Happy St. Patrick's Day!Around our house, March 17th is celebration-worthy. My husband boasts Irish heritage, and Hollywood could easily cast him as a leprachaun. We named our children Kelly and Colin. When they were little, I'd read them Dr. Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham, then serve them green scrambled eggs and ham for breakfast. At snack time we drank green applejuice. I 'd sprinkle colored sugar into their applesauce at lunch and stir it up so it turned green. For supper, I even tinted the dough green and made cloverleaf rolls. Please, somebody, adopt this poor kitty and add some green to that mug. (I have it on good authority that it's aquarium water.) The odd thing about it all is, I'm German/English. We trace our lineage back to William of Orange... and on St. Patrick's Day, Irish wear green: but the English are supposed to wear orange in honor of King William of Orange who conquered Ireland. I don't wear orange, because I'd wind up black and blue! Ahhh. but here's the real kicker: St Patrick, himself, wasn't an Irishman. Nae, he wasna. Oooch! Here's a very interesting little video:
http://www.history.com/topics/st-patricks-day/videos#st-patrick So now, I guess it doesn't matter a lick where we come from or what we wear. We're all brothers and sisters in Christ. So I'm raising my green tea and pronouncing a couple or three blessings. The last, weeeellll.... that's a wee bit feisty just for the fun of it all: May neighbours respect you, Trouble neglect you,The angels protect you,And heaven accept you. ~~~~***~~~~
May you have food and raiment, a soft pillow for your head. May you be forty years in heaven before the devil knows you're dead.~~~***~~~
May those that love us, love us.And those that don't love us,May God turn their hearts. And if he doesn't turn their
hearts,May he turn their ankles,So we'll know them by their
limping.
What's your favorite Irish blessing?
