Since I've published my first book--The Lockwood Chronicles Episode 1: A Chance Meeting--I've been hearing from all sorts of people about how impressive it is, how proud friends and family are of me, and so on. Frequently, I get the formula response--"Wow! That's great! I'll have to check that out when I get home!"

If all of the people who are so proud of me, who are so impressed with me, and who are going to "check out" my books asap actually followed through, my books would be bestsellers by now. Inevitably, if I run into any of these people again and ask them what they thought, they'll get all embarrassed or defensive and say they haven't had time to look at them yet, or they just got so busy they haven't had time to read anything at all.

I completely understand that not everyone has time to read all the time, and the genre I write in (paranormal romance) is not everyone's cup of tea. I've been learning to take peoples' promises with a grain of salt. But that's not going to stop me from telling anyone who'll stand still long enough about my books. Who knows, that person who's only humoring me may one day hear from someone they know that they need something to read and they'll remember me.... Hey, a girl can hope!
