I'm slowly coming out of my post-writing coma. I even made my bed this morning, which hasn't happened in about a month!

I've answered most of my emails ~ if I haven't responded to you yet, I will, I promise.

And I am in the process of updating my web page which includes sharing two deleted scenes from BARELY BREATHING.

Now that most of you have read BARELY BREATHING (if you haven't, don't worry, I won't spoil anything, so you can keep reading), take a breath. It's okay to be upset, really it is. You have every right to be angry with Emma. She deserves it. She hasn't made the best decisions under duress, but she is a complicated and fractured character. She will be the first to admit, "It makes me stupid." So as much as you'd like to scream at her, I hope you then want to pull her to you and squeeze her tight because she is quite lost and broken. Don't give up on her...

I recognize how much angst I've incited, and I have to admit I never intended it to the extreme that it has erupted. Yes, REASON TO BREATHE was left at a dire moment, but I didn't deem BARELY BREATHING's ending a "cliffhanger". I knew it wasn't the ending you all wanted, but I was actually pretty proud of myself for giving you a proper ending, even adding a shimmer of hope with the last sentence.

The truth is... it's not the end. I've created this series as one long story, but divided it into three parts of Emma's life as she's becoming the woman the rest of the world will finally get to see. And that's what "The Breathing Series" is... it's Emma's story. Yes, there is an underlying love theme, but there are also underlying themes of denial, trust and fear. In the end, it's the story of a girl. A girl who has touched your hearts while making you frustrated and fearing her next decision, but also cheering her on when she finally stands up for herself. She is flawed to perfection, but I hope she is still worthy of your praise and affection.

This is not Evan's story, or Sara's story. But they are a part of Emma's. And I can't imagine her life without them influencing it in some way, whether they are present or not. But trust me, you will want to know how it all ends!

Ah, yes, that leads us to the final part of Emma's story ~ OUT OF BREATH. I wrote this conclusion nearly three years ago. So much has happened since then, especially since I rewrote BARELY BREATHING from the very first word over the past year. So I have decisions to make regarding my approach to OUT OF BREATH. I could use the original and edit it, but there is a lot of editing to do. Or... the other choice is to use the original story as an outline and write it again.

Before you panic and fear you will have to wait another year for the next book, know that I am officially a full-time writer and will not have to divide my time with another career. This will absolutely help expedite the process. However, I still cannot provide a release date until I am confident I can meet it. I made that mistake once in my post-publishing euphoria, and I will not do it again.

I am leaning towards writing it again from the beginning, only because the words will flow together better. I feel I have grown as a writer since I created REASON TO BREATHE, and I want that to be evident in the beautiful story that is the end.

Besides, Emma killed Jonathan in the first version of BARELY BREATHING that I wrote three years ago, (I know, crazy, huh?!) and so he's currently not even in OUT OF BREATH. And now, he can't be ignored, can he?

Yes, a lot was changed in BARELY BREATHING, the ending being the most drastic. And I do have another secret... OUT OF BREATH is my favorite!

Need to talk about it? I am finalizing the details so that I can make a guest appearance at your Book Clubs via Skype. (Remember, the camera adds 15 pounds, so don't judge - ha!). I will post the details on my web page ~ www.rebeccadonovan.com, when I have everything in place! I can't wait to meet you all!

Also, I'm working with a design company to create new covers for "The Breathing Series" so that they can be put into print! Yes, you will be able to hold it in your hands, breathe in the pages, and then throw it across the room for real!

BARELY BREATHING is currently available on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007Z0ODCY, Barnes & Noble http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/barel..., and Smashwords https://www.smashwords.com/books/view.... It will be available on iBooks, Kobo, Sony and Diesel within the next few weeks (Sorry for the delay! Not my doing, I swear!).

I also republished BB on B&N and Amazon on May 8th due to bloops I did not catch in my sleep deprived state while fighting to meet my publication deadline. You may delete it from your Nook and then re-upload it, so that you have the latest version. And you may email Amazon requesting that they send the most up to date version to your Kindle. I apologize profusely for the numerous errors. It is not the reading experience I wanted you to have.

If you haven't already discovered these pages, I post on Facebook often ~ (https://www.facebook.com/ReasontoBreathe , https://www.facebook.com/TheBreathing... ). I like sharing...

Wanna know one more secret?

I couldn't have done any of this without all of YOU, so thank you for your devotion, emotional tirades, and words of praise as I share Emma's life with you. I am grateful you are there to read my words!

Okay, fine. I'll tell you one more secret... someone dies in OUT OF BREATH. Was that a bad secret? Ooops.

message 15: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Youre Killing Me!!!

message 16: by Tina (new)

Tina Emma is a complex and emotionally scarred girl who wants to trust completely so much but so afraid that no one will accept her warts and all. I love this girl...I want to shake her till her teeth rattle a lot of the time, but then I want to hold her close and protect her and convince her of what a beautiful person she is. I have never felt so connected to characters in a book. Everytime I read RTB or BB, it haunts me for days, yet I read them again and again.

I absolutely cannot wait until Out of Breath comes out and I hope you know that you have a permanent place among my favorite authors. Keep up the great work!

message 17: by Tania (new)

Tania When does Out of breath come out ?! CANNOT WAIT

message 21: by Meaghan (new)

Meaghan Prindle Can it be Jonathan that dies? I would like that.

message 22: by Tealia (new)

Tealia You're writing always amazes me. Never give it up no matter what. It's truely a talent. I'm 14 (turning 15) and im trying to write a book too and hopefully it could be as good as yours (i seriously doubt it) but seriously i LOVED this book so much, and at the ending my mouth just fell agape. Like OMG, WHAAA? But it was amazing :)I cant wait for "Out of Breath" and im sad Emma story is coming to an end. Do you possabliy think you could make the seris longer? I would hate it to end no mater how the 3rd one end. You should think about it, because it's just to good to just end with a third book. Then when its a TV show, the producers could have alot of material ;) (The Breathing seris, just HAVE to become a TV show. It makes complete since that it will) Really think about it. And you're killing me -.- someone dies. Cant wait to read the 3rd book. I'm going to get all my friends to read them (:

message 23: by Kathy (new)

Kathy I am so in to these books. The book scenes always runs through my mind when I am at work and I have to go on breaks to read it again on my kindle. Each book(Barely Breathing and Reason to Breathe) has left me wanting more.
I really can not wait till the third book and I hope that Emma, Evan and Sara are not the ones that die.
Thank you Rebecca, your books are so good you caught the readers attention and kept it all throughout both books and still have the readers wanting more;0
It would be great that you possibly continue the series, such as you can have Emma, Sara, and Evan start a business where they can help other kids that are going through similar issues and help them realize that there is help out there.
Keep writing.

message 24: by Violet (new)

Violet Please just make it where Emma and Evan end up together. PLEASE

message 25: by Violet (new)

Violet Meaghan wrote: "Can it be Jonathan that dies? I would like that."

He doesn't have to die just leave Emma alone. Jail would work for me. I want Emma with Evan.

message 26: by Amber (new)

Amber With the hint of someone dying in the third installment, my top 3 choices in order would be:

1. Carol - (Duh)
2. Rachel - (Again, duh)
3. Jonathan - (Eww & duh)

With that said, I cannot wait for "Out of Breath" to be released. I have connected with these characters on so many levels and will hold on to the last line of "Barely Breathing" for hope that Emma will forgive herself and have the "happily ever after" that she deserves, in her life with Evan.

message 27: by Shelly (last edited May 30, 2012 06:52pm) (new)

Shelly SOMEONE DIES?!!! OMG! You cant just drop that on us like that Ms Donovan!!! Im ready to pull my hair outta my head!!! Im soooo ready for Out of Breath to drop! You've done a phenomenal job with this series! Kudos to you!!!

message 28: by Julianna (new)

Julianna I am so ready for Out of Breath, you have done a great job with the series and seriously can't wait until the next one! I am thinking that both Emma and Evan deserve the happy ending after all of this!

message 29: by Candace (new)

Candace I am Out of Breath waiting!!!!! Please hurry!

message 30: by Grechen (new)

Grechen This book is killing me in all the suspense and drama; and how I love Emma and Evan . Can't wait for the next series!!!

message 31: by Paola (new)

Paola Ramirez Who did you killed in Out of Breath?????? This is a horrible tease, I devoured your 2 books in 3 days between breaks for work and train rides! Love Emma’s story and Please hurry with Out of Breath, you are killing us here! I feel out of breath and I would be another catastrophe of the final book!

message 32: by Karla (new)

Karla I think you have killed me. I am barely holding on by a thread here with so PLEASE don't let me wait too long. I also need to be put out of my misery!! lol...Love Evan and sooooooooooooo hating that chick Analise! I dont care I want her gone....can we move her away? LOL

Amy~undercoversmuttster~ I just found this series and read both of the books in 4 days. Your writing style sucked me in and I love Emma. You are right, I was so annoyed with Emma and confliced because I love her that I thought I didn't like the second book. I really did like it and now understand why it had to go where it went. Thank you for writing this series, oh and I am by far NOT a YA but still love them. PS it better be Rachel or Analise who dies! No pressure

message 34: by Christina (new)

Christina Am I the only one that doesn't want Jonathan to die?

message 35: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Christina wrote: "Am I the only one that doesn't want Jonathan to die?"

I don't want Jonathan to die. I don't like him, but I don't want him to die. I think he is a very troubled soul who needs help in processing his feeling in a non violent way. I also don't like him with Emma because I want her to have a semi stable partner, which Jonathan is not. I think Jonathan deserves help and to come to a point where he isn't a tortured soul....

message 36: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Christina wrote: "Am I the only one that doesn't want Jonathan to die?"

Ps I want carol to die. She is awful.

Pps I honestly dont WANT anyone to die, but if someone has to, I want her to.

message 37: by Sandy (new)

Sandy I want Jonathan to finally have closure with Emma And I want her to feel like she is helping him move on, however Evan and Emma need and I mean need to be together!!! Jonathan can find someone else
Carol needs to die she is one horrible person

message 38: by Christina (new)

Christina I would definitely read a spin off series with Jonathan as the main character. And I agree Emma and Evan belong together

message 39: by Hayley (new)

Hayley OMG......i just read these two wonderfull books, and how many emotions i went through is unbelievable. At times i wanted to throw the dam book accross the room, then shake Emma into reality. Other times i just sat and cried, willing some happiness to come along. These have to be the best books i have ever read, i just can't wait for Out Of Breath. Who dies ??????? its killing me....looking foward to the release of it sooooo much .

message 40: by Loli (new)
