In viewing the poll provided I came to a realization. For me it isn't about the genre of literature I'm reading but about the individual book. I have fairly eclectic reading tastes but there is one thing that draws me into a book no matter the genre and that is an amazing character. For example George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones and Stieg Larson's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo are from vastly different genres but they are two of my current favorite books because I connected with the characters in the books. It isn't about the genre of literature at all but about the characters.
That seems to be the consensus, Jennifer. Sadly, editors don't always feel the same way. It's becoming common to hear of moratoriums on certain genres, which is too bad, because based on the poll, there's really still a market for everything. Thanks so much for your input!

P.S. Lizbeth Salander is one of my all-time favorite book characters. Just brilliant!
I like a bit of everything. Yes I agree there is to some extent an oversaturation of certain themes right now but it's always like that. Everything seems to come and go in popularity. Also for me I tend to choose books based on what I'm currently in the mood for. I tend to jump all over the place with what I choose. I also tend to stay away from books with loads of hype. I prefer finding out about a book via word of mouth than being told by Entertainment Weekly or a book list what I should read. I say write what you feel passionate about.Nikki
