is hard to know if they were read before or they are just similar to another of her books. In this book Wick's detective brother was killed by a hit man. Wick is called in by his former partner, Oren to tried to solve the murder of a doctor. Rennie, a doctor, is thought to have hired the hit man by Oren, but Wick doesn't believe it. The killer gets a crush on Rennie who has many problems. Good book, but similar to Brown's other books.

This was pretty good...I figured out the ending before we got there, but it was still a good listen.
I'm pretty sure they never actually resolved the crime that was the thread at the start of the story, but I assume we all know who did it.
I wasn't bored with this but I also didn't find myself sitting in my car for twenty minutes trying to finish the disc I was listening to. It had been a while since I had read some Sandra Brown...I remember the last one being a bit more suspenseful, so I hope the...more

Well, the idea of a stalker, a rough cop and an introvert doctor was good. But it could have been written better.
It was a little immature in some parts, like for instance where Wick and the doctor had to pretend to be lovers, (when they actually have a mutual attraction) so that they can get hold of the stalker guy Lozada. Well, not one of her best works. But it was interesting nevertheless. All said and done, it is a good read on a lazy day.

This is the second book by Sandra Brown I've read, and whilst I enjoyed his one as much as the previous one, I can see a pattern emerging. There's a the strong, independent woman who is suddenly targeted violent man. This man kills someone who is close to the woman, involving the police. Our other main character, a former cop with a disregard for the rules, who is often quire vulgar but still an attractive womaniser. Whilst they cross paths trying to find the killed, love ensues.

I was really struggling to get into this book but I persevered, about page 115 (normally I would have given up by this point) it started to get interesting and then I couldn't put it down. I ended up enjoying the plot and the characters but I feel the struggle I had initially had to overcome was not justified. I will try and read the other book (Ricochet) that I was sent along with this one to see if it is any easier.

The Crush is a very predictable romance/stalker/suspense/mystery kinda novel, so it's easy to leave your brain behind and just escape into the story. It does have its fair share of cringey/cheesy moments which add to the silliness of it, but it's simple to enjoy if you don't think too much about it. Great escapism if you happen to be reading heavy political texts this week!

A police detective, his friend an ex cop team up to catch a seirial killer. A surgeon who was leading the jury the acquitted the killer for lack of conviencing evidence is thought to be a prime suspect becomes the subject of the killers stalking and the ex cop is intent on catching the killer who he is sure killed his brother. Lots going on in this one. Oh and if you do audio books, no children within ear shot..
Sandra Brown is one of my favorite authors. She has a smooth writing style that moves along and very rarely has drawn out sections. This book was no exception. The plot was about an obsessive stalker chasing a woman doctor. There are some surprises but much of it is predictable. It is enjoyable reading but definitely not the best Sandra Brown novel.
5-disc CD set read by Tom Wopat. Great job by Mr. Wopat. OK story, nothing great, but keeps your interest. Some background music would have made it more enjoyable. I've listened to other recorded mysteries that have suspenseful music or mood music for the scene, I think it adds a lot... a few sound effects is always a nice touch too.
Wick and Oren have a strong desire to nab Loazado, a professional murderer, who thinks he is unattainable. When the lovely surgeon ADR. Newton who has lived a dramatic youth enters the plot, the complications thicken. And then there is the obsession of the murderer with the doctor and Wick's growing passion as well.
I enjoyed this book, it had a great story but does every flipping thriller novel have to have so much sex? I mean really. We get that they are in a relationship and such but if I wanted to read about the details I would pick up a harlequin. I hate when authors add a lot of sex because 'sex sells'. Well, not to me.
This book had a good pace; interesting enough for me to finish it in about 24 hours. It's not really a mystery because you know the bad guy from the very beginning. But the events and characters are engaging enough to make the ride enjoyable. The end had a nice twist, although I eventually figured it out before the final showdown.
