With Monster two months away from publication, I thought I'd repeat a blog post from a year ago about how I came about writing this book:

One day when I was walking around the long since defunct Brookline Barnes & Noble, I was noticing all the vampire, dragon, zombie, Wizard of Oz & werewolf books, and was thinking what hasn't been done, and what I came up with was Frankenstein. Yeah, I... read more »

I'm in this anthology, but I can still give this 5-stars with a clear conscience based solely on Paul Tremblay's story in the anthology. It's that good a story! There's some good stuff in the rest of the anthology, but it's Tremblay's story that make...more

The greatest crime novel period. There's a very good reason why Time Magazine named Red Harvest one of the 50 greatest novels of the 20th century. if you haven't read this, you need to!

Paul Tremblay's review of this book is so spot on that there's nothing I could add, so I'll leave my review as simply that this is a great book, one that has more honesty and truth to it than any 10 big fat commercial bestsellers combined.

Dave Larry,

Sorry to hear about your sister-in-law, and hope she's doing better.

Thanks for writing me about the book, and I'm glad you liked it. My next one, Pariah, will be out in the UK in Jan. and I think in the US in June, and that's the one I'm most excited about.

Larry Dave,

Finished it up last night, and would have written then, but I've spent the last 24 hours waiting in the hospital with a critically-ill sister-in-law.

Anyway, SMALL CRIMES is a fantastic book. I think the final scene, as Joe pulls the trigger that sends him on his dark flight to hell will stick with me a long time. There is a great deal to chew on, besides the great writing.

How soon can we expect another?

Dave Larry, thanks, the book so far has been generating a lot of good stuff, all very exciting. Hey, let me know what you think when you're done.

Best,
