I've been writing The Silurian series since 2004; I've self published the first eight books in the series, mostly with Lulu.com and also Smashwords.com - the time is coming now for book nine to be published, but since my editor deserted me without a word of why or farewell, I will have to edit book nine alone, a daunting task. Hours and hours of work, days and months of work, years and years of hard dedicated work.
I love the Arthurian legends to distraction, and I knew that the only way I could fulfill my longing for a real personal Arthurian life, was to live it myself, through Bedwyr, the Fox. I have achieved this with vision and clarity, but the editing is killing me slowly...
Each book is over 120,000 words. Book 8, 180,000 words, and book 9, 200,000. And because of all these years of painstaking work, I can no longer offer the first three books as free downloads. I have worked too hard, suffered too much now to give them away. Bedwyr, and Arthur, deserve better than this, but no publishers will take these books on. Not only are they big and long and detailed, but they're unconventional, non-conformist, even iconoclastic...but only in a superficial way. For those readers of mine who have looked deeper, have seen that the story is packed with Arthurian allusions all the way through, and the love of Bedwyr for Arthur is the love of the world for the Arthurian legend itself: its eternal heart and soul.
The Silurian then, in essence, is a love story: nine books long, a million words smashed, and deeply personal. To publish it, is like exposing my soul to the world so it may be judged and trodden on, in some cases. It is unique in both story and extent of words, and Bedwyr himself, who tells the story, too precious to me to ever be attacked. And yet, this is his life...and mine.
So I am sorry, but there will be no more free downloads.
