My guess is that advertising books on Goodreads will be just as ineffective as advertising them on Facebook.
This may be, although I do tend to pay more attention to the book advertisements on Goodreads more than I do elsewhere. Plus, I can easily check reviews for the advertised book.
I think, though, that the best advertising you can get at Goodreads is a "karen review". ;) Just added Ashfall to my TBR shelf!
I would buy advertising on Goodreads if only as a test if I could get it to work. I mean, I'm not a computer genius or anything, but I do know where the on switch is.Hope you enjoy ASHFALL, Patricia! Or if you don't, that you write a hilariously snarky review that goes viral.

I agree! The best kind.

Yay for Goodreads. I tried Anobii for a while before moving my shelves to Goodreads and I can say - apart from the lack of re-reading dates Goodreads takes the medal in every aspect.
They are international and let users help translating the interface into various languages, but I think the headquarters are in China. When I was looking for an online bookshelf, I consulted Wikipedia. A that time the article made it look as if Anobii was the largest one with the best features. But very, very often I was the only owner or reader of a rather well-known book. Maybe thay would have been different if I usually read Italian or Chinese books. I don't know how the site fared since 2009. I think it still exists.
