To say that I was excited for In the Forests of the Night is a severe understatement...I have been anxiously awaiting this book since the moment I finished...no, maybe the moment I started Tyger Tyger...yup, I love this series that much. As soon as I start one I'm anxious for more...and more. I've got a pretty big To-read pile, so I haven't taken much time to reread a story in a while, but I made an exception for this series. I didn't want to start In the Forests of the Night without remembering More...

Kersten Hamilton does a wonderful job picking up the threads from book one and weaving them seamlessly into IN THE FORESTS OF THE NIGHT. Her ability to drop information unobtrusively into the narrative was important, as her cast of characters is large and complex, and getting reacquainted took a few chapters.

That getting to know you process is rewarding, however, as Teagan and her friends deal with the frenetic aftermath of their trip to the faerie realms. admit, I was overwhelmed More...

Amelia, the pragmatic idealist is currently reading it
ohh you KNOW I'm gonna read this!

And I love the continuation:
"Tyger Tyger burning bright
In the Forests of the Night..."
and book 3 should be called
"What Immortal Hand or Eye"
...but blast! Niffenegger already took the "fearful symmetry" thing

Book Synopsis

Teagan, Finn, and Aiden have rescued Tea's and Aiden's father and have made it out of Mag Mell alive, bringing a few new friends with them. But The Dark Man's forces are hot on their heels. Back in Chicago, Teagan soon realizes that she is not the target of the goblins. In fact, the goblins call her princess, and call her to come out and play. “Set your sails upon the mighty winds of May…Set your sails upon the hope of June”…
When Aiden sang this song for Teagan I got goosebumps and shivers. And I kicked my feet and giggled when Teagan and Finn… well, you’ll have to wait and read it for yourself.

When you reach the last line on the last page you'll shout inarticulately and throw the book from you, but you'll be smiling because you can still feel the hum of the story.

And when you put the book on the shelf More...

Teagan, Finn, and Aiden have made it back to our world and out of Mag Mell - along with some friends and with some knowledge of Teagan's past that they all could have done without. The Dark Man is still on her trail, but is trying to be more persuasive, by trying to go after Teagan's friends and family. When the group finds themselves back in Mag Mell on a search to stop the growing goblin inside of her.

While I enjoyed returning to Teagan's world again, I had a much harder time follo More...

Tyger, Tyger was an unexpected delight, and it should come as no surprise that Kersten Hamilton continues the tradition with its sequel In The Forests Of The Night. This series rolls around in all the best ingredients to make an unforgettable read – charming, exciting, heart-breaking, game-changing, and all sorts of fun – I will be quite sad when this all ends because it will be like saying goodbye to a group of good friends.

Book Two of The Goblin Wars Series, steeped in Irish mythology, is not a standalone book either on the front end or the back end. Rather, it seems a transition from the first to the third, an interlude during which we spend more time with the characters and get to know them better. (And I have no complaints on that score – they are a delight.) Not a lot new happens in this book, except that Teagan is deliberately infected by her evil goblin cousin Kyle with his own genetic material so that sh More...

In the Forests of the Night is the second book in the Goblin Wars series. I am very much enjoying this series by Kersten Hamilton, the first of which is Tyger Tyger. Based on Celtic folklore, with characters that jump off the page, this book will keep you interested to the last word. And tiger eyes? Wicked (I wonder if I can get some tiger eye contacts?)!

I love the ties to Celtic mythology and how Hamilton weaves established myths with her own imaginings. Goblins and fairies and sidh More...

Everything is going good for Teagan after repeated heartbreak in the last book. She’s back at home with some new friends surrounding her. Cat-sidhe and other Fir Bog haunt her, but overall everything is going great. The large part of the beginning of this book is about life calming back down after the first book.

The thing about this series is that regardless if the action is constant or a bit slow it’s an eccentric ride. One that leaves a smile on my face throughout. Finn is adorable More...

I'm pleased to report that the elements which made Tyger Tyger a wonderful fantasy novel re-appear in the second of the Goblin Wars trilogy by Kersten Hamilton, In the Forests of the Night.

My favorite character, then as now, the cute-as-a-button five-year-old Aiden, is even more endearing. Mamieo is still a feisty firecracker of a grandmother. Although Mr. Wylltson has got to have the best line in the novel: "'I'm a librarian...We practice believing seven impossible things befo More...

Oh I was so happy to receive an ARC of this second book in the Goblin Wars trilogy! And sometimes, second books disappoint, but this one didn't. Now, I'll say right now, if you didn't read TYGER,TYGER, there are SPOILERS in this review that will ruin it for you. You've been warned.

People had problems with how the death of Teagan and Aiden's mother was handled in Tyger, Tyger. I did not. She died. I wanted the rest of the story. I didn't want to read a book about the year More...

Teagan is upset with what she learned of her mothers family (in Tyger Tyger) and what it might mean to her and Finn. When Finn comes to talk to her and reassure her things get crazy quickly in the full house of the Wylltsons'. Thomas starts sprouting feathers and cat-sidhe appear. The cat-sidhe want Aiden. As Fear Doirich wants Aiden. Mamieo doesn't like Thomas because he's a highborn, Roisin (Teagan's Aunt) is mad at her love, her father is still trying to get More...

One of my favourite reads of last year was part one of this series, Tyger Tyger. Fresh, exciting and fairly creepy, Tyger Tyger totally blew me away, so I was pretty bummed when part two, In the Forest of the Night, didn't crop up at the BEA (the poster was there but I never came by the book). Thus it was the biggest thrill when I got home and ONE DAY LATER, a box of ARC's arrived containing none other than....In the Forest of the Night!! Generally speaking I am a notoriously unlucky person (as More...

In the Forest of the Night by Kersten Hamilton is the second book in The Goblin Wars series. The First book, Tyger, Tyger really blew me away. So of course I was excited to read the next book in the series. In the Forest of the Night picks up virtually where Tyger, Tyger left off. Teagan is dealing with the knowledge of finding out who she really is and how it's going to affect the rest of her life. Her feelings for Finn are not helping either. She's a goblin while he's a goblin hunter really pu More...

In the Forests of the Night starts where Tyger Tyger left off. For those that have not read it, I will do my best to be non-spoilery for the first book as much as possible. It did take me a minute to catch up since the last book, but I did so easily. I was back with the crowd loving all the characters again. In fact, you will all love Aiden the little boy in the first book... and you will have your heart stolen again in this book.

In fact, although this is primarily Tegan's tale, real More...

This book starts up pretty much where Tyger, Tyger left off, Teagan must deal with the knowledge of her bloodline. She is determined to keep her family and friends safe at all cost. Just as things seemed to be back to as normal as it can be for the Wylltson family. It's not like every family has a nasty little Maggot Cat following them around.

Then one day Teagan's cousin shows up (a highborn sidhe) and does something to alter Teagan's DNA, trying to turn her more in to what he is. Ky More...

This was another excellent story by Kersten Hamilton. I like her focus on Irish Mythology and I really love the family relationships in this story - no matter how unconventional the family might be. Teagan, Aiden and Finn have made it back alive from Mag Mell with Mr. Wylltson and a few other characters too. Tea and Aiden's Aunt Roisin and the goblin Highborn Thomas has come too.

We get to see her choosing to be the kind of person she wants to be. She is thrown, at first, when she disc More...

Teagan, Finn, Aiden, and Abby are all back along with an assortment of characters in this sequel to Hamilton’s Tyger, Tyger. Teagan knows she loves Finn, but is afraid of what a relationship between them might mean now that she knows she is a highborn. She knows what she wants, but fears her blood may get in the way. The Dark Man, however, hasn’t forgotten about Teagan and still wants her at any cost, even the lives of her friends and family.

WARNING: This review does contain spoilers for Tyger, Tyger, the first book in the Goblin Wars series.

Caitlin: In the Forests of the Nightmay look short, but a lot happened to Teagan, Finn, and Aiden. It starts off with everyone, and I mean everyone, living in the same house. The characters have to deal with the usual problems of living in a crowded house. A man turning into a raven just as a social worker is coming over. Going to school More...

I highly enjoyed this sequel to last year’s Tyger, Tyger. IN THE FORESTS OF THE NIGHT picks up right where we’re left at in the first book and hits the ground running. Teagan, her brother Aiden, their dad, Finn and the rest are safely back from and out of Mag Mell. But old blood has been awakened, and Mag Mell and Fear Doirich do not let go so easily.

While not as immediately action-packed as you would assume it would be, IN THE FORESTS OF THE NIGHT spend much of the first part of the b More...

Kersten Hamilton's writing is vivid, descriptive, and captivating. Sometimes her words grab the reader into her world with a jerk- causing surprise, horror or disbelief. I envision her typing the words as she thinks to herself"THAT will get them!" Other times her words bring about strong emotional reactions because they convey what the characters are feeling so clearly that we experience their emotions right along with them. I loved In the Forests of the Night, and I cannot wait for t More...

What an amazing second book! In the Forests of the Night jumps right back into the lives of the Wylltsons and the story continues fast paced and exciting. I really enjoyed Finn in this one. He's SUCH a lovely character. He really is. I don't think that there's any way that you can read this series and NOT love Finn. He's exceptional for a teenage boy. He's fearless, strong and loyal. Finn puts everyone else first and has no illusions about his future. He's ridiculously mature for someon More...

I believe Kersten Hamilton is filling a void left by Diana Wynne Jones--with her own unique voice and point of view, of course. Many of the things I love about DWJ's books I find here: a large cast of characters, a sense of mutual love and affection among the characters, an unexpectedness of plot, joyful and surprising magic, and a sense of barely controlled chaos which makes her books such a fun rollercoaster to read. If you haven't read Tyger Tyger yet, move it to the top of your to-read pil More...

This was GREAT story telling! I loved everything about this book. I fell in love with all the characters and the references to classic literature, renowned authors, mystical poetry, and Celtic mythology makes The Goblin War world absolutely fascinating. I was very happy to get my hands on an ARC of 'In the Forests of the Night'. I loved 'Tyger Tyger', so I was really looking forward to the next in the series. I wasn't disappointed.

'In the Forests of the Night' has the same flavor and feel of the first book. The characters are just as interesting, the story moves at a great pace, and there are new creatures and happenings in Mag Mell that we haven't seen before. It was a bit darker than 'Tyger Tyger', but in a necessary way. More...

In the Forests of the Night, the sequel to the fantastic Tyger Tyger, was a perfect second installment to the series. There's something magical about the Goblin Wars books that makes it impossible to lump in with every other series, so it's odd that what I loved about this book is everything that normally agitates me about an average sequel. It's a bit more low-key, not nearly as action-packed as the first, and the rush of the story doesn't really begin until the last seventy pages or so. But fo More...
