He's a real catch . . . if only she could catch him up
Abby Rogers has been on health kicks before - they involve eating one blueberry muffin for breakfast instead of two. But since starting her own business, after watching one too many episodes of The Apprentice, the 28-year-old's waistline has taken even more of a back seat than her long-neglected love life.

Opening Line: “I live in fear of a four-letter word.”
This was a great read, pretty much everything you’d want (and expect) from British chick-lit including an amusing and very relatable heroine, several hunky suitors and a movie worthy ending. It’s also well written and super entertaining; with many hilarious scenes that had me reading out loud to friends. As a rom-com it is predictable, I mean right from the opening chapters you know exactly who Abby is going to end up with but it’s still so mu...more

This book went from cringeworthy to passable in the span of 455 pages. The first few situations were just too embarrassing I suffered from second hand embarrassment and started questioning whether I even wanted to finish the book.
It does pick up after Heidi's life changing announcement, and ends off decently, with everything wrapping up nicely then double knotted with a bow just to be sure. Perhaps it was the classic case of "it's not you, it's me" that explains the three star rating - I get th...more

How wonderful to finally find a chick-lit that has all the right elements of funny, touching, dramatic and romantic. I am certainly a new fan of Jane Costello, as she did an excellent job with Girl On The Run.
This is my second book for her, the first being The Nearly-Weds, which I really enjoyed, but not as much as this one. It had all the right ingredients, balanced perfectly. And it never stalled, she got right into things straight away: from Chapter 1 with Abby running over Tom, Costello mana...more

I have never read any of Jane Costello's work but due to reading her favourable reviews on Amazon I decided to give it a go. Thankfully, I can now add her to my never ending list of authors that I MUST continue reading.

After watching the movie Bridesmaids and realising it was from a novel I wanted to read more and this book didn't let me down......
Abby is a hardworking single woman. The owner of a small start-up graphic design firm, she's just barely balancing her personal and professional lives. But when her best friend Jess convinces her to join a running league, she never would expect to fall for the head runner, Oliver (aka "Doctor Dishy"), or bump into the one guy she never wanted to bump into again, Tom....more
I need to put my hands up and say I am a new fan or Jane Costello! I recently read and reviewed one of her books. My Single Friend and I absolutely loved it. I couldn’t wait to get started on another one so I didn’t hesitate when I saw Girl On The Run I knew it was coming home with me!

Girl on the Run is the first book by Jane Costello that I have read and I loved it. Abby Rogers is extremely likeable and more importantly, believeable. I only started running last year so I related with her first few running experiences.
Abby is running her own business during difficult times; she wants nothing more than to be as a successful as her own entrepreneur mother. The hours she spends in the office and on the way to meetings are mounting up and she is persuaded to take up running as a...more

Abby Rogers is the least health-conscious 28-year-old you’re ever likely to meet and her only concession to healthy eating is eating on blueberry muffin instead of her usual two. So when her best friend Jess invites her to her running club, Abby can think of no worse way to spend her time. However, the thought of seeing Dishy Doctor Oliver on a regular basis propels her to say yes. After a disastrous first session, puking included, Abby vows to never run again. Until she finds out something shoc...more
This was a breezy, light and easy read. You don't name it chic-lit for nothing right? The beginning of the story was funny. Really hilarious. It was sort of a copy of Kinsella's Shopaholic funny - in a small way. There were also other touching elements and scenes in this book. The only problem I had was with the way Costello tied up the conflicts and problems. I felt that the ending was too convenient and rushed. Like everything just smoothed over. Just like that. Like it ended because it had to...more
I won this book from a blog I read and was pretty excited because I've always wanted to read Jane Costello but never have. I really enjoyed this novel and while people compare her style to Sophie Kinsella (or so the back of the book says!) I enjoyed the character of Abby Rogers so much more. She wasn't nearly as flighty as some of Kinsella's characters and I didn't want to smack her on the head to smarten up!

Hilarious and an entertaining book!!
Even though the book has lot of pages, it was a fast-paced one from the first....a really good, funny and enticing story by Jane Costello. I loved the Ms. Costello's style of writing and enjoyed reading it.
Abby is sweet, caring, funny, clumsy sometimes, intelligent and a lot of things....an owner of a successful web design business. But, one thing she does not do or like is exercising and doesn't care about health fitness. When her colleague and friend is aff...more

Well I read about this book in a english magazine and I thought well why not try and read it.
I'm not that much into to Chick lit but once in a while I stumble over a book that I actually like.
Jane Costello surprises me with this book because it's easy to read and you just want to get to the end to see what happens.
I will tell all the chick lit girls that I know that they should read this and that they should be aware that they can't put the book away.

I love reading Jane Costello. My personal favourite is The Nearly-Weds. What differs between the plot of that book and this one, is the level of predictability. The nearly weds had some great twists and turns and one or two little mysteries. This book attempts to have those elements and...fails.

There's something intensely likeable about Jane Costello's writing style. Chick lit carries an unfortunate stigma of being brainless and bubblegum fun, and while Girl on the Run won't win any Booker Prizes soon it's still a great story of self-improvement and love. What's there not to like about a narrator who is almost painfully awkward about relationships (OH TOM), built her own web design company from the ground up without help from her business-savvy mum, and starts running regularly to rais...more
Well i didn't think i would like this book and put it off for a bit, presuming it was full of fluffy bits and 'he loves me, he loves me not' type stuff. How wrong can I be, it does have the fluffy and the lovely stuff, but it also has wicked humour, sensitivity and also encouragement to get off your butt. As i read about the running group it actually made me want to join one and as running is an alien concept for me, i was impressed.

Book Review: Girl on the Run @ai-books
Girl on the Run is my second book I’ve read from Jane Costello. The first one was My Single Friend, which I enjoyed so much! After reading this book, it is safe to say that I am charmed with Jane Costello’s writing style.

Jane Costello is a wonderful writer. I always love reading her books. While I enjoyed "Girl on the Run", I didn't like it as much as her previous books. The book is certainly entertaining and fun to read. There were only a few things which surprised me.
Abby is 28 and has just started her own web design company. She's working hard and barely has any time for herself. She's a horrible driver, she almost runs over a hot guy on a motorcycle. She's close to her employees, Heidi, Priya, and Matt, and...more

Some over the top girl fun that while on the predictable side, gives a girl some extra food for thought about the benefits of running. The main Character Abby is a throughly modern gal, who is juggling being the owner of a relatively new business, trying not to hide her head in shame at some of her less than stellar moments who also gets behind a cause and finds love.
Currently first on my list of Chick Lit books I have read and I will be checking out the authors stories.

Another light read..really is what I want over the summer...but does that mean they have to be so predictable?
I liked the subject matter (setting a goal and sticking to it!)- and especially the fact that she actually had some "meat" on the subject of MS - but other than that, it was a bit silly. The author has a nice writing style, but peppers it with way too many similes and metaphors; I'm sure she does it for literary effect, but over-uses them to the point of distraction.

This book is pretty amazing. Now I could list another Costello's book to my favorit.
Although I admitted I was pretty bored on the first quarter, but it's keep promising and interesting.
Girl On The Run is not only a story about a girl who force herself to keep fit and healthy, although it's quite inspiring (for me), but I also admired Abby's first motivation to start running. It's pretty selfishless and based on her kind and caring heart to help friend, which is amazing since first of all she's r...more

I found this book a little hard to get into but once I'd met the protagonist, Abby, I was hooked. Abby is a funny, intelligent girl with a lot going for her. Every time I was interrupted reading this book, I spent the rest of the time wondering what was going to happen :) I love the background information that is given of all the characters, it makes you really want the best outcomes for them. I would definitely recommended this book!
I’ve only read one of Jane Costello’s books beforehand ‘My Single Friend’ which has been highly praised. By reading another book by this author, I kind of got a general idea of what the narrative would be like.
I favoured Girl on the Run, the dialogue was steadier where as I found with My Single Friend, it got quite boring in bits. I think the book would appeal to a younger generation, for example it wasn’t overly explicit.

loved it! so refreshing to read a book not just because the story is great but the way it is written. the dialogues are amusing, funny and witty (that is so rare now a days). i read and re-read this book to laugh at the funny and witty one liners. For me, a book is 5 star if I can read it more than once and this one is definitely 5 star!
Four stars for the book itself and one star for the very important issues that Jane is writing about.
This book was lovely and funny, it comes to Costello so easy to write with so much fun and joy! I loved the characters from the very beginning, they are all so real, and all the situations are so real, they can happen to every one. Abby is so believable in this what she does, and I know exactly what she feels and how she copes (not:) with all the sport - y and diet - y thing, as I am doing exactl...more

My first time reading a Costello book and I really enjoyed it. Some similarities to Sophie Kinsella writing style. Funny and engaging. This one had more depth than the usual chick-lit read with the illness/fundraising/health/body image issues as well. REad it in one go, an hour. Will defn be reading her other books.
Again not really my kind of book but super proud that my friend Lizzie designed the cover! Once I got into the main character I just had to find out how it all ended for her which of course was the usual happy romantic ending so predictable but then not sure I'd have wanted it to end any other way - what a sop I am!
