Another good one-Historical fiction, Christian romance. No sex, violence, bad language.

This book is the first in a planned four-book series by Karen Baney. It follows the westward quest of Will Colter and Hannah and Drew Anderson as they escape their pasts to find their futures. Set in the 1860s, the author has done considerable research to remain true to the times and to include some of the famous characters of the era. The result is a very interesting read that highlights the hardships of this arduous journey. The ending is somewhat predictable, but offers much satisfaction alon ...more
What an interesting story! This a story about a couple heading out west to start a new life away from the problems they were dealing with in Ohio. Dr. Drew Anderson and his wife Hannah had nice home and lots of friends until the day that Drew's brother caused trouble and got put in jail. The town then reacted poorly to Drew and his wife, so they decided to pack up and head out to Arizona to start a new clinic and a new dream.

Then there was the story of Will. His parents both passed away and that
I really enjoyed this book. It was a break from the books I have been reading lately. I have always had a soft spot for either books with cowboys or books that have people in covered wagons traveling to a land unknown to them other than the recomendation they might read in a newspaper by someone who was supposed to have made the trip there and knew the land. It is always a situation where the people who decide to pick up and move, in this case Hannah has to go with her husband, as that is what t ...more
When it comes to books that are an absolute delight to read, A Dream Unfolding is very high on that list. Very rarely does a book spark my interest right from the very beginning, but this one sure did. I know I have said this before and I’m sure regular readers of my reviews are tired of hearing this, but I just prefer debut novels. Karen Baney’s debut novel is another reason for my debut novel preference. That’s not to say that I don’t like subsequent books, but it’s those debut novels that rea ...more

A Dream Unfolding is a historically rich and emotionally poignant story about loss, healing, and second chances that will resonate with readers. There are two separate plots lines recounted simultaneously, yet the flow of the story never feels fragmented or disjointed because they are thematically linked. The narration navigates seamlessly between the two plots building suspense until the two stories ultimately culminate into one cohe

A Dream Unfolding is a delightful debut novel! I enjoyed this book immensely though I am not a fan of westerns, which this book reminded me of. This historical fiction takes place in 1800’s America, during the Civil War and Arizona’s statehood. While I was clearly aware of the plot set up from the very beginning, there were a few surprises, in terms of its execution, along the way. Here is the skinny on this title.

Hannah and Drew Anderson were upstanding citizens in Cincinnati, Ohio. Drew was a doctor and had all the patients he needed to make a good living for him and his wife and hopefully children the would have. Hannah loved being Drew's wife and could hardly wait to become a Mother. Until that time she kept busy helping her husband out in his practice whenever needed, even if it meant ruining meals and having to start over at the drop of a hat. They had many good friends and thought they would always ...more

Recommended to Melinda by: Enjoyed the author's book NICKELS, a Christian contemporary romance
Karen Baney has crafted an inspirational and heart-warming Christian Historical Romance in her debut novel, A Dream Unfolding (Prescott Pioneers #1). She covers wagon train rides, cattle drives, and military expeditions – oh my! Her research of these true events is evident by both the author's descriptive details of setting throughout the book in the different places of Ohio, Texas, and Arizona, and by Baney accurately illustrating many of the challenges pioneers encountered during the 1860s.

Although an interesting read, as someone who reads romances - this wasn't what I expected or prefer. The story was long, with a lot of reflection on spiritual things, and little focus on activity or plot. It seemed to take a long time to get anywhere. I really felt like this was two or three books instead of one, since there was a definite break in the story - first of Hannah and their trip, then secondly of Hannah and Will (with a possible third of Will alone). There was a lot of emphasis on th ...more
The story opens in 1863. In Ohio, Drew, the town doctor, and his wife, Hannah, are well respected and happily married-until his wild younger brother robs the town bank and the townspeople turn against them. Drew’s medical practice collapses, and they need to leave town. Drew feels God leading them to Arizona Territory, and off they go by wagon train. Meanwhile, in Texas. Will, full of integrity and faith, is forced off the family land by his brother. He heads to Arizona with his half of the herd ...more

I never wanted this book to end! What a great movie it would make, but have the tissues handy!

Sometimes I just need a simple book to help me shut down the complex thinking I've done all day and let me quiet my mind with something more interesting than meditation, but not stimulating in a way that makes me want to stay awake. This book suited that purpose beautifully. Don't get me wrong--it does not cause insomnia, but it is not so exciting or fast paced that it keeps me up too long wanting to turn the pages.
I was lucky. I was able to get Books 1,2,3 FREE from Amazon. I don't have Book 4 -- sniff! Because I plan to read the whole series.

I had forgotten the title but once I started reading the book -- I remembered it. And I read it again & enjoyed it every bit as much as the first time.

This is a lovely Christian Western Romance -- and the author has done her research. Enjoy!
I did enjoy this book and I know it was predictable but I enjoyed reading how that predictability would be played out. I would have given this book four stars if it were not for a few unbelievable events. One is the account of a group of cowboys frolicking with buckets of water in the Arizona Territory in the midst of winter. The fact that they had no shelter, have been out on the trail for months and being at a base of a mountain next to a lake, they decide to have a water fight. No mention wha ...more

When two men from entirely different lives set out to follow the path God is calling them on, neither believes it will be easy. Though neither expects the outcome of their obedience, they both submit their lives to God's leading and their paths cross in a way that they never imagined and certainly would have never hoped for.

While the overall plot of this book was a touch predictable, the story was simply engrossing and even though I was able to predict the outcome, I never would have guessed the
Very Realistic View of Life on the Frontier

I really enjoy watching Westerns and reading books that illustrate frontier life -- which wasn't easy, by the way! When I saw that "A Dream Unfolding" is the first in Karen Baney's "Prescott Pioneers" series, I just had to read it. I live in northern Arizona, not too far from Prescott -- which was the initial capital of the Arizona territory before it became a state. Ms. Baney's story line is wonderful and pulled me into the story right away. It is obvi

A dream unfolding

Wow such a beautiful story I could not put down this book. Wonderful Christian story of love, endurance and perseverance. Have tissues ready there are some tears.

Loved it how this book was written, you get Hannah's story as it happens then the next chapter is Will's story and it goes back and forth.... great book....
Using a double story line that connects for about the last 1/3 of the book, Karen Baney follows the story of Drew and Hannah a young married couple who leaves Cinncinati on a wagon train headed for the Arizona territory so Drew can set up a new medical practice as well as Will who is leaving Texas for Arizona territory to begin his own cattle/horse ranch. Encountering numerous situations along the way that test their faith in God, Hannah and Will find themselves unfolding new dreams that God has ...more
This story was expertly written. It held just enough mystery and entertainment to keep me hooked throughout. At first I wondered how the two angles of the story were going to come together and I was happy that I didn't figure it out until about 60% into the book.

I did find the historical aspect a bit daunting (maybe its because I really hate history) However, I felt that the author did a good job of telling the story as well as underlining the historical significance of the events. The pieces o
Although this is not generally the type of book I read, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the book. Hannah suffers much of what I envision a lot of pioneer women suffered . . . love, loss, heartbreak, new beginnings. Hannah must make many choices - choices in which the right path is not always clear. But, Hannah finds that when she truly seeks God's guidance, He will not steer her wrong. I felt every emotion that Hannah felt - love, anguish, confusion, despair, hope. Drew and Will ...more
Yet another series I enjoyed! All the books bring grief, doubt, joy and happiness together in a well rounded story.

A Dream Unfolding is a historically rich and emotional story about loss, healing, and second chances. There are two separate plots lines recounted simultaneously. Wagon train to Arizona, many troubles, losses and friendships made. This is the beginning of a new series, I am looking forward to reading the entire series. I started reading this series and got caught up with all the charactors. I love reading books of faith and how God gently calls us to him. The history and details put in the books was informative and interesting to note all the hardships the early pioneers had to contend with.
My heart broke for Hannah and all she had to endure I couldn't imagine having to go through hardships these men and women went through to settle the different areas of this country and Karen Baney did a wonderful job takin
This is another romance with religious background. It is a historical romance. The main character and her husband are forced to flee west due to circumstances beyond their control. They find their marriage shaken to the core as they encounter experiences that are outside their realm of knowledge and understanding. When the unthinkable happens....twice, the main character is forced to dig deep into her reserves and figure out exactly who she is and what she wants from life. It is a very nice read ...more
