Rory is absolutely broken when Kane leaves him tied up in a club. He’s gone the lowest he can go mentally, and his levels of trust are zero. Kane was supposed to love him, to be the perfect Dom but instead was a monster intent on using Rory in any way he saw fit. Kane played on Rory’s kind nature, his submissiveness, and I hated the man with a vengeance. What he did to Rory was inexcusable, but these things go on in life, and I had my eyes opened wide.

Gabriel Stark (magnificent name!), a man int...more

I stayed up late/early morning reading this. It was a very interesting book. I could see it working well for a lot of readers. It just didn't work well for me.

This is one of those times where after reading the book that I KNOW that it's a strong 3 (I didn't love it, nor do I have the desire to read it again, but it was a GOOD book) and yet, I struggle to articulate why exactly it didn't work for me.

I've said before that alternating 1st person POV is difficult to pull off. That's because when usi...more

This is the second book in "Tales from Rainbow Alley" (the first book is Hotwired Heart, where the main two guys, Rolly and Marky do make an appearance) -- although it can read as stand alone.

Young manga artist Rory Sanders realizes that he is a submissive and he is dying to be a good one. Unfortunately, he falls to the wrong guy, because Kane (the one who Rory submits to) only wants to give him pain, out of revenge. Gabriel "Gabe" Stark, is a private investigator who wants to put Kane behind ba...more

Very, very different than the first book in the series. Darker, violent, more in depth. I was much more involved in this one than the last, and I wanted to rate this one much higher, but the pacing was just too weird for me.
The part this book skips is a whole book unto itself - although I'm not complaining about the author's sensibility when it comes to this. I've read waaay too many m/m books where one of the characters is raped or abused or violently beaten, and two minutes later they are roll...more

This is one of the most difficult reviews I’ve ever had to write because I find it very hard to make up my mind whether I liked the book or if I hated it. It was also one of the most difficult books I ever read, and while the story was good, the emotions intense and the characters believable, I cannot truly say that I enjoyed it.

Let me begin at the beginning. Rory is a sub who is desperately looking for a Dom, but trusts the wrong man and ends up totally abused by Kane. Not just physically, but...more

Oh what a lovely D/s book - even though Rory has to go through a couple of harrowing experiences before he gets his HEA.

Gabriel is one helluva Dominant, and some of his "orders" really made me shiver. He is patient, and kind, and has, I think, a quirky sense of humour which comes across only at odd times - but that makes him quite wonderful.

This is a well written story, building the trust between Rory and Gabe, and showing that not only is Gabe infallible like most humans, but that Rory has hidd...more

I have read this series 3 times now & although I rate the series 5 stars overall, I will only read this book out of the series from now on...not because the other books are bad, but because I find the themes to dark & disturbing. Having said that, I don't want to scare others off from the series because it is well written & the characters are vividly portrayed...it's just that books 1 & 3 strike an uncomfortable cord in me which makes the reading experience more disturbing than e...more

As the second book in the Tales from the Rainboy Alley, this was a lot more than I was expecting after Hotwired Heart. First, it's double the length of that story. And it's not an easy read. People get hurt. There are bad people out there. This isn't for the faint of heart - not like it's as graphic as Anchored or anything, but it's tough when someone is abused.

I'm not going to "recap" the story on this one - you can get that from the book blurb. I will say that this book made me FEEL the chara...more

It started off okay, but then it got melodramatic...
And then once again, it became too means-to-and-end.
I still can't quite get a handle on the characters' personalities. It's like the author kind of had an idea of what she wanted to go for, but couldn't quite get there...or tried too hard to make her characters too likable, and thus, made them annoyingly Mary-Sue-ish or confusingly inexplicable.

3,5 Stars. Better than it's prequel. Would have been 4 stars if the ending hadn't left me unsatisfied (view spoiler)[ Rory's sudden turn for the better didn't work for me, probably because his recuperation was only mentioned in passing (hide spoiler)]
One of few books where I found H/C and BDSM in one book worked.

I liked this book less than book 3 in the series. Haven't read book 1, but that didn't bother me.

Another interesting take, liked the general idea and the writing was good. Just nothing special and some minor details annoyed me a bit.

A good, solid read though.

I liked the characters, I was fine with the alternating POVs, but we went from a climactic (and brutal) attack on Rory to "Epilogue: one year later", which was not an epilogue at all, it was just a way of skipping a whole bunch of story and leapfrogging to the HEA.

I t was a very interesting mystery story with a BDSM theme. Some part were a little boring but then again the story got me hard.
Some scenes are dense to read but it makes the book better !
Now what about Jimmy ?

Really like these guys and this series. More? :)

Excellent!

Good kinky m/m romance about a guy who's inexperienced about bdsm and trusts the wrong Dom, who basically abuses him. This book would've worked better for me if it hadn't been told in first-person, alternating between three different people. Also, stalker alert! :)

With most of the hours in the day taken up by a part time job and the full time occupation of raising and schooling two kids, writing is somewhat of an indulgence, but it's the indulgences that keep us sane, right? When not otherwise occupied, like most writers, reading is my relaxation method of choice, and you can find my reviews at Kuriousity.com and Dark Diva Reviews to let you know what I lik...more
