She finds the creature woven within it compelling and frightening. I honestly would not want to be a mother in the fictional book world because they always seem to die. Their life expectancy is very short after giving birth to a heroine in a novel. Women are supposed to live longer than men but if you go by all the books then really the men have one up on women. I think sometimes the death of a mother can contribute to a story. (Okay, I know that sounded like a completely insensitive thing to say but hear me out.) Something like that can really change how a cha...more

I was so ready to love this book. Ever since I first read the premise- unicorns, enchanted tapestry, a young nobleman pulled roughly from his time, and thrust into Tessa’s- I was intrigued. I will say I was worried I wouldn’t like it, that it might not live up to my expectations and could end up being a flop, but I was pleasantly surprised, because I actually did like it. In fact, I loved it. It doesn’t garner a five star rating, but there was a certain enchantment within the story, that while i...more

Amazing!! *sings*
I loved this book!! The story was so unique to anything I've read and the characters were simply fun and fantastic! Tessa's life is one that I wouldn't mind having myself, either, she lives in a bookstore for a start, has a completely rockin best friend, and then of course there's Will..*swoon* So hot! Will captivated me from the start, I'm already a sucker for the accents, but the old fashioned air about him and mysterious way in which he came into Tessa's life..Loved Him!

Reading Warped was like eating the best kind of comfort food; it left me feeling cozy and happy. When I was in upper elementary and middle school I loved reading fantasies of all kinds, but especially stories with unicorns. This isn’t a unicorn story, of course, but it still holds the elements of fantasy that I love. There are quite a few fantasy novels out there, but Warped quenched my thirst for what I’ve been missing all these years.

I need to give major kudos to Tessa and Opal’s friendship. O...more

Warped is a beautifully written debut novel, it's a captivating fantasy with a fairy-tale-esque feel.

Initially we are introduced to the Norns.... or the Sisters of Fate if you will. Weaving together the fabric of life. Decided when your particular thread of life has fullfilled it's purpose. The Sisters had several strands stolen and they will stop at nothing to get them back!

And then we are introduced to Tessa. Tessa's dad owns a bookstore...... that they live above. How awesome is that. I gue...more

Although I really love a storyline that is centered around the three Norns/Fates who live at the foot of the world tree Yggdrasil, I didn't like the way the story proceeded. It's just too straight and there are no real surprises in this story at all: one got the ill-fated lovers, the best friend, the sympathetic father and late mother, the evil witch/hag with her assistant and a little bit of timetravel mixed together with some divine and mysterious figures!

The trouble is simply that I felt like...more

This has got to be one of the most intriguing and original YA fiction books that I've read. While the genre is buzzing with books about vampires, werewolves, fallen angels, dystopia settings, Maurissa Guibord has distinguished herself from the other authors out there with her debut novel on tapestry, magic and unicorns. The world she has crafted is simply riveting and unique.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and its premise, especially with the Three Fates, an ancient tapestry and a 16th century no...more

As I expand my reading repertoire more and more each year, it's getting harder and harder to judge young adult books. Some actually rise to standards held in general fiction with superb writing, masterful storytelling, and stellar characterization. However. . .not many manage this great feat. It's very difficult to take an idea, no matter how wonderful or innovative, and shape it into a novel that keeps every reader engrossed. Sadly, this is not that novel. If you're expecting something to grip...more

Tessa Brody doesn't believe in magic. Or Fate. But there is definitely something weird about the dusty unicorn tapestry that she discovers in a box of old books. The wild, handsome creature woven within it draws Tessa, and frightens her too.

Soon after the tapestry comes into her possession strange things begin to happen. Tessa experiences vivid dreams of the past and scenes from a brutal hunt. When she accidentally pulls a thread...more

Romance
Tessa is a young girl who works with her father in a local bookstore. At the beggining of the story she comes accross a tapestry with a beautiful unicorn on it. Upon bringing it home and through a series of strange dreams and visions about the tapestry, she one day pulls a loose thread from the fabric and magically releases a young handsome boy named William De Chaucy. Over time she learns that he was sealed in the fabric from a witch who stole his "life thread" and reworked him...more

I bought this book because of the great reviews on Amazon (when I ordered it, it had only 4 and 5 star reviews, which is pretty much unheard of) and the stunning cover. It had an interesting premise, even if I don't normally like time travel or "reincarnation" stories. But so many YA novels are too similar these days so I was willing to try something new.

Overall the plot is good. It's unlike anything I've ever read before. It seemingly has it all, a strong heroine, a dashing hero, a twisted vil...more

Having haggled with an older lady at an auction, Tess now finds herself the proud owner of a couple of boxes of old books and an extra crate that contains a unicorn tapestry. After hanging it in her room she starts having odd dreams and memories of a unicorn hunt from a whole different time period. The Norns, who spin threads of Fate, are especially ticked off having suspected Tess of stealing seven threads from them. Tess doesn't remember this, and what happens when she does pull a thread from...more

’ve wanted to read “Warped’ for awhile and finally reached it on my to-be-read pile. After reading it I wish I would have got to it sooner. This book is absolutely fresh. It’s full of unexpected turns and new twists on classic tales. From the mythical fates to the mystical unicorn it was something I’d never read before. I’ve always shied away from books involving unicorns but Maurissa has created a wondrous tale in which the unicorn aspect is important and flows seamlessly within the story. I en...more

When Tessa's father buys an ancient-looking tapestry, she immediately senses a connection to it - strange dreams begin to disturb her sleep and visions of forests and fear haunt her when she's awake. On the day that she takes a singular thread from the tapestry and gently pulls, not only does the world as she know it begin to unravel, but she is suddenly smack in the middle of a battle between the Fates, one tapestry-weaving witch and a young man from the Middle Ages whose own story seems inexpl...more

Cute. Great Mythology and modern day cross over. Loved the weaving and thread-like stuff theme, which only left me confused as to why the title was not even remotely weave or thread related. I think 'Unraveled' would have been a much better fit for this book. At least the cover art fit the theme well. Plot was a little too action heavy and therefore light on the character for me, and the conflicts felt a little too romance-style reactionary (love him one minute and hate him the next), which is n...more

A frothy romance that is best read in a coffee house atmosphere and I mean that in the best kind of way!
This is a great escapism book that deals with time travel, the Fates, unicorn tapestries, and old bookstores. What more can a girl on Spring Break ask for... maybe a hot British guy?
Well Warped has one of those too!
We first meet Tessa at an auction, where her father is interested in buying a box of books that have come on the market. Inside this box is a tapestry of a unicorn that draws Tes...more

Warped was a 3.5 star for me. I liked the idea of the Norn and the three hooded creepy sisters being the weaver of our lives. Tessa was annoying. I literally wanted to jump inside the story and hit her head with her tennis racket. I mean, couldn’t she see that Gray Lily had to be close to someone to take away their thread. Couldn’t she figure out that the ring she wore had something to do with it? Okay, yeah she was panicked but she just stood there watching Will disappear and that too twice!!!!...more

BEST THING: Okay, this is kinda weird, but I LOVED the Tessa's real name - Tesseract. I love the Madeleine L'Engle books and I thought that this fit so well, especially with all of the time-warp aspects.

I thought that this was a good, easy read. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that I wasn't sure that this was something that I wanted to read. It ended up being a thoughtful book that made me smile. The writing was easy, a good lazy Sunday read for me. I think that might have been my only l...more

Unusual book! I enjoyed the storyline. When a mysterious tapestry arrives with a carton of books purchased by her father at auction, the adventures begin. Tessa Brody unknowingly releases the spirit of Will de Chaucy, a 16th century nobleman who had been trapped in the tapestry by an evil old woman. The story unfolds as Tessa and William try to figure out how the events occurred. The book is a fantasy tale interwoven with romance and a bit of suspense.

Tessa struggles with her mother’s death and...more

This book was pretty awesome. You have to get out of the traditional YA paranormal though, and let yourself be taken in this new kind of fairy tale paranormal. The characters are instantly likeable and the plot follows through till the end. Since Warped is mostly plot driven, the character's don't exactly evolve so much as cope. Tessa has a strong character from the beginning, Will is hot and medieval, and the kickass sidekick Opal is just that. Guibord has the romance and enough teaser moments...more

Disappointing. I had high hopes for this books, and it started off reasonably well. However, it had a huge (boring) saggy middle and too much of the plot required that I suspend disbelief too much.

The dialogue was forced and corny. I think that certain elements were supposed to be funny, but they ended up just being stupid. For example… A five hundred year old crone tries to use modern facial cream and hair weaves to improve her appearance. Uh… Yeah.

I felt like the scenes between the hero and he...more

Debut author Maurissa Guibord's time travel novel has lots of elements likely to appeal to her target teen readers: a gorgeous cover, plenty of romance, adventure, danger, humor, suspense, an evil witch, a handsome nobleman, a unicorn, dragon, giant snake, a quaint bookshop setting--and oh yes, time travel! Well, I never said "realism" was one of the elements!

The story centers on Tessa, a "normal" teenage girl who discovers there's something weird about an old unicorn tapestry her bookseller fa...more

When Tessa discovers the unicorn tapestry in a box of old books, she’s intrigued by it from the minute her fingertips touch the material. When she pulls a loose thread on the tapestry, she unravels an ancient spell…and releases a really hot 16th century nobleman’s son from the enchantment that has trapped him in unicorn form. Soon Tessa finds her life--and the lives of those she cares about—threatened as she challenges the sinister Grey Lily to save William de Chaucy’s life.

Warped opens with Tessa and her dad at an auction house bidding on some books and what seems like a random tapestry. After winning the bid she starts to examine the tapestry and the book that was wrapped in it and her life takes a sudden plunge for the strange as she starts seeing visions and having dreams of a different time.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. For the past two days I’ve been trying to figure out just what I enjoyed, I can’t pinpoint it exactly but here are a few things:

This book is very simple, but it's great in its simplicity. The plot is well thought out, the two main characters are well rounded. Basically the book is a great quick read that will leave a smile on your face. You can't guess what's going to happen next, but there now big shockers. It's a great book to read over again. Plus the guy when described is very good-looking( HOT!!!!). =) This book has great writing, some of the scenes you can't help but laugh at.
