This started out very promising, I love any psychic crime-fighting institution premis. That's not really what this turned out to be though. Also, I suppose I didn't see the M/M/M/F, because when Reily turned out to be a girl I was a little thrown off. But I got over that and started to like the character. It's when the story went from being about this guy who just got out of a coma and is seeing his loved ones, to being about this chick surrounded by three hot guys, that my attention waned.

A unique story, well-developed plot, interesting characters and undeniable chemistry come together to make GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST an enjoyable read.

Torrin, a psychic federal agent, wakes up from a coma to find that 4 years of his life has gone by, and it seems the world has gone on without him. Once a part of a psychic triad that also was a loving menage, his two partners, Sky and Riley, have moved on together. His handler, another psychic, Quintus has been there for Torrin in more ways than he can imagine, and he has more than a few secrets he's holding on to.

Now that Torrin is awake he has to go into witness protection in order to testify against the bad guys that put him in the coma, but he wants the chance to see those he loves one more time. They meet at a safe house right before Christmas, but no one is sure if they can move on after 4 lost years. A snowstorm leaves all of them struck together, and secrets, desires, and emotions come forth. Ultimately, they may find that four can become one.

This novella has a very interesting concept--psychic federal agents, all with unique abilities, such as telekinesis, empathy, psychometrics. They work for a group called PsiCorps, and this is the first book of a series with the same name. There is a good amount of suspense in the plot as the main characters try to figure out who is after Torrin. The relationship aspect of the story was interesting as well. There is M/M interaction, as well as M/F, and M/M/F/M too--I will note here that there was no actual M/M intercourse though. The chemistry between them explodes right off the pages.

The world is a bit different in this book as polyamory and bisexuality are very commonplace, so it was nothing for the four main characters to be with each other in all configurations. Speaking of the world in the story, it had a bit of a futuristic flair to it although the world wasn't so different that I thought that it was set hundreds of years forward. If a story could be contemporary and futuristic at the same time, I would say GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST fits the bill.

My only complaint was that some of the dialogue was a bit over my head. There was a lot of technical speak without enough explanation, in my opinion. There were several times where I had to read a sentence over again a few times just to get the gist of what the author was trying to say. It disrupted the flow of an otherwise well-paced story.

One interesting thing about the book was that even though there were all types of interactions throughout, there weren't many sex scenes in the book--really only one, but there were plenty of "love" scenes. The feelings that the main characters had for each other were so evident. It was hard to read at some points because I really hurt for them and what they went through. However, there was a wonderful HEA that made all the struggle worth it in the end. There was a bit of a hanging story line at the end, so I'm looking forward to reading more of the series to see how it develops.(less)

This story was one of the more emotionally demanding I've read. The emotional bond between the characters was at times almost overwhelming. the relationship between all of the lead characters was well balanced and communicated to the reader in easily understood language. Some if the technical jargon was confusing, but I was able to grasp the underlying meaning. Wow! What a great read! Would have given 5 stars, but I got a little lost sometimes with the Psi stuff. A little mystery is good, but I think the writing could have been a little clearer in some places. Loved the relationships and the relationship revelations. Great read from an author I will be reading more of.

Not your typical romance story. I really enjoyed it, once I got the characters sorted out in my mind. The pain, angry and loss that each felt without the others was very evident. But they were able to work through it and come together in the end, to experience a wonderful event that solidified them as a unit.
