She has written for Insight Guides and Discovery Communications. She has also written curriculum for Augsburg Fortress Publishers and the Alaska Mission Committee.

Kaylene served as a writer-in-residence for the Anchorage School District beginning in 1996. She continues to offer classes, workshops, and presentations for adults and children on a variety of topics aimed at building community and developing skills for new and young writers. Her background in journalism offers keen insight into the writing and publishing process.
