About this author

I wrote my first novel in my minivan when I was 45. At 50, I walked the red carpet at the Hollywood premiere of the adaptation of my second novel, MUST LOVE DOGS, starring Diane Lane and John Cusack. Midlife rocks! My tenth novel, TIME FLIES, will be here in June 2013, and I'd be so grateful if you'd add it to your to-read list. Thank you! And don't miss the fabulous TIME FLIES sweepstakes - details at http://ClaireCook.com!

Go to http://ClaireCook.com to read excerpts of my novels, find book club questions plus recipes and cupcake flags, and to invite me to chat with your book club. Make sure you check out my For Writers and Reinvention pages while you're there.

“If plan A doesn't work, the alphabet has 25 more letters - 204 if you're in Japan.”
Claire Cook, Seven Year Switch

“What do I want? What kind of question is that? I want what everybody wants. I want someone who has my back. I want someone's name to put in the space after "in an emergecy please call." I want someone who will drink the other half of the bottle of wine so I don't. And someone to make it worth sitting down at an actual table to eat. “Great, you ruined my life and you don’t even remember it.”
Claire Cook, Wallflower in Bloom

“Because I know what it's like to pour your heart and soul into a book, day after day after day, when it comes to the work of other authors, I either give them five stars -- or say nothing! I simply can't bring myself to do anything else.”
Claire Cook

“I opened both eyes. Dread was sitting on my chest as if it were an animal. I mean, dread so real it had physical presence, like a Labrador retriever I could teach tricks to. Here, Dread. Sit, Dread. Roll over, Dread. Play dead, Dread.”
Claire Cook, Wallflower in Bloom

“even reflected glory can be intoxicating.”
Claire Cook, Wallflower in Bloom

“I had a system, too, though I was pretty sure I’d ever acknowledged it before, even to myself. My closet was arranged by size: Now, Not That Long Ago, Once Upon a Time, Never Again, and In Your Dreams. I didn’t even have to check the tags to verify the humiliating range of ever-increasing numerals displayed on them. I wondered what size I’d be when I’d finally had enough.”

Claire Kathy,

Thanks for your kind words about Summer Blowout and Life's a Beach!

Congrats on your first novel! I just loved House and Home. Such a great story, and so beautifully written. I wish you much success with it.

So nice to meet another Voice author. I think it's such a fabulous list.
