I cannot wait to share the story of Gitta an...

Description: After her eccentric mother's death, young Arva House moves to a close-knit outport with hopes of escaping the past that plagues her. But tangled rumors follow, and she soon becomes the object of speculation. Craving a sense of stability, Arva makes hasty choices, and finds herself enmeshed in a net laden with deceit, infidelity, and latent hostility. Only when the man she thought she loved takes her apart, does she realize that all of her unique features somehow fit together to form a whole.
Thaw (Literature & Fiction)
1 chapters   —   updated May 22, 2011 07:28pm
Description: On Christmas Eve, 1898, a young woman gives birth while caught outside in a swirling blizzard. Thaw follows the unsettled life of this child, as she grows into a disquieting presence in tranquil Cupboard Cove. Hazel Boone lives life on its border, moving among familiar strangers, her body driven by temptation and an inner fire. Her self-indulgence creates a shame that percolates down through generations, seizing everyone in its path including her son, the painter David Boone, and his young apprentice, Tilley Gover. Seventy years after her birth, during a winter of constriction, a tragedy repeats itself, and the residents of this small outport re-discover that passion can be as destructive as it is redeeming.
The Seary Line (Literature & Fiction)
1 chapters   —   updated May 22, 2011 07:25pm
Description: Nearing death, an old man laments his poor choice of a wife, and has orchestrated a situation where he will see his childhood love one last time. From these circumstances emerges Stella, a woman who grapples with her family ghosts as they reach across the generations. "The Seary Line" is a collage of interactions that explores the strength of a bloodline, and the often minute, but significant energies that propel a life forward.
Glass Boys (Literature & Fiction)
1 chapters   —   updated May 22, 2011 07:22pm
Description: When Eli Fagan discovers the secret his eleven-year-old stepson has hidden in an old pickle jar, he is filled with blinding rage. As he destroys the jar’s contents, brothers Roy and Lewis Trench, in a drunken prank, stumble into Eli’s yard, and their poor timing costs Roy his life. Though the courts rule the death a tragic accident, the event opens a seam of hate between the two families of Knife’s Point, Newfoundland. Consumed with guilt for his brother’s death and hatred for the man he holds responsible, Lewis seeks to smother the painful past with love. He marries Wilda, and the pleasure he takes in their two children recalls the happier days of his childhood with Roy. But as he watches his small family begin to fracture, the darkness of the past starts to intrude upon the present, leading Lewis and his boys right back to the Fagans—and Eli’s watchful stepson, Garrett Glass. Powerfully written, with vivid and unflinching prose, Glass Boys is an utterly riveting, deeply moving saga of the persistence of evil and the depths and limits of love.
