About this author

Gus Gordon is a children's book author and illustrator based in Sydney, Australia. He has written and illustrated over 70 books for children.

Gus's illustrations are known for their loose, energetic line work, mixed media (most notably collage) and nonsensical humour. His writing is always anthropomorphic - where animals take the place of humans in the narrative. His most recent written works include the picture books 'Wendy' and 'Herman and Rosie' published by Penguin Books Australia.

Gus's influences are varied but mostly lean toward those illustrators who are humorous and/or have a free flowing energy to their work. They include the illustrators Jean-Jacques Sempe, William Steig, Serge Bloch, Sara Fanelli, Oliver Jeffers, Eric Carle, Leigh

The Australian edition will be released on the 28th of May. I was thrilled to see the book featured on the Brainpickings site the other day too - I've been...

Herman and Rosie by Gus Gordon
"Personal response: What a cute story! I was not expecting much from this book and I am not sure why, however, I ended up loving it. The story has two elements that really drew me in. First off, the theme of being in place full of people, but still..." Read more of this review »
Herman and Rosie by Gus Gordon
"Personal response- As a hopeless romantic, this was such a sweet book. While it is a love story, the book has such a good story behind it. Herman and Rosie both feel alone in this big world. Sometimes I feel the same way while going from day to da..." Read more of this review »
Herman and Rosie by Gus Gordon
"One night, Herman and Rosie meet and the city is never the same. But how do they find their way to each other? Full of gorgeous illustrations."
