To say that I was excited for In the Forests of the Night is a severe understatement...I have been anxiously awaiting this book since the moment I finished...no, maybe the moment I started Tyger Tyger...yup, I love this series that much. As soon as I start one I'm anxious for more...and more. I've got a pretty big To-read pile, so I haven't taken much time to reread a story in a while, but I made an exception for this series. I didn't want to start In the Forests of the Night without remembering...more
Kersten Hamilton does a wonderful job picking up the threads from book one and weaving them seamlessly into IN THE FORESTS OF THE NIGHT. Her ability to drop information unobtrusively into the narrative was important, as her cast of characters is large and complex, and getting reacquainted took a few chapters.
That getting to know you process is rewarding, however, as Teagan and her friends deal with the frenetic aftermath of their trip to the faerie realms. admit, I was overwhelmed for the first...more

Book Synopsis
Teagan, Finn, and Aiden have rescued Tea's and Aiden's father and have made it out of Mag Mell alive, bringing a few new friends with them. But The Dark Man's forces are hot on their heels. Back in Chicago, Teagan soon realizes that she is not the target of the goblins. In fact, the goblins call her princess, and call her to come out and play. Something is happening to her, and she suspects it’s an infection she picked up in Mag Mell. An infected cat-sídhe becomes her test subject...more
“Set your sails upon the mighty winds of May…Set your sails upon the hope of June”…
When Aiden sang this song for Teagan I got goosebumps and shivers. And I kicked my feet and giggled when Teagan and Finn… well, you’ll have to wait and read it for yourself.
When you reach the last line on the last page you'll shout inarticulately and throw the book from you, but you'll be smiling because you can still feel the hum of the story.

Teagan, Finn, and Aiden have made it back to our world and out of Mag Mell - along with some friends and with some knowledge of Teagan's past that they all could have done without. The Dark Man is still on her trail, but is trying to be more persuasive, by trying to go after Teagan's friends and family. When the group finds themselves back in Mag Mell on a search to stop the growing goblin inside of her.

Tyger, Tyger was an unexpected delight, and it should come as no surprise that Kersten Hamilton continues the tradition with its sequel In The Forests Of The Night. This series rolls around in all the best ingredients to make an unforgettable read – charming, exciting, heart-breaking, game-changing, and all sorts of fun – I will be quite sad when this all ends because it will be like saying goodbye to a group of good friends.

Book Two of The Goblin Wars Series, steeped in Irish mythology, is not a standalone book either on the front end or the back end. Rather, it seems a transition from the first to the third, an interlude during which we spend more time with the characters and get to know them better. (And I have no complaints on that score – they are a delight.) Not a lot new happens in this book, except that Teagan is deliberately infected by her evil goblin cousin Kyle with his own genetic material so that she w...more
In the Forests of the Night is the second book in the Goblin Wars series. I am very much enjoying this series by Kersten Hamilton, the first of which is Tyger Tyger. Based on Celtic folklore, with characters that jump off the page, this book will keep you interested to the last word. And tiger eyes? Wicked (I wonder if I can get some tiger eye contacts?)!

Everything is going good for Teagan after repeated heartbreak in the last book. She’s back at home with some new friends surrounding her. Cat-sidhe and other Fir Bog haunt her, but overall everything is going great. The large part of the beginning of this book is about life calming back down after the first book.
The thing about this series is that regardless if the action is constant or a bit slow it’s an eccentric ride. One that leaves a smile on my face throughout. Finn is adorable and Teagan...more

I'm pleased to report that the elements which made Tyger Tyger a wonderful fantasy novel re-appear in the second of the Goblin Wars trilogy by Kersten Hamilton, In the Forests of the Night.
My favorite character, then as now, the cute-as-a-button five-year-old Aiden, is even more endearing. Mamieo is still a feisty firecracker of a grandmother. Although Mr. Wylltson has got to have the best line in the novel: "'I'm a librarian...We practice believing seven impossible things before breakfast.'"

Teagan is upset with what she learned of her mothers family (in Tyger Tyger) and what it might mean to her and Finn. When Finn comes to talk to her and reassure her things get crazy quickly in the full house of the Wylltsons'. Thomas starts sprouting feathers and cat-sidhe appear. The cat-sidhe want Aiden. As Fear Doirich wants Aiden. Mamieo doesn't like Thomas because he's a highborn, Roisin (Teagan's Aunt) is mad at her love, her father is still trying to get his memories back...more

One of my favourite reads of last year was part one of this series, Tyger Tyger. Fresh, exciting and fairly creepy, Tyger Tyger totally blew me away, so I was pretty bummed when part two, In the Forest of the Night, didn't crop up at the BEA (the poster was there but I never came by the book). Thus it was the biggest thrill when I got home and ONE DAY LATER, a box of ARC's arrived containing none other than....In the Forest of the Night!! Generally speaking I am a notoriously unlucky person (as...more
I didn't expect to read this book. I really enjoyed the first one, and figured I'd read this one eventually, but never really gave it a second thought. I just happened to find it on a shelf at the library and figured hey why not? I enjoyed the first one so much, the second one should be fun, right?
Sort of.
There was still the fairy tale aspect of the story, which I love. I love all the background in Irish mythology. I love the speech patterns Finn has, I can really hear him speaking in an Irish...more

Another incredible urban fantasy plus Celtic mythology and legend, set in contemporary Chicago, “In the Forests of the Night” is every bit as absorbing as its predecessor in the series, “Tyger, Tyger.” Young Teagan, still reeling from the loss of her mother, the near-loss of her father, and his inability to recover the memories of her mother’s death that had been wiped from his mind during his involuntary stay in Mag Mell (the alter-dimension of goblins, fae, sidhe, and others), must cope with t...more
In the Forest of the Night by Kersten Hamilton is the second book in The Goblin Wars series. The First book, Tyger, Tyger really blew me away. So of course I was excited to read the next book in the series. In the Forest of the Night picks up virtually where Tyger, Tyger left off. Teagan is dealing with the knowledge of finding out who she really is and how it's going to affect the rest of her life. Her feelings for Finn are not helping either. She's a goblin while he's a goblin hunter really pu...more
In the Forests of the Night starts where Tyger Tyger left off. For those that have not read it, I will do my best to be non-spoilery for the first book as much as possible. It did take me a minute to catch up since the last book, but I did so easily. I was back with the crowd loving all the characters again. In fact, you will all love Aiden the little boy in the first book... and you will have your heart stolen again in this book.

This book starts up pretty much where Tyger, Tyger left off, Teagan must deal with the knowledge of her bloodline. She is determined to keep her family and friends safe at all cost. Just as things seemed to be back to as normal as it can be for the Wylltson family. It's not like every family has a nasty little Maggot Cat following them around.
Then one day Teagan's cousin shows up (a highborn sidhe) and does something to alter Teagan's DNA, trying to turn her more in to what he is. Kyle is trying...more

This was another excellent story by Kersten Hamilton. I like her focus on Irish Mythology and I really love the family relationships in this story - no matter how unconventional the family might be. Teagan, Aiden and Finn have made it back alive from Mag Mell with Mr. Wylltson and a few other characters too. Tea and Aiden's Aunt Roisin and the goblin Highborn Thomas has come too.
We get to see her choosing to be the kind of person she wants to be. She is thrown, at first, when she discovers that...more

Loved it! Teagan, Finn, Aiden, and her father made it out of Mag Mell. Teagan is part goblin. Yeahhh... She's a Stormrider. But Teagan holds on to herself.....before what is Teagan is lost forever. Fear is after Teagan using whatever leverage he can get on her. Her family. Abby. Finn. Teagan knows one thing: whatever happens to her, no one, especially not Fear, is hurting the people she loves. They kinda get chased around by the goblins and such for the first half of the book which could have be...more
Teagan, Finn, Aiden, and Abby are all back along with an assortment of characters in this sequel to Hamilton’s Tyger, Tyger. Teagan knows she loves Finn, but is afraid of what a relationship between them might mean now that she knows she is a highborn. She knows what she wants, but fears her blood may get in the way. The Dark Man, however, hasn’t forgotten about Teagan and still wants her at any cost, even the lives of her friends and family.

I highly enjoyed this sequel to last year’s Tyger, Tyger. IN THE FORESTS OF THE NIGHT picks up right where we’re left at in the first book and hits the ground running. Teagan, her brother Aiden, their dad, Finn and the rest are safely back from and out of Mag Mell. But old blood has been awakened, and Mag Mell and Fear Doirich do not let go so easily.

Kersten Hamilton's writing is vivid, descriptive, and captivating. Sometimes her words grab the reader into her world with a jerk- causing surprise, horror or disbelief. I envision her typing the words as she thinks to herself"THAT will get them!" Other times her words bring about strong emotional reactions because they convey what the characters are feeling so clearly that we experience their emotions right along with them. I will let the following excerpt show why I love this book so much:
"Why don't you go right down and kill the creature now?"
"I couldn't do it now, and you well know it. Not after I have seen that he loves the girl as strong and right as I loved my Rory."
"Would you have killed him the day he lied to Roisin, before his love grew strong and right?"
"I don't think I would. Not if I knew what was growing in him"
"Then how about the day before he met the girl? Before he ever loved at all?"

Wow. Just wow. This book was awesome! I liked the first one but I loved this one.
Teagan is back home after rescuing her father and brother. Now that everything should be perfect her mothers deepest secret has become Teagans new reality. What an amazing second book! In the Forests of the Night jumps right back into the lives of the Wylltsons and the story continues fast paced and exciting. I really enjoyed Finn in this one. He's SUCH a lovely character. He really is. I don't think that there's any way that you can read this series and NOT love Finn. He's exceptional for a teenage boy. He's fearless, strong and loyal. I believe Kersten Hamilton is filling a void left by Diana Wynne Jones--with her own unique voice and point of view, of course. Many of the things I love about DWJ's books I find here: a large cast of characters, a sense of mutual love and affection among the characters, an unexpectedness of plot, joyful and surprising magic, and a sense of barely controlled chaos which makes her books such a fun rollercoaster to read. If you haven't read Tyger Tyger yet, move it to the top of your to-read pile...more

“ You don't like me talking to other girls?"
"I don't like you grinning at them."Teagan admitted
"Then tame me with your fine Irish eyes, girl."
"Humph."
"You have nothing to worry about. You've had my heart since..."
"When?"
"I was just trying to sort it, " Fin said. "It could have been the time you explained how its cockles were related to a shellfish." he paused. "No, it was when you flat refused to kiss me-- and me thinking I'd never see you agina, risking my kife to lead the goblins away into the night. It was heroic. And sad."
Teagan punched his arm.
"All right." He smiled. "It was the first time I set eyes on you. My heart stopped beating, and that's a fact."
"I know," Teagan said. "The first time I met you, it made me throw up."
Finn knit his brows. "I'll never get over how romantic you are. It's like you've stepped right out of one of those fairy movies Aiden's making Roisin watch.”
