Announcing Goodreads for iPad!
Posted by Ettore on August 23, 2011
Curling up in bed, toting on vacation, or even Web surfing while on the can—a recent study reveals that tablet owners, such as iPad aficionados, love the portability of the device. Thirty-five percent admit to tablet use in the bathroom. No matter where you might be, we're pleased to announce that Goodreads now has an iPad app! This new release (version 1.4) takes advantage of the iPad's bigger screen, making your Goodreads experience much more enjoyable. Now you can see more of your updates, your discussion topics, and, of course, your books. This is only the first release we plan to do for the iPad - we know there is a lot more we can do to improve the experience.
Perhaps the biggest advantage is in the embedded ebook reader. Goodreads has a vast catalog of ebooks, and the iPad is definitely one of the best devices on which to read them! Check out a free classic like Jane Eyre or purchase one of the many ebooks for sale on the site.
We've also improved the barcode scanner and completed our Italian localization efforts. In case you were wondering, this is a "universal" release, which means the same app can run on iPhones, iPods, and iPads alike. In other words, all iOS devices can take advantage of these enhancements.
So, please head over to the App Store to download Goodreads for your iPad!

*sigh* i've always wanted an iPad and for free? can't go better then that!!!plus it'll be better for some of us~! XD
haha i would love to finally read some good books with out annoying my dad to go to Chapters and buy me some books ;)
I don't really see the point of this. I'm not sure why iPad and other tablet users can't just use the main site.
finally! i have been waiting for this forever! i wonder when (or if) it will be available for the blackberry...
This is great! But now I'm sad because the Great Chinese Firewall blocks me from accessing GR on my iPad.
Looooove you! Thank you! Off to download it and give it a try. Yay! :DETA: Works like a charm! Diggin' it!
This is great, thank you!!! I'm loving it so far. The only problem I've come across is that it doesn't hide spoilers like on the website. It just shows the spoiler html tags and the text (except for one where it said the spoiler had been deleted).
Thank you, i have an ipad and looking forward to using it on it although i use it on my HTC Desire and love the barcode
Ralph wrote: "I don't really see the point of this. I'm not sure why iPad and other tablet users can't just use the main site."Because the site isn't optimized for them...? The font sizes are weird in the main version, not all the options are available on the mobile version, and mainly, there are ads all down the right side which don't show up on the app.
Does anyone know if there will be a way to sync ebooks that you already have (Google eBooks, for ex.) to the Goodreads app and use that as an eReader? I would *love* that - my mom owns an independent bookstore that offers ebooks through Google and I would love to support the store through that.
I was using the iPhone app for a while and ended up just going back to the NON mobile version of the site on the iPad browser. I'll give this one a try, but if it is anything like the phone app, half of what I needed wasn't available. I use GoodReads to keep track of my own books, true, but more often to participate in discussions, and need the app to work for that as well!

I downloaded this app and i have a few questions. Is there an option to add new books? (not to one's shelfs but generally) I can't find it.
Where can i add tags to my books - is there a menu i'm missing?
When adding tags through the web browser i can't scroll down through the tags (i've got a lot of tags but can see only a few). The page is scrolling but the tags list is not. Does anyone experience similiar problems on their ipad?
Update: I figured out some things by myself and edited the post :)
Subaru, sorry, adding a book to GR is not available on the iOS (or Android) apps. Same thing for the tags handling.

That great! Any thoughts to adding one for the Nook? I love my Nook and would love to have them both together.
Karen, yeah we had a Nook Color app but there have been a few issues on the B&N app store. The Nook Color app should be coming back soon.
I'm really, really disspointed with this app.
How about a new interface for the larger screen instead of just making the iPod/iPhone app bigger?
I'm back to using Safari.
It's easier.
Like, I'm sorry to say, but this app isn't worth downloading.
I can't even keep track of all my groups.
The app doesn't look as good as the iPhone/iPod touch one.
I'm really sorry, and I love GR, but this isn't for me.
