It has been such a long time ago since I read this book. I still remember so much of it though. It was really good, and it really kept me interested,minteresting personalities. I started the second one but didn't finish it, because I was really busy with school. But maybe I should start reading that second one again. And just start over with the second book. Three hundred pages of boredom until you get to the good part. I do admit the last chapters were exciting and impressive...However, this story is not a typical VC Andrews book. I am a die hard fan, but I don't think VC Andrews gave enough notes to the ghost writer. When I think of Melody I think of an empty place setting with her name on it. Since my Andrews-based book reviews are (like her/the estate's novels) generally exactly the same thing over and over again, I've just decided to save myself half the work and repost my last Andrew-based book review, with some minor alterations. I bought 10 books by VC Andrews on special after a friend gushed about them and I realised that I should expand my library. I should read more widely as I realised that a lot of friends do not share my paranormal passions.

Melody a girl thrown into her fathers side of the family since he died. Only because her mother Haille has her own selfish reasons for wanting to be famous. I very much dislike Haille and the way Melody seems to be so protective of a mother that is very irresponsible. And Aunt Sara focuses so much energy on making Melody into her dead daughter Laura its scary. I feel especially sorry for Aunt Sara's other two children May and Cary who have to suffer in the background silently forgotten. I don't...more

While Melody wasn't as good as the Casteel, Cutler, and Dollanganger series, it was still a good read, and a decent series. Melody has a lot of enemies, and secrets to contend with, but she shows to be a fine young lady with a good backbone, and was overall a good heroine in face of what she had to deal with.

I think this is a kind of book that came from or must be made in to a soap opera. It has this drama that will move the viewers. I swear. Upon reading the book, I have to stop once in a while to get a hold on to myself because of the happenings. It's like watching my favorite afternoon drama series with my grandmother when I was young.
I just think it's unnecessary for the author to kill the characters who didn't make such appearance yet very significant to the story just to add some spice to it....more

I think this may have been the very first V.C. Andrews books I ever picked up. I was very young and just loved this. I wanted to become a writer because of this book and the subsequent books that followed in this series and the entire V.C. Andrews bibliography. I saved all my babysitting money so that I could buy each 5 book series at a time and spent a lot of money in my youth to buy all her books. V.C. Full of drama and intensity - perfect for my 12 year old self. If you can look past the average writing and recycled plot, you might enjoy this and the author's other books as light reading. If you're looking to grow or expand your mind, this is not the book for you. Full on guilty pleasures. Personally, these books are what got me into reading, and they are the equivalent of "comfort food" to me.
This book was messed up in so many ways, Melody's mother married her first cousin and got pregnant with Melody for some man who is a hermit and loves to paint, and the man that Melody thought was her father her whole life was actually her own cousin. V.C. Andrews books are always addicted to read even though all her stories have rape, death, secrets, lies, scandals and incest.
I remember reading Andrews' novels as a teenager and loving them. In fact, I would devour the novels and could hardly wait for the next to come out. As an adult, reading Melody along with the next two in the Logan series(5) has taken me back to the late 80's/early 90's and I must say has been a great "blast from the past". Comfort reading at its best.
Not at all what I expected, the events were a little predictable but that made it easy to sit back and follow how Melody navigated the web of lies in her life. It's hard not to like Melody, great character. I was surprised, read it mostly to get a look at VC Andrews writing style and walked away wanting to get straight onto the next one.
Read it when I was young... captivating at that time as a young reader... but looking back now it was just very typical of V.C. Andrews- reoccurant themes with similar plots- even though this one was ghost written as she was dead at the time. Given all this, it was still an enjoyable read.
This was very similar to other VCA novels and a bit predictable, but I still loved it nonetheless. I felt that Melody was a very likable character (just like most V.C heroines in my opinion). I also really liked Cary too and wish their relationship would of gone a bit further (but maybe it does in the next books which I still need to read). Basically, this is just another great VCA book :)
The logan series is a wonderful drama series by vc andrews. she knows how to twist a tail of deception lies lust love drama sadness fear and many other emotions. you will know the main character as if she was you... quite enjoyable!
Why is this book, a book? I am so creeped out how they downplayed the whole incest thing. I'm downplaying it by referring to it as 'incest thing,' the central couple, the people we are supposed to be rooting for in this "love-story" are COUSINS. C O U S I N S. Augh. Auhhhhgnn. Just, why? Why is this okay?
VC Andrews has always been a favorite of mine since my childhood days. I have read (and re-read) all of her books, and although I am much older now and find that some of her work is better than others, I still enjoy the twists and turns, strangeness and mystery that continues to captivate my interest. (even some of the ghostwriter's work)
The only really interesting, different thing about this particular series was the fact that it took place in New England, somewhere near Boston. It was interesting to read about the area where I grew up through the eyes of V.C. Andrews. I also recall a part where Melody visits a 16-sided house and there are some interesting facts about 16-sided houses (something like there are only 16 in the country?) - which is funny because there is a 16-sided house in my hometown of Townsend, MA. The story is really twisted, and i'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series, it just seems to be made for a younger crowd that why i gave it three stars, but it was an enjoyable read, and I do plan on reading the other books, cause this family have so major skeletons in its closet thats for sure.
I read the earlier V.C. Andrews books when I was growing up. I think they helped to prepare me for what I could find behind closed doors while completing assessments as a social worker...:)
The logan family series was and is my all time favorite from V.C. Andrews, it made me tear up and fall in love with the story it was the best series and I recomened everyone to read it!

I read this book the summer of seventh grade when I was grounded for most of it. Iggy kept me occupied and made me a fan of vc andrews.
Haha! I actually remember liking this series. Or at least, wanting to read all of the books because I wanted to see how the story unfolded.

This was a good book for the beginning of a series. There are always things left untold and revelations that keep the book going.
