13 Tales of Twisted Faeries on the Dark Side. These are dirty, sticky and sweet stories, beautifully crafted and filled with alluring romance, heart-stopping danger, magic, and dark intrigue. These are modern, urban, 'tattooed' stories, not retellings of fairy tales, about beautiful, dangerous fey, or fairies and the mortals who hunger for them.

The shelf should be "will-never-ever-read-in-case-of-projectile-vomiting".

Oh, we've all heard the story about this one. I love how it got a lower rating than Mein Kampf. The controversy surrounding this refers to the incident in which Trisha Telep tried to force Jessica Verday (an author I love) to change the homosexual romance in her story to a heterosexual one. Jessica valiantly refused and withdrew her entry from the book.

Score 600 for Jess!

There was that blog post by Jess, which Telep repl...more

Yeah, no anthologies edited by Telep for me. I like love stories, regardless of character orientation, and asking an author to make the m/m couple a m/f couple because you're avoiding "alternative sexuality" does not fly with me.

Update: 4/4/11

I have mixed feeling about wanting to read this. Apparantly the publisher didn't want any gay stories in it.
See Jessica Verday's blog post for more information.

Brenna Yovanoff pulled back her story as well. So did Lesley Livingston.
I wonder who will be in the book after all :P

Dia Reeves shared her opinion on the topic here.

As other reviewers have pointed out, the editor Trisha Telep tried to get Jessica Verday to change the sexuality of her characters. After Verday refuses and pulls out, Lesley Livingston and Brenna Yovanoff pull out their stories as well, supposedly in support of Verday's decision. The controversy that ensued caused the cancellation of this anthology's publication. Telep could have backed off in favor of embracing views different from her own, but unfortunately she did not. The publisher could ha...more

Sadly, I will not be reading this or anything else Telep has edited. Jessica Verday's blog for more info.

Okay. I just read some of the reviews for this book, and i know know why this is not going to be published.

All i have to say to Trisha is this:

That is soooooo not right. I've never sworn in a review before- but what you've just done has made me want to. Because this is bullshit! THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH GAY PEOPLE! They are just like us and you do not dis people because of there sexuality. They can like whoever that want and you have no say in it. End of story. This is not your choice and I...more

Literally five seconds ago I found about this book and the controversy surrounding it, and I simply couldn't fight the urge to share my own thoughts about it, no matter how patchy, muddled or slighty squiffy they may be.

Dumbed down to the bare bones, one of the authors, Jessica Verday, pulled out of the anthology because the editor asked her to change her story of romance between two boys to a heterosexual romance. Verday refused and pulled out, and I don't think I will ever be able to put it i...more

Recommended to AlbertaJenn by: Very few, actually.
Not comfortable with an editor comparing a story about gay teens with stories containing "explicit sex" (Telep's comment from Jessica Verday's blog: http://jessicaverday.blogspot.com/201...)

Not sure if I will be reading the anthologies I own edited by Telep; I like many of the authors, but do not like this decision.

To be fair, I probably would never have read this book anyway. The description that "these are dirty, sticky and sweet stories, beautifully crafted and filled with alluring romance, heart-stopping danger, magic, and dark intrigue" made me roll my eyes so hard that they almost fell out of my head.

BUT.

Having just learned of a certain amount of crazy wtf-what-century-do-we-live-in drama that surrounds this book and its subsequent cancellation, I can happily put it on my Never To Read shelf and go b...more

I am very excited about this book, and I applaud Telep for not permitting P.C. - ness to intervene with her vision of the types of works she wishes to edit. Art does not apologize.

I am not the least bit averse to GBLT romances. I read and write romance fiction featuring both het and GBLT romance. I absolutely support my right to read and write the stories I like with the characters I want ... and I absolutely support Telep's right to do the same. I wish her and all contributors to this antholog...more

This could have been an interesting read, but apparently one story which might have been of interest to me has been pulled by its author, thanks to the sad bigotry of the editor and/or publisher. I understand some other authors have now pulled their stories as well. I will not read this, when (and if) it comes out.
Jeanna
No desire to read a book that pulls a story because the story line involves a romantic homosexual relationship. Disappointing to say the least.
Billi Knight
Apparently the editor of this anthology has quite a 'blinkered, old-fashioned' idea of romance. Doesn't sound very exciting to me.

Yip, glad I found this so I know to avoid Telep . Her anthologies are probably boring as dirt anyway.

Brenna Yovanoff pulled out and Sophie Jordan is still in... even if I wasn't determined not to read another thing Telep has edited ever, this would no longer be worth my time.
Mike
Honestly, I never rate books without at least reading some of them, but what Telep tried to do with this anthology is unacceptable, and I refuse to support it.
