I agree with you JT. The key word here is "free." Once the giveawy or free download is ended, the downloads seem to drop off to zero. This is a problem for the self-publishers, and one which they need to address. How does a self-publisher get paying customers to purchase his or her book? I like Kindle Select, but bestselling authors have the advantage over the unknown authors. Lee Goldberg and Joe Konrath and others give their books away free, but in exchange for a book review. I don't think any self-publisher should give away his or her books or allow a free download unless they get something in return - at the minimum a Book Review posted on Amazon, Goodreads, and Barnes and Noble websites. What do you think? Do you have any suggestions that could help the self-publisher? A good book review, a local advertisement. If you're planning to give your book away, perhaps, you might consider donating it to the local library, and a poster advertising your book.
