With Dark Swan and Georgina coming to a close, many have asked if I'll be writing any other books for adults or just sticking to young adult.

NYT bestselling author Richelle Mead's GAMEBOARD OF THE GODS, the first novel in her new adult paranormal series, Age of X, featuring an unlikely pair charged with investigating mystical phenomena in a futuristic world that was nearly destroyed by religious extremists, to Brian Tart at Dutton, with Jessica Horvath editing, in a two-book deal, by Jim McCarthy at Dystel & Goderich Literary Management (world).
It sounds a little heavy, but don't worry. It'll have a lot of the same wacky humor, romantic and mythological intrigue, and occasional cliffhanger that you've come to expect from Richelle Mead novels. I'm excited to write it. I'm not sure what genre to call it. The world has gone through its dystopian phase and is in a much prettier, more advanced era--one that fears religion or anything mystical. So, you can imagine the complications when weird and seemingly magical things start happening. My protagonists are awesome, but I can't say much more about them or the rest of the plot until we're much closer to its release. That'll be a while since I can't write as fast as I used to.
Perhaps the greatest challenge will be that I can't fall back on my old crutch of constantly referencing pop culture as part of my humor. I guess I'll have to find another way to be funny. Unless you think 1980s music will survive a hundred years into the future?

NO ONE likes cliffhangers or major disappointments, which are the things you most provide to your faithful followers at this point. Case in point: Shadow Heir.
I cant wait, i have pre ordered all your books in the past, but i must say that it doesnt feel like the Eugienie series ended it felt like another chapter at least was needed :( i was left disappointed at the end something that has never ever happened before, with a Richelle Mead book.
wow I think I must be the only Richelle Mead fan that WILL NOT be. rushing out to buy this. I hope its great! I was so disappointed in the Dark Swan series I could cry! And Georgina may have ended alright but not the exceptionally awesome ending I was expecting from my favorite author. Plus I hate her cliffhangers. No, I'd rather wait till they are all out and the series how ever long its going to be is complete. I am sucky fan #1!!!
Bloodlines is the only other series I will read. Thats only because I started before Shadow Heir came out.
Cliffhangers BETWEEN books are annoying, but not really the giant sin that everyone is making them out to be. While I will agree that way too many loose ends at the end of a series is extremely frustrating(case in point: Shadow Heir), I really don't see the harm in a cliffhanger between, say, Book #2 and Book #3 in a series. Even if there's a year to wait for Book #3 if you read Book #2 right when it comes out. I've been a Mead fan since the first VA book and while Dark Swan was not my cup of tea, I'll be sticking with her for this new series, it sounds very intriguing, can't wait!
Can't wait!!! Well if its a really technological world, you could possible have a character that finds the music as "recordings" of the past or something and they could get really obsessed with the 80's.
