updated Mar 29, 2010 04:34pm
Description:
Her family's cottage on the New Jersey shore was a place of freedom and innocence for Julie Bauer—until her seventeen-year-old sister, Isabel, was murdered.
It's been more than forty years since that August night, but Julie's memories of her sister's death still shape her world. Now someone from her past is raising questions about what really happened that night. About Julie's own complicity. About a devastating secret her mother kept from them all. About the person who went to prison for Izzy's murder—and the person who didn't.
Faced with questions and armed with few answers, Julie must gather the courage to revisit her past and untangle the complex emotions that led to one unspeakable act of violence on the bay at midnight.

Description:
It’s often difficult for me to characterize my books, and Before the Storm is no exception. It’s part suspense, part mystery, and one hundred percent family drama. It’s about how far family members will go to protect one another. It’s about the choices people make that come back to haunt them. And it’s about the gradual unfolding of truths that keep the characters on edge and those pages turning.

Description:
Maya and Rebecca Ward are both accomplished physicians, but that's where the sisters' similarities end. As teenagers, they witnessed their parents' murder, but it was Rebecca who saved Maya from becoming another of the gunman's victims. The tragedy left Maya cautious and timid, settling for a sedate medical practice with her husband, Adam, while Rebecca became the risk taker.
After a devastating hurricane hits the coast of North Carolina, Rebecca and Adam urge Maya to join them in the relief effort. To please her husband, Maya finally agrees. She loses herself in the care and transport of victims, but when her helicopter crashes into raging floodwaters, there appears to be no survivors.
Forced to accept that Maya is gone, Rebecca and Adam turn to one another first for comfort, then in passion, unaware that, miles from civilization, Maya is injured and trapped with strangers she's not certain she can trust. Away from the sister who has always been there to save her, now Maya must find the courage to save herself-unaware that the life she knew has changed forever.

Description:
Early one morning, on the beach beside her North Carolina home, eleven-year-old Daria Cato receives an unbelievable gift from the sea--an abandoned newborn baby. When the infant's identity cannot be uncovered, she is adopted by Daria's loving family. But her silent secrets continue to haunt Daria and her family.
Now, twenty years later, Shelly has grown into an unusual, ethereal woman whom Daria continues to protect. But when Rory Taylor, a friend from Daria's past and now a television producer, returns to do a story on the mystery of Shelly's birth, something precarious shifts in the small village of Kill Devil Hills.
The more questions Rory asks, the more unsettled the tiny community becomes, as dark sins and closely guarded secrets begin to surface. Piece by piece, the mystery of summer's child is being exposed, and it's a mystery that no one involved is prepared to solve.

Every family has a story, told and retold so many times it seems firm and irrefutable. Etched in granite. Here are the bare bones of my family's story: My parents were murdered by a masked stranger, who shot them in our driveway. My sister, Rebe..." Read more of this chapter » |

Thanks for accepting my friend request, Diane. You seem like an interesting person, as well as quite the prolific author, so feel free to tell me more about yourself. I, myself, am a singer/songwriter/actor who has recently turned author. My 2 top ten recordings were CONCRETE & CLAY (as a singer) and NAVY BLUE (as a writer)...both in the early 1960's. My first novel is an unusual murder mystery entitled: FORBIDDEN STEPS.Regards, and have a great day, Ed

The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes finally arrived today. I peeked inside and before I knew it the first two chapters were read... yay! I love a book that pulls me so fast that I'm gone before I realize that I've left:)
Hi. Nice to meet you on Goodreads as well as Redroom today. You've been busy! If you're not done surfing, come visit my Goodreads page, my Redroom page or my website:

Thanks so much for adding me Diane. Your work sound so exciting and adventurous! I know you must be very busy, but if you can I'd love for you to visit my web site, jeanniebarber.com. I'm a novice writer so feel free to make any kind of suggestions, ideas or thoughts to correct it. I’m co-authoring a novel with Patty Wiseman, another friend on Goodreads. We’ve known each other for over 30 years. While you're there, please sign the guestbook, too! There’s also a link to our book you can click on…clairkelley@synthasite.com. This site is brand new and in the editing stage as is our story. Please visit it as well. We’re both very green, but we’ve met so many people on this site willing to reach out and offer advice or a guiding hand, we feel very blessed. Thanks,
Jeannie
Diane,I'm so pleased that you extended the invitation to be your friend on Goodreads. What a striking picture you have posted--must be the work of your significant other. Wow.
And what a busy lady you have been. I love the titles of your books! I've sworn off fiction (reading of) for so long because I have no willpower and let it consume my life so there's no time for my day job + writing of, but I'm starting slowly to add it back into my life. I'll keep your wonderful titles in mind.
