"Der Tod in Venedig und andere Erzählungen", a collection of shorter prose by Thomas Mann, includes six stories on the themes of religion, holyness, writing and love.

Expecting an utter classic, I was intrigued, amused and entertained, if a bit disappointed, by the title story. Everybody knows that 'Death in Venice' features an aging writer of renown who becomes infatuated with a fourteen year old upper class Polish boy at a tourist resort near Venice.

This book is worth reading again every decade or so.

Very well written.

Erstaunlich.

Thomas Mann, what can I say, apart from the fact that he is a genius. I think there is just as much please in reading his work in English, seems to work just as well - sometimes better as the verb of the sentence isn't two pages away from where the sentence began.

very good collection of stories. mann's aesthetic is really quite amazing and one loses oneself in his weird little universe of made up words.

Only read Der Tod in Venedig so far, none of the other stories. It is interesting and a bit creepy.
