In this installment, we get to find out more about Martha, who was introduced in the first book. She's a witch who is hell bent on completing a self-imposed mission to destroy every creature that stands in her path in hopes of finding and killing Lucian, the vampire who murdered her mother and grandmother. Her life is turned upside down when she meets Xan. Martha is trying to figure out who or what Xan is, since she can't sense any evil in him. Xan is not the usual vampire Martha frequently runs into in her daily life, and he has his own secrets too.

I enjoyed reading Eve of Samhain, but I loved Pleasures Untold even more! Martha is a strong heroine. She's snarky, likeable, a badass and watches out for her friends, Taylor and Jessica. Xan is a sexy Latin vampire with a hot bod who whispers loving phrases in one moment and then curses in Spanish in the next breath, LOL! Xan and Martha had great chemistry together too! I loved how they helped each other out in certain situations.

If you're not familiar with Ms. Sanchez's work, her writing is witty, humorous and sarcastic. There were moments that had me laughing so hard I spit out my coffee! One of my favorite moments was when Taylor and Jessica, who are Grey's Anatomy fans, were trying to come up for a nickname for Xan:

“McVampy. He's smoking hot, and he's got a delicious bite to him. He's better than McDreamy and McSteamy rolled together!”

So if you liked the first book, you will definitely love this one! Even if Eve of Samhain was not your cup of tea, please give Pleasures Untold a try anyway. I found the storyline and the dynamic between the characters more interesting. It was definitely an entertaining read. Plus, the story sets it up nicely to go into the 3rd book, Faythe Reclaimed, which is Taylor and Gabriel's story. Gabriel is Xan's friend, and we get to know him a little in this one.(less)

I think I enjoyed this book better than the first. They did share some similar threads. A bar, a town and a group of friends. And a ancient soul who possessed tremendous power and a heroine was a loner. But this book was very different from the first in the series as well. The first featured a Fae and this a Vampire hybrid who commanded magic.

This book started out fantastic and I thought I might like it even more than the first, but it lost me about half way. I also had an issue right off the bat. The main character Martha’s personality changed completely from the first book to this one. In the first book she was reclusive and stand-offish, but in the second she is snarky and brash, with tons of witty comebacks. I felt like the off-beat outsider was lost from book 1 to book 2. This book started out fantastic and I thought I might like it even more than the first, but it lost me about half way. I also had an issue right off the bat. The main character Martha’s personality changed completely from the first book to this one. In the first book she was reclusive and stand-offish, but in the second she is snarky and brash, with tons of witty comebacks. I felt like the off-beat outsider was lost from book 1 to book 2. To me, she seemed exactly like Ryann in the Eve of Samhain. Still, as I was reading I enjoyed some of the dialogue and just went with it.

The story has an interesting plot. Martha has fun powers and she fights demons and vampires—who doesn’t love a Buffy? I also liked the idea of her falling for a vampire when she hates vampires—again, images of Buffy and Angel. Although, I was always a Buffy and Spike fan, but I digress. Anyway, the hero is a hot Spanish god and Martha falls for him on first sight. I had huge issues with the hero. Xan’s dialogue was extremely formal most of the time, which is fine if it’s consistent. The problem is he’s not consistent, he’d be formal one second then say things like “you’re wicked fierce” the next. Not only that, I hated all the Spanish endearments (it’s a little overdone and out of place when he’s just meeting her).

His speech wasn’t the only thing that bothered me. His actions were also a contradiction. I love tension and angst between characters when it fits into the storyline. I hate it when it feel contrived for the sole purpose of adding tension and angst. One minute Xan is fawning over Martha, they are kissing and he gives her her first orgasm. The next he’s being awful and telling her how he could snap his fingers and have her naked under him if he wanted. Then he proceeds to tell her about all the women he’s had sex with and fed from. I was so pissed at him. Then in the next scene he pops in to save her and is calling her mi amor and carino again and she falls into his arms. It just felt like they fought for no reason just to make conflict and drama.

There were a lot of abrupt things happening in the story as well. One minute they were in one location and something is happening, then with no warning the heroine wakes up in a glass room with Xan and sunlight shining in the room. The reader has no idea how they arrive in this location as captives—especially when we never even see a bad guy. And they miraculously save themselves (again without ever seeing a bad guy) because the hero feeds from her and while he feeds he mentally calls his friend to save them. By the time he’s done feeding his friend is there and breaks them out. None of it made sense, from how they’re captured (which is too easy) to how they’re rescued (which is way too convenient).

To me, it felt like the author was writing from a predesigned format. Need some conflict between characters: Check. I’ll just plop that in here. Need a nail biting kidnapping to keep readers interested: Check. I’ll put that here. Need a sex scene: Check. Heroine can forgive hero and have steamy sex here. It just felt way too scripted and unnatural. I much prefer the feeling of a story being swept away on its own. Where it feels like the author gets so carried away in the characters that the story develops more organically and on less of an outlined, predestined path. This didn’t feel like that at all. Although Pleasures Untold is not a bad story, I just couldn’t get into it.

Right after I finished Eve of Samhain, I started reading the next book of Hanaford Park series - Pleasures Untold. since I was consumed by the first book, I had high expectations to the second one as well.

WOW!! Thank you so much Lisa Sanchez for writing a fantastic book. I really enjoyed Eve of Samhain...but I LURVED Pleasures Untold !!
The connection the three girls (Martha, Jessica & Taylor) have is wonderful and you can feel their closeness and understanding of each other throughout the book.
The chemistry that sizzles, sparks and kabooms between Xan and Martha totally rocked. I waited and read and waited and wanted and you delivered!!! There was a lightness about the book that made it very easy to read and so entertaining. It was filled with a few very good POWs and few teary sad spots and of course some great smexiness!

My eyes shut at night and my mind begins it journey to find Xan!! I want me one of those! Without being too brooding and dark her is uber yum and a little cheeky on the side - just the way I like my man!! LOL!But without being too soppy and lovey dovey.

Martha is fantastic. It's hard not to mention too much without giving a whole lot of the plot away.....I just want to blurt it out!!! But Martha is a fantastic and formidable lead in Pleasures Untold. We saw a darker glimpse of her in Eve of Samhain and the light has certainly shone on her in this book. She's tough, tenacious and could do with a good.......hug!!

Taylor needs more than just a few hugs to get her through life at the moment and she is certainly going to have to find her strength in the next book!

Jessica is a lovely spirited character that is dealt with a huge blow. She is an honorable and loyal friend to both Martha and Taylor.

Lucian is just a down right nasty bugger. Evil permeates from every pore his undead body has.

Gabriel, though still only a small side line character, will play a greater part in book 3. We also glimpsed him ever so slightly in Eve of Samhain. There is clearly a lot more to Gabriel and Lisa will certainly enlighten us in due course !

Eve of Samhain (book 1) was definately no YA novel. Pleasures Untold, however still not YA, could easily be enjoyed by both YA and adult readers alike. Change a few of the choice words and (God forbid) tone down the smexiness and this would be a hit across the board. Two very different writing styles from One talented author.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Pleasures Untold. I hope you all do to!

Pleasures Untold is the second story in Ms. Sanchez’s Hanaford Park series about paranormal activities on/near a college campus. Although Martha and her roommate Jessica appear in the first book, Eve of Samhain, the stories are independent of one another and can be enjoyed individually. As I stated in yesterday's review, I began reading this book immediately after finishing Eve of Samhain. I absolutely loved the first book of the Hanaford Park Series, and I was eager to read more from Lisa Sanchez.

I was super curious about Martha when I read Eve of Samhain and was super excited when I found out that she was going to have her own book. Martha's voice in Pleasures Untold took getting used to. I felt that her snarkiness and self-deprecating humor came off as a little forced and a bit much. Martha is very introverted and is used to living her life in the shadows. She uses the snarkiness to keep people at a distance. But I would hope that she would be a little more open with her roommates. As it happens, she does finally open and let herself be vulnerable. We find out secrets from Martha's past that are shocking and gives insight into the person she has become.

The one thing Martha does not anticipate is falling for sexy, latin, bartender Xan. Rawr! Martha isn't your typical boy crazy 21 year old college student. But there's something about Xan that makes her quiver. Her attraction to him is instantaneous. When she discovers that he's a vamp, one of the creatures that she vows to kill, the attraction doesn't fade. Xan isn't like most vamps and it has Martha questioning everything that she knows.

Pleasures Untold started off slow for me but has the plot developed and the pace picked up, I was engrossed in the story. It took me awhile to get used to Martha's voice. The snarkiness and self-deprecation was a little off-putting. I wanted to shake Martha. She is so strong and confident when she's fighting but when it comes to personal stuff, like her appearance and her "lack" of attractiveness, she is so down on herself and with no self-esteem. I had to continually remind myself that Martha is not all fluff and light. This was Martha's personality so I went with it. She has issues that she needs to work through. As Martha opens up more to her roommates and Xan, we see a more softer, gentler Martha who can still kick ass! Martha had plenty of great one-liners throughout the book that reminded me Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Pleasures Untold definitely had more heat than Eve of Samhain. There were plenty of plot twists and surprises that kept the story interesting. I loved the building relationship between Martha and Xan. And also her relationship with her roommates. Pleasures Untold ended with some things left unsettled which hopefully will be resolved in the next book. I can't wait!

There is an undeniable attraction between Xan and Martha, but Martha will keep fighting it due to her issues with vampires….but there are pleasures untold.

I was a fan of Martha’s when I read about her in Eve of Samhain, even though she was the creepy goth roommate, so I was excited to see the real Martha in Pleasures Untold. Little has changed for Martha, she has a new roommate and has become friendlier then she was before. I wasn’t a fan of Martha’s tone of voice, she seemed a little forced to me, her snark just wasn’t natural. But she does use it to keep people at a distance, so while it was forced it made sense for Martha’s character.

Pleasures Untold started a bit slow for me, but the pace did pick up and it got better! I like the way Ms. Sanchez writes, but I did have issues with Martha. She is a kick ass fighter but has little self esteem when it comes to friends and men, which was a tad off-putting to me. How can you kick ass but be so afraid to lose friends over something trivial? What I can tell you is Pleasures Untold has more heat then Eve of Samhain, hot hot hot people. Lisa Sanchez writes some smexy goodness!

Pleasures Untold is a sexy addition to the series, I love me some Xan.

This is Martha's book and she's on the hunt to kill every supernatural being in order to find the vampire who killed her family. While at the club with her roommates she meets Xan. He is superhot and just happens to be a vamp. Turns out he's been watching over Martha her whole life. I was glad the whole book wasn't devoted to Martha trying to come to terms with being in love with a vamp. That bridge was easily crossed. I had a great time reading , 'Pleasures Untold'. Lisa has such a vibe about her writing. I can tell Lisa had alot of fun writing this book it comes out in her playful, snappy wit that just seems to roll off her tongue as she writes. I found myself laughing from the first page at some of her dialogue.

My Thoughts:

Martha/Ainsley is a wonderful quirky heroine with all the insecurities of a 21 year old yet has the skill and determination of a talented witch. Her character was well rounded and easy to connect to..a much more likable character than the heroine in book 1. Xan is a definitely swoon worthy hero it was refreshing to see a hero who pretty much let his feelings for Martha be known from the beginning. He is strong and mature enough to allow Martha to be her own witch. The crafting of the story grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let up to the very end. The secondary characters stand up on their own and you know Gabriel and Taylor will have their own story and I can't wait to see what happens with Jess. What I truly found remarkable was that the continuity of the series is in the geography rather than the characters. Yes there was a mention of the characters in the first book but it was just in passing.

Solid 4 stars for Lisa Sanchez's Pleasures Untold...can't wait to get my hands on book 3!...

I recently read the first book in the Hanaford Park series and was not particularly taken with it, but I am glad to say that I enjoyed the second offering much more.

The two lead characters in this book came across much better than those in the first book. I enjoyed their interactions and found their motivations believable and engaging. Pleasures Untold brings us into her journey, as a now 21 year old, living with her roommates Jessica and Taylor. Their friendship seemed true and loving throughout this story. I felt that all 3 of these ladies had a deep connection and it was a nice touch. They had typical, fun times together and lots of funny moments.

Martha has always been a little closed off, and for good reason. She is afraid to get close to anyone. Since her friends know the truth about her powers, she can finally let her guard down around them but that's about as far as she wants to go. Then, suddenly she is faced with a vampire who shocks her after he saves her life. She's never seen a vampire who did anything but kill. But Xan is different and their bond runs deeper than Martha could have imagined.

Xan is an old, powerful hybrid vampire who wants nothing more than to watch over Martha. Although she can't figure out why, she feels herself being drawn towards Xan quickly. But her past soon catches up with her and she's faced with the demon who destroyed her family. A few parts I was able to pinpoint pretty quickly but it was still a great plot to follow. I was never at all bored while getting to know these characters. Xan's protective nature, and Martha's stubborn side made for the perfect love-hate relationship.

Martha and Xan were both interesting. I really enjoyed Martha in Eve of Samhain so I was thrilled to get the chance to hear her story. She was fierce and strong, loyal and loving when it came to her friends and her new interest, Xan. Another character I have to mention is Gabriel, a friend of Xan's. Something about him makes me want to know more. I really hope that he, and Taylor, will be discussed in future books.

Pleasures Untold carries on with the action-packed paranormal mysteries of Hanaford Park. Having the same group of characters pop up helped me feel more connected and invested in their stories. If you want a fascinating vampire-witchy love story, you gotta pick up this book!

Pleasures Untold is the second book in Lisa Sanchez's Hanaford Park series. I enjoyed the first book immensely so I was excited to finally get the chance to read the second. In her zeal to protect her friends from creepy beasts, she runs into a Latin hunk of love Xan--hijole--and feels quite an attraction. When he turns out to be a despised vampire, Martha's torn between her simultaneous attraction and repulsion.

I like Xan even better than Quinn, the hero of Eve of Samhain. Tortured Xan recognizes Martha's quite capable of caring for herself and doesn't try to take over the reins of her life. Tall dark and handsome, Xan whispering sweet-nothings in Spanish is a total turn-on!

Lisa Sanchez is a marvel at coming up with unique and hilarious turns of a phrase, like:

"Gen pop didn't know about the darker beings roaming the planet" (p. 30)

Describing a male newscaster with perfectly coiffed hair that would withstand any wind as "Tornado Hair" (p. 37)

Xan labeling Martha's set of ancient Scottish daggers pointed at him as her "Ginsu knives" (p. 87).

I also enjoyed Martha freaking out about George getting his face ripped off only to find out her roommate was crying about the season ending of Grey’s Anatomy, hee hee. I’m glad the ending wasn’t perfectly wrapped up, leaving an opening for the third novel which I assume will be about Taylor and Gabriel. I wish there was a little more character development for Xan and maybe Lucian, but Martha was well-drawn and likable.

Looking forward to reading more about the characters of Hanaford Park! Luckily Lisa Sanchez is a quick study at this writing thing and I’m guessing the wait won’t be too long.(less)

In Eve of Samhain one of the intriguing characters was Martha, the witch and I was keen to learn more about her. Through the Pleasure Untold we get the chance to learn more about her. Martha is a feisty woman who destroys all things evil, particularly vampires. She wants revenge on one particular vampire, Lucian, who had killed her mother. This all becomes a little wayward when she meets Xan, a sexy vampire who catches her heart and makes her think about her actions.

Lisa’s written another great book in the Hanaford Park series! While I do miss our sexy male lead from Eve of Samhain, Xan takes over where Quinn left off . . . YUMMY! Who wouldn’t love a delicious Latin vampire, eh?

nun zu dem zweiten Band der Serie:
Ich hab es ja nur gelesen weil mir das erste gefallen hat aber dieses hat das erste bei weitem geschlagen :)
Es ist viel mehr Spannung drin ohne das es zu überdreht wirkt.
Ich finde es klasse das die weiblichen Charaktere hier immer zu ihrem "Mann" stehen ohne als wehrloses Ding abgestempelt zu werden.
Freu mich aufs dritte Band.

i like the book but it was so similar to her first book. there were almost exact quotes from both books and both heroes treated their girl the exact same way. the heroin also both were so similar to each other. each book was good but i would have preferred to read them as of from a different author just because the books were so much alike

We finally get to see a side of Martha that I didn't think existed. I found the characters charming and down to earth, especially Martha with her stubborn snarky streak.

Another good one from Lisa. If you like touchy feely adult romance with lots of paranormal characters, a deadly threat by a totally evil bastard and life threatening action, it's all here, not to mention the gorgeous and devoted hero.
