Close Race in the Opening Round of the 2011 Goodreads Choice Awards!

200,000 votes cast so far! »
Rooting for an underdog? Don't miss your chance to vote for your favorite books in the 2011 Goodreads Choice Awards! You can select one of the 15 nominees in 22 categories or write in a vote for any book published before November 30 of this year. However, write-ins will no longer be accepted past the Opening Round, so spread the word now and get your friends to the polls by the end of this week! When we tally up the Opening Round, the top five write-in votes in each category will become official nominees. The Semifinal Round launches November 14 when all Goodreads members will be able to vote again for what will then be 20 nominees in each category.
With 200,000 votes cast in just the first week, we've already surpassed the 157,000 total votes cast during the 2010 Goodreads Choice Awards—and there are still three weeks left to vote! Despite the sheer number of voters, it's a tight race in many categories, with margins as narrow as a dozen votes between 1st and 2nd place.
Stay tuned for the final elimination round on November 21. We will whittle the field to the top 10 books in each category, and you will have one last chance to vote. Final Round voting closes November 30, and winners will be announced in December.

Tease! When I read the headline I thought we'd get an idea of the close races. :)

I wonder how close it will be!? Vote for The Sisters Grimm!!(Michael Buckley) And Peter Nimble (Jonathan Auxier)The Inside StoryetcPeter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes
Since there are certainly books published in November and December that might be worthy of consideration, wouldn't it make more sense to have this voting take place in January?
So..it won't let me nominate a book that was published after nov 30th of last year because it's not 2011, so I assume all books published in December don't count towards the awards..ever?

voting for young adult books i think was harder than all of the other sections because all of the possible nominated books were my favorites, but i love voting for books!!!!
