Definitely not one of Nora Roberts best books but an enjoyable read nonetheless. Hot Ice is the tale of a thief and an heiress thrown together by chance on a quest to find a hidden cache of jewels. The majority of the story takes place in Madagascar and the description of the location is exquisite. With plenty of detail, I was able to immerse myself as if I were traveling with Doug and Whitney. Definitely not one of my favorites from Roberts. I just couldn't get into the story line and I really disliked the characters. Whitney was just too cold and acted too much like a prima donna and Doug was just irritating. Trying to act noble when he really was just a thief.
And the idea of keeping a running total of how much he owed her really irritated me at parts. I mean, when how much someone owes someone else is brought up right in the middle or right before a sex scene.. come on.

And if you're ok with cheese, it's not a bad book. My chief complaint is that they eat a lot of mangoes in this book...here's a quote...Pulling out a mango, he took a big, greedy bite. And they never peel them. Obviously the author has never eaten a mango. And that bugs me, because I love mangos, and...geesh, do a little research. But I guess mangos were more exotic in the 80s, and most readers didn't know you had to peel them.
So anyway.... think Romancing the S More...

I am absolutely biased on this book, because I love it and always will. It was the first Nora Roberts book I read, and remains my favorite. I love this book, it reminds me so much of Romancing the Stone, and it mentions all kinds of cheesy 80's music that I love. It's just a fabulous adventure with a side of hot romance, with an awesome, fearless (or she convinces everyone she is, anyway), heroine, a spectacular Charming Rogue, and just so much fun.

I read this years ago. It was a throw in Christmas gift from my sister who LOVES Nora Roberts. She has me reading her now too. I do like a good romance, so long as it's written well and Nora Roberts can write a good story. This is one of those books that you should read when life is kind of stressful. Why, you ask, because it's a no brainer and not alot of thinking involved. It's just a nice story line with cute characters.

Wow, has Nora Roberts ever gotten better in the last twenty years! I used to love her "two-word title" books which were always her mystery/romance books. I could barely make it through my 2006 re-read of "Hot Ice"! It was so repetitive, all the characters smoked a lot, and they were just dumb. What thief just gives out his name and travels with his own papers when being pursued by a Mafia God?

Less suspenseful and more outlandish, but a tried a true romance of it's era. Rich playgirl hooks up with a thief on the run through a bit of excitement seeking and then ends up running with him to capture the ultimate treasure before the man hunting them. Along the way, there are mishaps and near-misses that finally result in her Daddy coming along. Sad but true.

The girls starts off shallow for a second but then becomes whitty. Thats the only thing I liked about this book. The main guy was a theif whos name was doug or douglas- doesn't seem like the right name. The bad guys were typical bad guy names like Remo and Barns and Demitri. I know that doesn't matter but it bugged me.

I absolutly love this book! I fell in love with the cunning theif, Mr.Douglas Lord. I find the love/hate relationship between him and Whitney MacAllister absolutley interesting and I just love the way they both tried to one up each other. I plan on keeping this book near so I can read the sections I fell in-love with through out the book.

I have read many Nora Roberts and usually grow bored after a few pages because many, many of the books are all the same idea. This one was great. It wasn't the usual magical, sisters/friends/strangers, love story. It had action and intrigue in it. I would actually read it again.

Sometimes it was funny but mostly it was old. Old clichés and old jokes about the wealthy and the thief. If Whitney (the heroine) was supposed to be so smart, why did she act so stupid when it was serious troubles? Nah. Not my cup of tea.

I stopped reading this after a while. It was too unreal, even for a story that is supposed to be kind of unreal.
