The only thing negative I have to say about this book is I couldn't put it down and read until 5am when my eyes gave out.
Each character has a unique, intriguing personality and I would be hard pressed to say who my favorites were, although Devon and Doc are on the top. Linda is responsible and has it all-together, yet is afraid of love. Shonte is a writer (which I loved reading about) and has no interest in romance and love. Kip is a player who sounded like a lot of fun, Kinnik, whose name sound...more

Hot Fun in the Summertime is a great read where each of the main characters have a chapter to themselves, giving me as the reader a chance to get to know everyone really well. First person has a way of showing me a deeper understanding of the characters, so I was doubly pleased to find a 1st-person book that was also well written with voices that sprang off the pages. Gotta love some deep and meaningful prose, people!

I really enjoyed this novel about a group of friends who rent a house at the Jersey Shore for the summer. The point of view rotates between the four main female characters, a somewhat jaded writer who is afraid to let her guard down with a man and be vulnerable to heartbreak (Shontae), a troubled hip-hop dancer whose priorities are out of wack (Kinnick), a voluptious makeup artist who struggles with independence from her much older but loving boyfriend (Jo) and a no-nonsense accountant/...more

This is my first book by this author, and I really enjoyed it. I do have to say there was a lot going on because there were so many characters in the house, but the dynamic was really good. The book picked up for me following Kinnik's attack. This happens about 65%-70% into the book. The book was really just floating along until that point, with nothing really attention holding happening. Shontae and Devon's story was a good one. I loved how their relationship evolved slowly. As a born and bred Jersey girl, the description of this book got my attention when I saw that the story was about the Jersey shore. This is the first book that I read of Ms. Brown's, and I absolutely loved it! As a Jersey native, Ms. Brown took the reader through a story based on 4 girlfriends and their trial and tribulations during a shared summer vacation at the Jersey shore. Ms. Brown's accurate description of various Jersey shore towns and attractions was spot on, I could close my eyes and v...more
I really enjoyed this book! I am a fan of Chicki's work and "Hot Fun" did not disappoint. The changing points of view among the characters flowed flawlessly and each perspective added something interesting and dramatic to the story line. I loved that the story covered some very serious issues in our society, but they were skillfully woven into the story and were not overly abrasive or jarring. The passion levels of the multiple love stories range from sweet to super hot and they were all execute...more
I really enjoyed this book. What really got my attention was the rotation of the female characters' POV with each chapter. Overall, loved the story and was sad to see it end BUT then realized that there was a sequel, Hollywood Swinging, which I just purchased. I'm hoping to see if any of the other characters will pop up, especially since we were kind of left hanging what happened with their relationships and situations.
