Sooner or later, we all quit something that was once important to us: a job, school, a club, an addiction, a relationship, and probably other things I haven't thought of. Tell us about something you quit, and why you did so.

Quitting is not the American thing to do. We've been brought up to never give up. I've written several times about the job I didn't quit and all the grief that came out of that, so it's time to talk about the position I DID quit.

I was with a non-profit, which shall remain ...

By the time 8:30 rolled around last night I was tired. I'm generally a night person, but I decided it might be a good idea to heed the call of the brain. I brewed up a cup of Sleepytime tea and trundled off to bed to read. I suppose I fell asleep about ten. I remember turning on my side then...

Much tossing and turning ensued. But oh, that was only a dream. Paul was telling me good night and settling in. Then he told me he planned to dream about the Crystal Palace.

Okay.

Then I shot to sleep wit...

Yes, I'm running late. I spent much of yesterday nursing my sinuses. Things are much better today.

I have a guest post up at the Dallas Morning News Plano Blog. Please check it out. If you've never seen my ugly mug, here's your chance! ;-)

Much work on the office organization front. Picked up a few more items at Target today. The next task is attacking mess that has piled up in a set of in/out boxes. It's a long, slow job, but I think it'll be worth it in the end.

Apologies for the short entry,...

Do you think that the voyages of Christopher Columbus still merit a national holiday? Why or why not? And if not, what holiday would you propose to replace it?

I'm not inclined to believe this is a good reason for a national holiday. Yet, I'm not too keen on the idea of tossing out a replacement holiday. In these times fraught with division, it seems a safe bet that such a discussion would turn into an all-out brawl. Perhaps we should celebrate the occasion in this time-honored tradition:

Is this what I have to look forward to if one of my neighbors disagrees with me?

It's a scary thought and gives me further pause.

Seriously. I'm trying to figure this out. Maybe I can't stand the heat. Perhaps I tire of of people hiding behind masks of anonymity questioning my motives. It could be that, above everything else, I tire of people trading heated accusations, castigating their neighbors for perceived prejudice, simply because they don't see eye-to-eye.

The latest kerfuffle: the school district's proposed boundary realignment plans. People all across the city are upset, but none are so divided as the people on ...

I knew this morning was going to be rough, even after the Ibuprofen. I couldn't make my average all morning. My muscles ache from all the work I've done in the home office over the past week. I accepted a bad day of bowling as a consequence.

But tonight was another story. I'd taken it easy this afternoon. Drove to the bowling alley and was nearly hit twice by people who thought it would be just fine and dandy to make a left turn while I was legally in the intersection. (That happened at lunch...

...but the whole organization project will probably slow down as I ramp up for a big meeting this weekend.

So, what have I done? I got the credenza entirely clean and moved a networked printer over there. I moved the multifunction machine taking up space on the shelving on my desk to the spot formerly occupied by the printer. I put some stuff in boxes and labeled the boxes so I can see what's in them at a glance. Moved furniture, dusted, vacuumed.

And I found some space on my desk!

Now I ache. ...

Slow progress is ... slow.

Today's job involved clearing off the credenza and rearranging a small portion of my desk.

The credenza took forever as I discovered some items had slipped down behind and the only way I could get them out was to move the massive piece of furniture. This required partially unloading it and bringing in the heavy duty dolly to move it a whopping two inches from the wall so I could reach down and retrieve the items. Then I had to put everything back.

Much more dusting ens...
