It's January, the time for New Year's Resolutions. At Goodreads, many of us hope to read more this year. Join us by entering the 2011 Reading Challenge!
To date, we have more than 20,000 people participating, with a total goal of more than 1.7 million books across all users! And users have already read more than 39,000 books in 2011 toward their goals.

This is awesome. I've always wondered how long it takes me to read a certain amount of books, and now I'll know.
As of now, there are 8 people who have already completed the challenge. Wow, they must have set a goal of reading only one book, LOL.
I'd love to see people set the goal of 111 in 2011 :) (unless you're going above that number that is!)
Already read 10 out my goal of 200. Will not be able to keep this pace though, lol, but will reach my goal.
Best idea ever! My goal is actually lower than 2010 because of college, but hopefully I'll go over it!

Yes, a great idea, I only add 50 and I guess most of those 50 will be the books of the 1001 book challenge...
YeA....I was like dazed at that moment and I just put a random numbers. Haha. I wonder if I ever will get near 800. :)
I'm really enjoying this.I have been reading 11 to 14 books a month. I read 14 last month. Trying to break that this month. I will be starting my 8th book tommorw.
Haha, I have had a goal of reading 50 books a year for the last 10+ years, have every single one of them logged, and graded! It's my bible for book recommendations to friends now. Oh, I was so ahead of my time!!

I really like the idea, and seeing others' progress is interesting too. My goal this year - 103 books and i'll do my best to reach it because i'm stubborn.:)
so far so good.........reading and reading and reading.........always gaining knowledge from these books don't u think....a very good entertainment for people and to enjoy themselves from the educational world!! :)
I think it's a very good idea. I like it very much.Just hope people will read the books because they want to, not just because of the challenge.

Tried for 75 last year, and failed so downgrading to 60 which will still be hard as I've yet to finish a book since the year started. Not sure that incorporating finishing The Canterbury Tales, complete Emily Dickinson poetry AND two books in French was a good idea though!
That's a pretty good update to the site. I've set mine to 200, since last year I did 173 even though I was pretty busy.
I must be delusional because my goal is 300. So far I've completed 15 so perhaps it's not such a bad or unobtainable goal after all.

I´ve tried last year and failed, I read 45 books, not that bad but I didn´t make it to my goal. Maybe this year I can read 50 and catch up for the 5 I missed...

I would love to join.
Last year was my first year trying the challenge and I exceeded my goal by reading 56 books, so I upped the number to 60 this year. Maybe should have went for 65? :' )
