I really liked this book because I'm a dog lover and i think Bill Wallace is a great author. This book is of a boy who hates dogs ever since he was attacked by one. Even though the puppy is tiny and skinny, with sad brown eyes and a friendly, wagging tail, Rick(the boy) doesn't want it hanging around the farm. The barn cats hate to share food with the puppy and it looks as if the puppy will starve to death unless someone comes to rescue. Ricky may be afraid of dog, but he doesn't want to see one...more

A Dog Called Kitty (a strange name for a dog but oh well) is about a 10 year old boy named Ricky who is absolutely terrified of BIG scary dogs (its OK Ricky I am too!) and has been ever since he had a extra scary dog attack he had when he was little. Ricky moves to a farm and gets settled in until he meets a innocent looking brown scruffy dog that nobody could resist! Ricky is still scared of the small puppy and the dog causes no harm especially cause he is homeless. Small scruffy brown dog begi...more

Oh wow, this was my most favorite book when I was a kid! I must have read this book literally HUNDREDS of times growing up. I remember I had an autographed copy of the hardcover edition. I obtained it when I met Mr. Wallace when he came to my school when I was in third or fourth grade. I think it had just been published. This book was the beginning of my love affair with reading. Thinking about it, I am now sad that I don't know what happened to my autographed copy.

I very highly recommend this b...more

A dog called kitty is a great book! The main character Rickey has hated dogs ever since he got attacked when he was just little. But he cant resist a stray dog skinny dirty those doggy brown eyes. Ricky DOES NOT want this dog just hanging around the farm though! The cats wont share the food with this poor dog so he is going to have to starve to death until Ricky actually thinks to feed him! So Ricky thought of a plan he will feed the dog get it back to normal then run it off! Can Rickey overcome...more

I read this book to my 9 and 6 year olds. My 6 year old wanted to read it because of the title. She didn't end up liking it at all and stopped listening before we finished. I didn't like it either. Though I realize it is told by a child, the grammar is so awful that if I didn't edit it as I read, neither of my children could understand what Rickey was saying. Also, most of the relationships in the story are somewhat dysfunctional and almost frightening. Things that were meant to be completely no...more

I read A Dog Called Kitty in second grade, and it stayed as my favorite book for years and years and years and years. That's how AWESOME it was. I haven't read it in a wicked long time because I left it at my house when I was moving ( stupid!) But I remember very well, because uh, it was my favorite book, and because I've read it like 50 times.
A Dog Called Kitty is about a boy, Ricky, who is afraid and hates dogs ( gasp!!!! ) because he was attacked by a rabid one ( but then, if I was mauled by...more

I believe I first read this book when I was in middle school. And, yes, I cried. I've re-read it a number of times since then because it's a fast read; one quiet afternoon is all it takes. And, yes, I still cry. I'm a sucker for stories like these. I still have the original book from middle school and hope that my son & daughter read it, too.

Seriously I loved this book. I wore out my own as a kid and when a friend was getting ready to move (in high school) I saw that she had a copy and now have hers. I cried so hard.....

I give this book a three star rating because It wasn't good enough. The book wasn't funny, adventurous, with action,or scary. It was more of a sad story, and I don't like a lot sad stories. At the beggining it had some action but still , it didn't make you to want to read more. Also, the book went too slow and you got really bored, and it didn't describe much. The only thing that I really liked about this book is that you never got lost, it didn't confuse you and it was really descriptive.

I was first introduced to this book in about the third grade, when my elementary school in Oklahoma had Bill Wallace out to speak to the students. He ended up doing this for another three years or so and it was always a big deal. I loved that guy then, and his books now are still near and dear to me.

"Kitty" in my child's mind was Benji. I didnt relate well to Ricky, the little boy afraid of dogs but lived on a farm, but I loved when Ricky and Kitty finally pulled it together. I liked the Grandp...more

A Dog Called Kitty is the best book I have ever read the main characters are Ricky and Kitty. At the beginning Ricky is terrified of dogs because when he was a baby he got attached by one and almost killed. He still has the scars to prove it. One day a little puppy came wondering onto the farm and he was starving to death and Ricky didn't want anything to do with him. They both take big steps through out the story to become friends and at they end they accomplish the steps and they become best f...more

This book was the mother of all books. This book started my love for reading and I have been searching for it and I finally found it! I love this book it's adorable and heart wrenching. It's just everything you look for in a good book.

Well, of course I had to read this book! I've been wanting to name one of our dogs Kitty for years. (My wife, being much more practical than I, has always nixed the idea.)

All of the feels. All of them.

I remember this so well from when I was small, and as much as it traumatized me, I would still love to have a copy to give to my children!

How could I resist when the cover is so adorable? Look at the puppy, and tell me he isn't cute. And he's called Kitty, so can I get an 'aaawh' already?
Oh, well. It turned out to be an 'okay' book. I know some parts were meant to be kind of emotional but I didn't drop even the tiniest tear. Mind you, I am pretty emotional and can cry so easily but this book just didn't make me feel like crying at all. And sadly, for the adventures I also didn't feel excited; for the fights I didn't feel upset or...more

I chose this book because i read a few pages and it seemed okay to read. In the book a stray dog showed up at a barn where Ricky lives. Ricky tortures the dog at first, but the dog began to grow on him and he took care of Kitty. My favorite quote is "That's what i'd tell him, i'd tell him, but i knew he wouldn't believe me. Its my favorite quote because even though Ricky doesn't like the dog,the dog loves Ricky. the writing style is harsh and painful towards the dog. The point of view is from Ri...more

The puppy was cute and fuzzy, but Ricky was afraid of any dog. Even the most cute and harmless dogs he was afraid of. He had always been afraid since the time he was attacked by a mad dog. That was long ago when he was a baby, but can this pup change him into liking dogs?

Reasons I like this book-

Reason 1- The book has a dog in it.

Reason 2- The book is about a boy learning a dog is truly man's best friend.

Reason 3- When Kitty is a young pup, the barn cats try to starve him by not sharing their sc...more
