AFTER THE CROSS by Brandon Barr and Mike Lynch is an interesting Christian Fi historical fiction. It has faith, mystery, intrigue,Archaeology, historical details, deceit, political ambitions, murder, violence, and flashbacks into a world hundreds of years in the past. While "Afer The Cross" starts out a little slow to me it picks up the pace nicely. These authors have given vivid descriptions and historical details throughout the story. The characters are easy to follow, strong, determined and will captur...more

I received After the Cross,by Mike Lynch and Brandon Barr, as a review copy submitted to “Red Adept Reviews” by the author.
Overall: 2 3/4 Stars
Plot/Storyline: 4 Stars
The book starts off with fast-paced tension, folds the main characters into the action, and takes off running. It slows in some places, but overall it’s like a lost film about Indiana Jones, and I’d much rather have watched this on the big screen than that Crystal Skull fiasco.

An fast-paced adventure to find the cross of Jesus, this book was a pleasant diversion from my normal romantically inclined readings. While there was some romance, the authors did a great job of taking me on a journey of epic proportions. It was very reminiscent of "Indiana Jones", but in a good way!

Colton Foster, once hailed as a renowned expert in Latin, Hebrew, and Greek, had his reputation destroyed when a shadowy antiquities dealer outwitted him with master forgeries from Solomon’s Temple. Ten years later, an 800-year-old letter is discovered in an excavation site in Turkey—the ancient library of Constantinople. Colton is thrown a lifeline when he is invited to form part of an archaeological team whose task it is to translate the letter, which purportedly reveals the location of the Cr...more

I got this review and read "archaeology adventure" that was all it took for my approval.
Archaeology absolutely!
The religion side of this didn't even register right away.
I know absolutely nothing about religious history, or dates important events happened. Therefore I am in no position to judge those aspects of the story.
They may or may not be accurate.
However, this book is easily read by those with no religious background.
This book made me ask a question no other book has made me ask...more

After the Cross is the first book that have read by Brandon Barr. I found it to be very well written. After the Cross is the search for the Cross upon which Christ was crucified. It had been saved rather than destroyed.
This is obviously a book written with a Christian tone to it. It is the struggle to do what is what is right... the unbeliever who see the faith of another and struggles to let go and believe. There is archeology, bad guys, the good guys, and the ever present believe in the sacri...more

After the Cross is an enjoyable thriller, in the tradition of Dan Brown: intellectuals running around and getting into dangerous situations related to their academic interests. Although, the fact that these particular academics are looking for the cross of Jesus' crucifixion gives an extra Christian theme, which gets a little heavy in places (but then, in the world of this novel, miracles really do happen).

After the Cross has a little bit of everything for every reader. There is mystery, history, and a little bit of romance. There is suspense, danger, violence, and a journey of self discovery.
There was a bit of shifting POV and I know for some people that can get confusing, but in this book it was beautifully executed and well organized so as not to detract from the story at all.

my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, anyone looking for a good adventure story

Without a doubt, Barr and Lynch make a good team. There's not too many Christ-centered stories that deal with both archeology and church history, which blended together quite well. Furthermore, one didn't draw out the other -- they both seemed balanced, which didn't make me feel as if I was being turned away from the main story. Whenever the charcaters were going through something, I felt for them -- like when Colton's fiancée called off their relationship early on the book. I'm not gonna reveal...more
