3.5 stars. An enjoyable read, and possibly the best in the series. Lord Gabriel Sharpe made a great hero type, rough around the edges but not too full of himself. Virgina was likable heroine and a good match for Gabe. This was a fun, steamy, light historical romance.

So, I must warn you that it has been awhile since I read/listened to this book. I say this because, some of the details would be a little blurry, but overall, I enjoyed this book. Which seems to NOT be the common opinion.

So this is the 4th book, following the wild lord Gabriel Sharpe, who by now, we have grown to love. He wears all black because he believes he's the Angel of Death and that anyone he touches would die (load of baloney, I know). 7 years ago, his best friend died in a race with him...more So, I must warn you that it has been awhile since I read/listened to this book. I say this because, some of the details would be a little blurry, but overall, I enjoyed this book. Which seems to NOT be the common opinion.

So this is the 4th book, following the wild lord Gabriel Sharpe, who by now, we have grown to love. He wears all black because he believes he's the Angel of Death and that anyone he touches would die (load of baloney, I know). 7 years ago, his best friend died in a race with him and now his younger sister wants revenge (sorta). Virginia Waverly, our heroine, has grown up thinking Gabriel as the reason her brother died (not really murderer status, but pretty close), so when she finally meets the man face to face, she challenges him to a race. All Gabriel wants to do is get married to her so he can help satisfy his grandmother's ultimatum and give back to his dead best friend. Neither of the expected to fall in love (though we did, considering its a HR and all).

I enjoyed Gabriel Sharpe when he wasn't emo. He was naturally easy going, with just a bit of a dark stain in his reputation to make him dangerous. The end part, where he's working hard to win over Virginia - that was so yummy. I love hard(working) guys.

Virginia wasn't a bad heroine either. She was easy to relate to and a bit of a wild streak waiting to happen, but sadly, she was not very memorable. Still, she had her moments matching up to Gabriel and being a cute horny heroine who watches her man muck the stables without his shirt on.

I don't remember Virginia's cousin's name, but he was a really memorable character to me. Kinda reminded me of Lord Stoneville but dandier. He gets his own book, but I would love to see him get a tough no-nonsense heroine to shape him up.

So, overall, it was a fun book. It wasn't the best or anything, and I feel like parts of the book, I've read/seen somewhere else, but Ms. Jeffries always does a good job mixing humor and romance, so it didn't really matter. There was a secondary romance for Hetty Plumtree, which was weird. Not that old people falling in love is weird, just that these two did. Anyway, I'll stop shooting myself in the foot and let you all enjoy this book. (less)

Gabe 7 yıl önce bir kazada en yakın arkadaşının ölümüne karışmış ve bu sayede Waverly ailesinin düşmanlığını kazanmıştır. Virginia kardeşinin ölümünün intikam duygusuyla Gabe'e yarış teklifinde bulunurken Gabe'in aklında çok farklı bir teklif vardır. Tabi olaylar aslında burada başlıyor. Virginia'nın büyükbabası ve kuzeninin dahil olduğu olaylar kitabın sonuna kadar çok eğlenceliydi. Bunun yanı sıra Ölüm Meleği Gabe'in aşka adım adım yaklaşmasına da bayıldım. İstediğinde oldukça romantik olabiliyormuş :D

Bir de bence bu serinin yıldızlarından biri olan büyükanneleri Hetty vardı ki ona bayıldım. İki yaşlı kurdun atışmaları ve flörtleşmeleri çok güzeldi.

Asında 5 kardeş ama bu sene içinde yazılan bir kitap daha var ki onun kahramanı da kitabı okuyunca tanıyacağınız kuzen Pierce. İlk başlarda kötü karakter mi diye düşünsem de Gabe'e inat gitmesini çok komikti. Bir sonraki kitapta daha çok yer alacağını düşündüğüm Pierce'in kitabı da umarım bizde çıkar.

Son olarak çevirinin çok güzel olduğunu söylemek istiyorum. Zaten çevirilerini beğendiğim bir çevirmendi ve gönül rahatlığıyla okudum. Yazarı ve seriyi sevenlerin beğeneceğini düşündüğüm kitabı rahatlıkla tavsiye edebilirim. Giderek güzelleşiyor seri ve sanırım sonuncu kardeşte beni hayal kırıklığına uğratmayacak. Hem şu gizemi çözelim artık değil mi :D(less)

This is not a review, just a little rant regarding those romance novels that i have read so far that have some of the aspects that i found so irritating in this particular book.

First of all i must say that all the books that i have read so far by Mrs Jeffies were quite good and i have enjoyed them enough.That was not the case with this particular one. First of all i must say that all the books that i have read so far by Mrs Jeffies were quite good and i have enjoyed them enough.That was not the case with this particular one. I didn't feel that i was reading a historical romance but a contemporary one.Yes, i know that it's a romance but still. Secondly, i have a thing with authors who try to portray the heroines of historical romances like precocious Lara Crofts just because, you know, if men can do it women can do it better and God forbbits we imply the opposite and offend the feministic sensibilities of our readers.I also find it quite disgusting when the writter deals with a family series and suddenly all the family of the hero turns againt him or scold him for endangering the poor little heroine because the men, as we know, must be those who are always stupid and make irrational mistakes and decisions that endager the stweet, loving, albeit kick ass-Lara Croft heroine, while the heroines are always in the right. (and i'm refering to the stupid carriage race where the hero HAD to win ONLY because he was reckless and risking his and the heroine's life and the heroine lost just because she had to back down in order to protect them both from his impulsivness and stupidity. Never mind that it was she who chalenged him.)

You know authors, some time is not a bad thing to say or writte that a hero may be better than the heroine in something and that he won because he was better and not becuase the nature, the fate,the society, the universe and his recklessness and stupidity conspired to impede the otherwise, perfet and better heroine from winning.

So yeah, i didn't like the book. I don't like when the authors, and i have seen this a lot in the romances, try to make one gender look better than the other in order to suttisfy the targer audience of the particular genre.I don't think is right (and i'm not refering particularly to this book but to all those books that i have recently read and disliked) to render the hero a buffoon, unable to think or act or make a rational decision in order to highlight and demonstrate the superiority of the heroine. Βalance is the key. This is my opinion anyway, since i read the romance for both the hero and heroine. Anyway, i guess i had a lot of free time when writting this rant. Feels good to get it out of your chest. Ouf!(less)

This is my least favorite of the series. There was little character development of the Sharpe sibling, Gabriel. While he worked through guilt for his best friend's death, you really didn't get much of a sense of his epiphany or it was not nearly as well earned as his other siblings. I just started to read this author's works after reading the short story The French Maid. It was sweet and then, I started to read the Hellions' series. I liked Gabe best of the siblings, and I liked Virginia. The turn of her emotions, from blaming Gabe for her brother's death to falling in love with him, was well paced and made sense.

What a ride!

Anyone who has been following the series will be intrigued by the hints and hazy clues revealed in the beginning of the book. It touches on the overall story arc that is being woven through all of the standalone books in the series. To Wed a Wild Lord is definitely a book that a new reader can get into without fear of feeling lost or uninformed. Everything needed to understand both the underlying mystery and the current turbulent relationship between Gabriel and Virginia is well presented in a natural manner, as though hearing about it for the first time. Yet there is enough there to whet a reader’s appetite to perhaps go back and read the ones that came before. It’s worth it.

In this installment, I got to know what makes Virginia tick and that she’s not so adverse to Gabriel’s attentions, in spite of all the naysayers. I enjoyed how she got carried away with passion and had to face some truths about herself and her motivations.

Gabriel is known as the Angel of Death. It’s a cover that he hides behind but it’s not until he becomes truly serious about Virginia that he figures out what he’s been doing and running from all these years. The journey to when he gets to that part is at times nerve wracking, humorous, sentimental and frustrating. He’s a very conflicted man … until he finally realizes what is important in life. It’s at that point when things get really interesting – when Gabriel faces the greatest challenge of his life – to win Virginia’s love.

The biggest roadblock to the protagonists happy ever after isn’t so much their own internal conflicts, but the web of lies and assumptions that rise up from the past to deal hefty emotional blows. Jealousy and spite from others try to poison their happiness from the beginning, but it turns out that Virginia isn’t a weak minded woman nor is Gabriel that far gone in his quest to run from his demons. They eventually find the strength they need to persevere in each other and together, solve and put to rest something that has haunted both their lives for years. It’s tragic and heartfelt, but healing too.

Secondary characters abound to help keep the plot moving and the hero and heroine motivated. My favorite is Gabriel’s manipulative grandmother, Hetty. There’s a little letter from her in the beginning of the book. After I was done reading, I went back and re-read it -- and laughed. There was a hint in there about a possible love interest that was so subtle I missed it. I found it endearing when I realized just whom it might be about. And I know I’m going to enjoy seeing what Ms. Jefferies is going to do about that. Other characters are not so sanguine and brought about some light but effective drama.

The happy ever after is sweet and so satisfying. To Wed a Wild Lord is sheer delight and a romance that hits all the high notes to perfection. It was riveting to the point that I read it in one sitting – a true page turner. Why? Because I so enjoyed Gabriel and Virginia falling in love and the author kept me guessing as to what it was going to take to make the hero see the light – the light of his life. The story embraces romance at its best and was a treat to read. Pick up a copy and see for yourself.

I was genuinely enthralled by this novel and really liked it through most of the plot. I loved Gabe and thought he was the perfect angst-ridden leading man and liked Virginia a lot. I really enjoyed Pinter and what I assume was foreshadowing for his and Celia's story in the last book. It is fascinating to watch the family slowly putting together the pieces of their parents' murder case. Since she’s quite wealthy and the principal source of their income, her grandchildren are less than thrilled with her threats. To Wed a Wild Lord focuses on the fourth of her grandchildren, Lord Gabriel Sharpe.

Ever since Gabriel’s best friend died in a horse race against him over seven years ago, Gabriel has been known as the Angel of Death for his ability to cheat Death in daring races. But no one outside his family knows that he’s wrought with guilt over Roger Waverly’s death. One of the reasons I enjoyed this novel so much is that both Gabriel and Virginia are rational adults and act in reasonable ways. Yes, Virginia is spirited, but unlike many “spirited” heroines I’ve read elsewhere, she doesn’t act rashly. She challenges Gabriel to a race, but she’s an experienced handler of the reins and believes that she has a legitimate chance of winning. Gabriel is also an appealing hero, as he’s clearly an honorable man who deeply regrets foolish mistakes he made years ago. We learn that his racing is actually motivated by his interests in thoroughbred racing, which gives his character depth that wasn’t apparent in earlier novels.

I also enjoyed the secondary characters in the novel. It’s difficult to revisit couples from prior books in series without distracting the new reader from the current couple, but Ms. Jeffries manages just the right balance between time spent with Gabriel’s family and that with Virginia. It was also a pleasant surprise to see Lady Hetty and General Waverly spark a late-life romance, and the author gives us hints about Lady Celia Sharpe’s romance in the next book, which I’m certainly looking forward to reading.

My biggest concern has to do with the mystery surrounding Gabriel’s parents. This might be the one aspect of the novel that will confuse new readers, because they won’t have all the background concerning the investigation that we’ve learned in earlier books. We do learn about Gabriel’s parents' murders in the prologue, and several times throughout the novel the investigation continues. However, there doesn’t seem to be any resolution in sight, nor is the mystery as integral to the plot of this book as it was in several of the other novels in the series. I’m interested to see how this part of the overarching storyline plays out in the series finale, but it seemed almost more of a distraction in this book than in others.

That said, I highly recommend To Wed a Wild Lord. Ms. Jeffries is an artful storyteller, and the romance between Virginia and Gabriel is charming. This book, along with many of her others, will definitely be added to my keeper shelf.(less)

To Wed a Wild Lord is about Gabriel Sharpe. He is known throughout the ton as the Angel of Death due to his wild and reckless racing which resulted in his friend, Roger Waverly's death during a particular dangerous race. Gabriel decides rather than fight his grandmother he will fall in with her plans. Not only for his family but also to make amends to the woman who lost her brother while racing Gabriel. But Lady Virginia Waverly wants nothing to do with Gabriel Sharpe who she feels is responsible for her brothers death. Except for one thing, for him to accept her challenge to race her at the same course that her brother died so she can destroy his reputation by beating and humiliating.

I really found the story of Gabriel and Lady Virginia quite exciting and intriguing. They start off as adversaries due to the death of Virginia's brother and the part Gabriel played in his death. But with the charming Gabriel in intent on making amends to Virginia and determined to get her to see him as something other than the man responsible for her brother’s death the story gets more and more entertaining. I greatly enjoyed the interactions between the two characters. Despite their initial feelings about each other they grew to deeply care for one another. I especially liked how they must each deal with their feelings about Roger's death and their developing feelings for each other.
But not only are the characters fascinating. The mystery behind the death of the Sharpe’s parents also draws the reader in. I really enjoyed this part of the novel and find this whole storyline very intriguing and compelling and can't wait for the final novel in the series to discovery the truth about their parents deaths.

Overall, I greatly loved To Wed A Wild Lord and found it full of mystery and with great lovable characters. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who loves Regency romance with great charm. I think this series is one of the best I've ever read.

Gabe tells his grandmother he can’t die, in a race or otherwise, because he is “the Angel of Death.” She, of course, doesn’t have a clue what that means and only ascribes it to his impetuous nature. He truly believes he was the one who should have died in place of his parents, something to do with a mysterious stranger who arrived at his home and took one of the family horses out the same day his parents died. He believes that insults and a coincidence of events led to his losses and that he is cheating death over and over and over.

It is Virginia Waverly who throws all of Gabe’s rational explanations to the wind little by little, that is until she hears a rumor that he is wooing her only for purposes of an inheritance he can only have upon being married. Another character, General Waverly, calls him out on his guilt about Roger’s death. The provocative banter, wildly sexy scenes, and funny moments increase in various stages until one can feel the tension in more ways than one with every turned page!

By now the passion between Gabe and Virginia is searing in intensity, attracting these two volatile characters to the point where Gabe realizes he must abandon all the machinations and woo for real! He must enter a race to win a great, passionate love beyond what words can convey! As always, Sabrina Jeffries tintilates and thrills the reader with both a mystery about to be solved and hot, steamy, sexy connection that must be fulfilled in order to finally cheat death for one last time! This fourth story is even better than Ms. Jeffries’s previous novels in the Hellions of Halstead Hall series.

Even though Gabe felt incredibly guilty for losing his best friend that fateful day all those years ago, it certainly did not curb his wild activity with the racing. It took me a long time in To Wed a Wild Lord to understand why he would continue to be a daredevil and continue to race so carelessly. Even after it was fully explained, I just didn't buy it. Sabrina Jeffries did a great job explaining Gabe's reasons through Virginia's voice, but I still just didn't buy it.

Virginia and Gabe had great chemistry on the pages. They are totally a great match and it was lovely reading how Gabe tried to win her hand. I liked Gabe and he would have won me over a long time before it took Virginia but with the heavy blame she still placed on Gabe. It made for a great obstacle and book conflict. Well Virginia's grandfather was a pretty heavy obstacle as well.

Of the Hellion series so far, I found Gabe's romance the most swoon-worthy of the brothers. There is a hay loft scene that was simply romantic as it was lusty. The added touch that Gabe walked around dressed completely in black, firmly cementing his Angel of Death persona, just made him that much sexier to me. No wonder the women were crazy for him. But the best thing was that I didn't necessarily get the impression that Gabe was the rake his brothers were. He'd rather hang out with his horses.

The mystery continues along the series and it got even more interesting in To Wed a Wild Lord. More and more secrets are uncovered and I haven't a clue at this point who could have killed the Sharpe sibling's parents. I have some light speculation but really, I'm grasping. I love that Celia's book is last and the Bow Street Runner, Mr. Pinter seems to be the potential match in A Lady Never Surrenders so I am happy to start the book next. I am sure I will feel some sort of withdrawal once the series is done as I've come to really like the Sharpe family and their spouses.

Virginia Waverly has hated Gabriel Sharpe since the death of her brother. She's blamed him for encouraging a drunk man to race and has waited for the day for his wicked ways to catch up with him. In an attempt to prove to him that he's not as good as he thinks he is, she challenges him to a race. What she doesn't count on is his stipulation to the race: if he wins, he can court her. If she wins, they'll race again on the track that cost her brother his life. Can she win against the Angel of Death when he pulls out all the stops?

I adored both these characters. Victoria was a strong woman who has made the most out of the cards she's been dealt. She runs her grandfather's house and help with his stud farm without complaining. She figures this is the best it's going to get, she'll make the best out of it. While she's hated Gabriel because of her brother's death, she's not so blinded by that hate to figure out that Gabriel may not be the person she thinks he is. She was able to admit when she was wrong about him and admit that she wasn't truly happy with how she had been living either. Once Gabriel points that out to her, she realizes that he's the only person that truly see her.

Gabriel is one of those characters you want to shake to knock some sense into him, hug to soothe all that hurts him and jump on to have your wicked way with him all at once. He's wonderfully complex and makes you want to dig through his layers to get to the squishy center. He carries the weight of the insecurities that have developed since the death of his parents and the guilt of having a hand in the death of this best friends. He fears love because everything he loves is stripped away from him. It takes a strong woman to stand up to him and show him it's ok to let go of the past and look forward.

In addition to Gabe and Victoria's story, we delve deeper into the mystery of the death of the Sharpe parents. Seems something wicked was afoot at Halstead Hall nineteen years ago. Can't wait for the completion of that sub-plot in Celia's story.(less)

So she challgenes him to race the same course, and if she won he was to admit to killing her brother and stop using the name Angel of Death. The only way to get him to accept her challage is race home in a tamer course, if shevwinsvthebthreadbthe needle, if he win - the only downside, or is it? - he gets to court her and try to win her hand.
As with all Ms. Jeffries books, this story fun of regency fun, and a spitfire heroine who gives her hero a run for his money, or his heart. This time in Miss Waverly's grandfather, Cornel Waverly, Hetty finds a man that wakes her senses like none since her late husband. All around Good read, must have you are reading the Hellionsnof Halstead Hall, if not, a great book by itself.(less)

The more I read of Sabrina Jeffries, the more I like. This is part of her Halstead Hall Hellions series and it may be, at this point, my favorite of the family.

Granted, the only other I have read is The Truth About Lord Stoneville but I still really loved the characters of this book.
