About this author

Goodreads Profile Page flattened
Books have been meaningful to me my entire life. Back in high school, there were books that came at just the right time to help me understand how I fit in the world in a way that made more sense. Because of them I knew I wasn't the only one who felt different, or lived with difficult things, or was faced with hard choices. I've spent twelve long years pulling the story of Secret Speakers out of the air, almost as if it was floating around me, ready to be captured and put on paper. Now it's ready for you to hold in your hands. For me, my greatest hope is that it will be, for some of you, the book that comes along at the perfect time to guide you on your own journey through this thing called life. Fair O'Nelli lives in a cellar for nine year...more

And so, every day I'm trying to spread my wings by spreading a message of comfort to those who know no comfort, a message of companionship to those who feel utterly alone. The only way to soar is to share. It is through service that we are made whole.

We all get second chances. We all have the capacity to give. And it is by giving that we know God. God bless you. God bless all those who suffer. read more »

Secret Speakers (Science Fiction & Fantasy)
2 chapters   —   updated Jul 22, 2010 01:53pm
Description: School Library Journal starred review and description: (June 2010 issue) "Gr 8 Up—This imaginative fantasy centers on Fair O'Nelli, who has spent the last nine years living in a cellar with her dog, Sauveren, to avoid discovery and possibly the same fate as her missing father and younger brother. She is released from hiding when she turns 13 and accepts a task from Thelras, Mother Queen of Light, to journey to the unknown Selador's Gate in search of a mysterious individual named Selador. Like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, Fair travels in the company of her dog and three guardians. Along the way, they encounter enough magic, adventure, and intrigue to satisfy even the most die-hard fantasy fans. The book culminates in a confrontation between Fair and Harrold King, the evil ruler of Cloven Grave, and his sidekick Pewgen Flype, who is responsible for the enslavement of children in the caves of Osden Shorn. A likable heroine, Fair discovers courage, conviction, and friendship in her search for Selador. Readers familiar with C.S. Lewis's "Narnia Chronicles" will spot the religious symbolism scattered throughout the book, while the epic nature of Fair's quest will remind others of J. R. R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" novels. Although Kingworth may borrow elements from these beloved stories, she has created a rich, detailed fantasy world that is unique and as vivid as all of them with charming, whimsical touches. Secret Speakers was originally released in serial form as a cell-phone novel at TextNovel.com, where it was wildly popular."

Cheryl Hey Karey,

How is everything going?? I hope all is well and that you're feeling better! :-)

I hope you'll consider reading Lancelot's Lady, my debut romance novel on Textnovel. I've entered it in the Dorchester contest and I can really use the support. I need all the votes I can get.

Lancelot's Lady is a manuscript that is unfinished (I'm adding chapters daily right now) and I'm really excited about where it's going and the response I've gotten so far. Since I usually write suspense novels, this romance thing is a bit of a challenge. lol

Please vote "thumbs up" if you enjoy it.

I see I'm not the only one who has had the pleasure of being in one of Mark Strand's classes. At the end of the semester he said, "I don't know why you've all been working so hard all semester writing poems. All you had to do is write one and I would have given you an A." We all about leaped over our desks to strangle him.

Jeanne Hi Karey,

On your profile, you wrote: "Before graduating with a BA in Creative Writing from the University of Utah in 1987, Kingworth was taught by Mark Strand, former Poet Laureate of the United States. He said one of her poems sounded like a Hallmark Card, (which she took as a compliment . . . ?)"
