Paul Collins is a writer specializing in history, memoir, and unusual antiquarian literature. His seven books have been translated into ten languages, and include Sixpence House: Lost in a Town of Books (2003) and The Murder of the Century: The Gilded Age Crime that Scandalized a City and Sparked the Tabloid Wars (2011).

A frequent contributor to the "Histories" column of New Scientist magazine, Collins's other recent freelance work includes pieces for the New York Times and Slate.
