I really like this book. It was a fun and exciting read. Julia is engaged and her fiance wants to get going with the wedding plans. Julia's sisters suggests a museum for the wedding. While Julia and Michael are at the museum to meet with someone, she sees a picture of a young girl that closely resembles her. She looks up the photographer and discovers that he died years ago, but his son lives in the area. When Julia and Alex meet, the story takes off. Julia not only discovers she may not b...more

Mystery Romance Thriller. Julia is about to set the date for her wedding at the museum she wants to be married in when she sees this picture of a Russian orphan and can't get past the fact that it looks just like her and she has the same necklace at home. She can't remember anything before the age of 5 and she decides that she wants answers and wants to know if she is that girl in the picture. As the mystery unfolds she is able to learn more about herself and ultimately how she wants to live her...more

Imagine seeing a photo of a small child, in a foreign country, and realizing that child looks like you at that age. That is the start of the life changing journey that Julia embarks on. Changing, not only her life, but strangers and family, as well
Good book, cleverly written, good plot, just the right amount of suspense and the ending was done very w...more

Oy, where do I start? First, the grade here is for the content of the book. If I were grading the entire reading experience, I'm sure we'd probably get into negative stars. So, first the content. Skip the later stuff if you don't care about the rest of my bitching.

Okay, this story was just awful. Every trite cliche was contained in this one little story. What bothered me the most? The sister not wanting Julia to find out about her past made NO SENSE to me. The boyfriend made ...more

For overall plot I'd give this a 4 but the romance didn't do it for me. I'd give it more of a 2.5. I didn't feel the chemistry between the hero and heroine and I really didn't like the heroine and her selfishness. But the story itself kept me interested to the end.

Barbara Freethy and her San Francisco-domiciled mysteries are starting to become a fun escape for me!! Of the 3 I have read, this is by far the best.

A terrific heroine, a handsome hero, lots of twists and turns, spys, double cross, true love, the bad guys get their comeuppance, the good guys prevail and lots of happily ever after. What's not to love??

If you are looking for a serious read, full of symbolism and classical archetypes for the bookclub, look elsewhere; however, ...more

Don't Say A Word has a fast-paced plot with twists and turns that surprise the reader. It manages to keep the reader off balance and constantly guessing about what is coming next. Plot wise this is one of the best books I've read in a while. At times the characters are too predictable and clique. Near the end, an exchange of dialog made me think that no self respecting man would ever utter those words. But I did root for the characters. I mean who doesn’t love a gorgeous bad boy finding hi...more

I gave this 5 stars because the plot ticked by with new information and events from page 1 to the end. I love that and don't see it in many books. I'll read romances where both people spend a quite a bit of time over thinking something, making it a bigger problem than it is. I get frustrated and skim, thinking it'd be so easy to fix with a simple conversation. That's not a strong plot to me. Freethyy did an excellent job of creating an unique and twisted plot with many layers that kept kept chan...more

This was an interesting story to read with lots of unexpected twists and turns in the plot. Julia's quest to discover who she is and then realizing that everything she thought she knew was wrong was a heartfelt journey that was both inspiring and exciting. Some of the events, and characters were a bit predictable, and a few were even unnecessary. I'm not sure it would have changed much in the story for Michael and Liz to have been a couple all along. There was no doubt from the moment that they ...more

Interesting romantic thriller. The story is more interesting than the romance. A girl planning her wedding sees a picture in a museum of a girl with a necklace that matches her own. She looks up the photographer but he is dead but she makes contact with his son who was present when the picture was taken. Things quickly get complicated; there is international intrigue, family issues, sinister characters and some genuine surprises. Overall a fun read but not very memorable.
Alison Henderson
I really enjoyed this romantic suspense. The intricate plot included a few genuine surprises along with plot points the reader could see coming for miles. The characters were not your typical romance h/h, but I found their reactions unusually realistic, even if that made them less "romantic" at times. My only complaint was a very protacted ending. The author needed to take a good hard look at this and cut twenty pages. It's one thing to tie up loose ends and another to let the story pe...more

Easy and entertaining read. This author is amazing at grabbing my attention and making it nearly impossible for me to put down the book. Warning there are PG-13 parts. I have learned how to skim over but really really wish I did not have to. I have read three of her books and have decided that the PG-13 parts are in all of her books - enough to have me stay away :(

This was a fairly interesting book, however, it was quite predictable. While planning her wedding Julia DeMarco sees a picture of a little girl in a Russian Orphanage who looks like her. She begins to investigate the picture with the help of the original photographers son. It was a quick read and like I said already, has a very predictable plot line.

I enjoyed this book, but I found it a little predictable (despite the attempts to make it unpredictable) and I think the characters were a little undeveloped -- though I am not sure what I mean by that. Maybe that they didn't seem real?

It definitely kept me reading though -- and that in itself is what it's all about in the end!
Jubilee
I love this author. She has the pefect mix of suspense and romance. I can never put any of her books down. She has a clear plot and storyline, and it's very exciting throughout the entire book. I think this is a great read, and I recommend it to those that are looking for a suspenseful, "can't put the book down" read!

This wasn't my normal read but I found it at a used store and I'm glad I got it. It had me hooked by the plot. I was curious at what the ending was going to be like. The ending was not what I expected but the book was really good even though it was not a paranormal.

Pretty good book. When I finished the book I had to go back and reread the begining of the book to be able to put things together. The story is much more involved than I originally thought it would be. A lot of excitement and mystery. I enjoyed it.
Courtney
Entertaining read. Somewhat predictable at times, but then there were a few unexpected surprises! Almost had to put the book down about 100 pages in, because one of the characters was too much like my own mother, but was able to keep reading.

I can usually figure it all out way before the end.....not this one. There are so many twists and turns, your not sure what is up and what is down - in a good way. Very enjoyable and an easy read. I didnt want to put it down.

I enjoyed it. Nice suspenseful plot that kept my attention throughout. Not a literary masterpiece by any means, but it did exactly what I wanted: took my mind off stuff for a couple of relaxing hours.

Thoroughly enjoyable romance, mystery. Thought the romance felt a bit forced,predictable... (good girl/bad-guy.) like other readers I never got sucked up into it. Despite this , I still gave it 5 stars . Mystery slowly unravels and has many twists and turns . Good read.
Kris
I enjoyed reading this book! Some romance and lots of intrigue.
For my friends that are in book club, it has some book club study questions at the end. :)
Under $5 on my eNovel :)
Mandy
Good romantic mystery. Only complaint was the story pretty much happens over 7days. And because of this the I love yous and life long plans made me cringe. Other wise a great read.
Christine
3 1/2 stars. I liked the suspense of this novel. The romantic aspect was a bit forced. I didn't really think the chemistry between the two main characters was developed enough.

Loved this book from start to finish. Couldn't put it down! Lost a little sleep staying up reading. Looking forward to trying another book by Barbara Freethy.

Very interesting story line. Believable twists in the plot. Great characters, just enough danger and intrigue, romance and such to be realistic and interesting. My first by this author, looking forward to reading more by her

I didn't realize I had read this before when I bought it on Kindle. Amazon says it was published in 2011, but it was originally published in 2005.

Fast read! I started and finished it today - interesting story with some romance in it. But surprisingly not a ton of romance?

Barbara's love of writing developed out of a love of reading. Growing up in an all-boy neighborhood, she spent quite a bit of time reading through her mother's large library, many of which were romantic novels. After graduating from the University of California at Santa Barbara, she went into Public Relations, but soon discovered that writing was her true passion.
