About this author

Hello. Thanks for visiting my author page here on Goodreads. In case you don't know me, I'm John Marco and I'm a fantasy writer. I've written seven books so far, including the Tyrants and Kings trilogy and the books of the Bronze Knight Lukien. My next book, The Forever Knight, is due out in April 2013. I also write short stories from time to time, and these you can find at Amazon. Like a lot of fantasy fans, I'm a proud nerd and often blog about nerdy things over at my blog--thehappynerd.com. Or, if it's easier for you to remember, just type in johnmarco.com and that will take you over to my blog as well. Hope to see you there!

So, this is a tough one, because it brings up a lot of personal feelings. I tend to see a lot of anger in my writing, and that probably comes from when I was younger and went through some stuff at school. I wouldn't call it bullying precisely, but it definitely colored my sense of justice, which you see in characters like Lukien. But of course I've had a lot of good things happen to me--great family, lots of love, that sort of thing--and I do think that influences my writing as well. I tend to be a pretty emotional person, and very internal, so that makes my stories more character driven, and less plot driven. (less)

Thanks for your question. I think "satisfied" with the traditional style is a good way to put it. I've never seriously considered doing anything else. My mind works in a very linear way--I write every scene in order, the way it's supposed to happen in the book. So the thought of doing it differently, while intriguing, is not something I see doing. I'm an old fashioned kind of story teller.(less)

A few days ago, an author who I'm kind of friendly with online asked me if I'd blurb his upcoming book. Sometimes I say no to these requests (politely), and sometimes I say yes. It depends on various factors, some of which have to do with how I'm feeling that day. That sounds kind of crappy, I know, but that's how it works. Today I came across this perfect quote about blurbs from author Mark J... Read more of this blog post »

Rami I'm sure I will enjoy The Forever Knight immensely! My reaction on seeing your name on the cover, and the dawning of my realization that it was Lukien I was looking at, was thankfully unobserved, ahaha!

John Marco Hello! If anyone would like a postcard featuring the cover art for THE FOREVER KNIGHT, feel free to message me. They look mighty cool.
