Boo!I love your presence in my feed and the level-headedness you bring to every discussion. I know we haven't interacted much, but I wish you all the best in the next phase of your internetdom.
No, I'm not crying. There's just something in my eye. Like a twig, you know, or a branch. You will be missed Shirley!!! *all the awkward hugs*
Shirley it has been such a pleasure to have met you through GR and to have interacted on some very interesting threads ;) I think we all need a GROUP HUG!
I'm gonna miss you Shirley xxx
Shirley! I am so sad to see you go. But I understand what you're saying and respect your decision. Still, I'm going to miss seeing your updates and reviews. I'm not crying it's just been raining on my face ;~;
You'll be super missed around these parts, Shirley--I'm definitely going to miss your reviews. **HUGS**
We'll definitely miss you, Shirley. It's been a pleasure meeting and interacting with you on GR, as well as reading your reviews. *hugs*
Count me among the people with something in their eyes. I'll miss you so much, Shirley! I wish you'd stay on in a non-reviewing capacity, even, but I suppose this is what you must do. I hope you'll come back!
Aaw.... I've enjoyed your reviews, and I also got a kick out of the the few times we did interact. Bye.. for now!
I promise this is not the end. It will have a romantic comedy ending - girl from Big Bad Author Land is sent to infiltrate Goodreads. Girl actually grows to love Goodreads and the friends she makes. Girl is forced to go back to Big Bad Author Land. But she will continue to love and see you all. Promise. Thanks for the beautiful comments. And NO crying!
This makes me sad. You're one of the authors I always think of as rock-solid, intelligent, funny and down to earth. I never got to know you as well as I'd liked (and planned), but you are one of the good ones, Shirley, and GR will be the poorer for not having you.I'll keep my eye out for your books and hope to see more from you soon.
Be well. :)
"And if I was ever invited back on that writers festival panel I would say that not only would I touch Goodreads, I would touch it all over in a completely tasteful way. Liar. I know you'd touch it in inappropriate ways.
We'll miss you around here, that's for sure. Or at least I will:-/ xx
Go forth and spread joy!!! :) Thanks for being sane, gracious and classy. Many authors could learn a lesson from you.
I'm going to miss you around here, Shirley. It's been a pleasure reading your reviews and discussing books with you. You've been the model of what authors should be on Goodreads. I've always appreciated your candor and insights. I'll always be on the lookout for your books. :)
Agh, this post almost made me cry. So bittersweet. I'm sad you're crossing the lines back to "Big Bad Author Land," but I'm happy that you'll still leave your account here rather than deleting it. I'll miss seeing your reviews, updates, and general loveliness, though -- but at least I'll be able to read your forthcoming novels (because I know there'll be many more to come) even if you never touch your GR account again. Happy writing (and reading!) to you, Shirley. :)
Nooooooo. Shirley! Pile up on Shirley! Don't let her go!OK OK if you must. Excuse me while I get this dust out of my eye...
Shirley, I'm honoured to have gotten to know you a little here on GR and on your blog, and love that you do things on your own terms. Including this. You're an inspiration and I respect you so much.
Moll Dolls 4 lyf.
*cough*TWITTER*cough*
Oh NO. I'm so sorry you're leaving, Shirley, you are one of my favorite people here--author or reviewer.I am really glad you're not deleting this account, however, and I am going to cross my fingers that you decide to come back someday. In the meantime, you know who you can call if you need cinnamon bears shipped from the U.S.
xoxo Love to you. I will hunt you down if I'm ever in Perth.
Huuuuuuuuuuuh? I am speechless, Shirley. I thought you were reviewing books on your blog even before joining Goodreads. You were THE author who stayed herself. And before I joined the community in 2009 primarily to list my reading history somewhere I had not heard anything about it that sounded remotely like «mean people».
I swear I am not going to cry.
I'm going to miss you Shirley so much. I really enjoyed the Puberty Blues read along.
I hope you come back someday :)
What a sad day it is Shirley. I haven't been around much either lately but I will miss your reviews for sure. Let's look on the bright side: does that mean you'll have more time to write?! I want more books by Shirley Marr!!
As much as I dislike this I'll support you in this decision but I'm sure going to miss you. Farewell.
Will miss you, Shirley! I loved reading your reviews, they were brilliant (and so are you). I look forward to reading everything else you write in the futures. From one Aussie to another, cheers mate. :)
Time for the super cool, secret Ostraylian handshake you taught me. Ready? *Kangaroo paw* I'll miss you, Shirley Marr! I didn't even get to tell you about the time I semi-stalked Craig Silvey at ALA in your honor, or honour.
@shirley: alright, then you're not going to be active in goodreads, but you're still going to keep reviewing on books on marrs, right?!x joe
^ The answer to joe's question better be yes, shirley! You are one of my favourite reviewers on here, writer or otherwise, and I'm genuinely very sad to see you go. *blinks very hard and fast*
Shirley - you will be very much missed! I hope the road you are traveling brings you back this way soon! :-)

DO NOT WANT!
see, I don't know you at all, but this post? makes me want to read everything you've ever written.authors, take note.
This is a very sad day. I'm so thankful that you braved the savagery of goodreads and gave us all a chance. ;) For my part, I want to say that you are one of the few authors here who have proven to me that authors can be fully-functioning, critical-review-writing members of goodreads. I hope you don't stay away forever - don't be a stranger!
I haven't read any of your books (not much of a YA reader) nor your reviews (I think) but I'm sorry you are leaving. Good luck with everything!
Aw MAN. This bittersweetly blows, but I understand--I GUESS ;) Will miss you on here for sure, Shirley!
I have several author friends who've done it and I don't blame them. I've thought about it myself, but for some odd reason I just keep coming back. Maybe someday I'll make an anonymous acct for myself so I can "leave" and still follow all my favorite reviewers.Good luck on your exodus!
Thank you, every each one of you.To answer the question, I will no longer be updating my reviewing site. Unfortunately, I now agree with my aggravator that I am not the good Aussie YA ambassador I thought I was, and instead am irresponsible, unkind and ruining people's careers.
So I will now refrain from making any public comments on other people's books, in either a positive or negative capacity. Sure I could stay on and only post positive reviews, but as you know, positive reviews almost always contain critical elements too and I do not want to post censored, fake sounding reviews.
Don't be sad. I will direct all my energies into creating a nice emo novel for you and I hope you can enjoy it next year, which is not really that long at all :)
I agree with Archer. :( But clearly, Miss Marr, you are one of the classy ones!! (And an Aussie too! Feeling proud, yep, you bet:))
I agree with Archer too. But I look forward to the time you fly back upon your magical unicorn and grace GR with your presence again! Now get cracking on that book, lady! x

You will be missed, dearly.

I love you <3 and I hope you do come back one day and hopefully by then I will have gotten my grubby paws on your books and actually read them =)
